Default Warforged Great Weapon Aptitude (Official)

For this week's enhancement preview, let's go to a new set of racial enhancements available to the Warforged. As revealed in last week's Kensai discussion, the Two Handed Fighting chain of feats now adds a chance of producing magical weapon effects on glancing blows. The Warforged Great Weapon Aptitude enhancement chain enhances that feat chain, and was given to the warforged to reflect their focus on combat abilities and favored class.

    Warforged Great Weapon Aptitude I
Prereqs: Level 2 Warforged, Two Handed Fighting
    Cost: 1 AP
Benefit: Glancing blows produced by your two handed weapon attacks have an increased chance of producing special weapon effects.

    Warforged Great Weapon Aptitude II
Prereqs: Level 8 Warforged, Improved Two Handed Fighting, Warforged Great Weapon Aptitude I
    Cost: 2 AP
Benefit: Glancing blows produced by your two handed weapon attacks have an increased chance of producing special weapon effects.

    Warforged Great Weapon Aptitude III
Prereqs: Level 14 Warforged, Greater Two Handed Fighting, Warforged Great Weapon Aptitude II
    Cost: 3 AP
Benefit: Glancing blows produced by your two handed weapon attacks have an increased chance of producing special weapon effects.

All of these stack with the "chance to produce effects" increases granted by the Two Handed Fighting chain, Kensai (specialized in two handed weapons), and Frenzied Berserker.

As usual, since this is a preview, details are still subject to change.

A very interesting way to translate a favored class. Will we see this with other races?

*edit* actually, I can see this on halflings and regular elves. Possibly dwarves as well. What about humans? What about drow?

Very nice and interesting especially if there was a piercing two handed weapon which you could get puncturing on it of course. I see this as a nice feature for killing mobs with dps (holy burst of pure good greataxe or something like that) or for vorpaling a bunch of mobs. WF thf could be the vorpal specialists. I am curious if there will be more special effects on weapons then are in the game currently when the cap hits 20 or if special effects will be made available to other weapon types (example a special greatsword with puncturing on it)?

One interesting possibility is a wf barbarian with a radiance weapon who runs around with a bunch of rogues.

    Thumbs up

After the Kensai preview, and now this... I'm one very excited melee-ist.

Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with swords."

My Warforge wields a pair of Basterd Swords. I think this would fit in well for extension of that Exotic feat. Please give us a reason to wield such weapons, as well. Perhaps apply to THF (and/)or Exotic: Basterd Sword.

So if one was forged, had the two handed fighting chain, and was Kensai or Frenzied Berserker....one might see the glancing blows as often as one sees a critical hit, slightly more often, less often, or much more often (as a vague indication of how they all interact)?

Devs, could we please get numbers here and in the Kensai line for the special effects proc rate?

I understand the numbers would not be set in stone, but around 2% or about 1.5% or we're thinking 3% at 2nd tier or something to that effect.

I/we would understnad the numbers are not set, but it would be nice to have an idea.

    Thanks.

I've interpreted it to be like Warforged power attack. Meaning that Warforged are able to apply combat techniques to classes that normally wouldn't get these benefits, and when they do get them, they stack.

About the enhancement line it's self?

    Great googley moogely!

Warforged are going to be able to put a lot of damage out there.

Oh! Oh! One other thing, what's the big news for tomorrow?

I know you can't leave a 4 day weekend without something worthy of 4 days of discussion?

    An idea?

    Something?

My S&B BS wielder (big character, big weapon) would like to see it, too. Still, good stuff to look forward to any way you slice it

I hope this is it and Eladrin and the rest of devs get some time with the family for Thanksgiving.

Could we have percentages? Please? That sounds cool, but is very vague.

I just hope it won't turn into a "If you are not a WF THF, you are a gimp" though. Scared it pigeonholes the race...

How about addressing the attack speed of the Greatsword since it's the WF's THF weapon of choice?
