In this old thread: http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=282557, P Nellesen talks about creating a half-elf cleric with fighter dilettante to give himself (herself?) a melee cleric that isn't a full on battle cleric.
I created a 7th level helf cleric for Mabar (used the burst to farm motes) and she's been languishing since. When I created her I gave her fighter dilettante so she could swing Carnifex. I have a main cleric I want to TR in the near future. But I don't want to be out of the raid healing loop. It occurred to me I could dust off Little Miss Mabar and level/flag her.
So here are some constraints:
1) She has flaky stat scores:
Str 13
Dex 8
Con 12
Int 10
Wis 18
Cha 13
Alignment: True Neutral
Feats
1-Extend (+ Fighter Dilettante)
3-Toughness
6-Empower Healing
These stats were chosen because I didn't know what future dilly feat I wanted and so I wanted to leave myself open to the most possible choices. Unless I loot one, she's *not* getting a lesser heart to respec. Any level-ups so far would have gone to wisdom. I didn't check where I spent her skill points but they're probably going to balance and concentration.
2) She's going to have substandard gear (basically the leftovers my main evoker cleric doesn't want). She has read exactly 1 tome so far (Charisma +1) and banked two +3 upgrade tomes (Wis/Cha) with no +2's in sight. Right now she's using Carnifex, a flametouched iron mace with ghost touch/undead bane for skellie bashing, or a small selection of the Nicked weapons from Sharn Syndicate (Nicked Greatsword, Nicked Longsword, Nicked Mace). When using a 1h weapon she has a Greater Stability shield or Wrath of Siberys (for the blinding). Her eventual boss beater will probably be an AGA (Metalline + good + force is fairly universal) or failing that a Min2 greensteel falchion.
3) She's going to be a raid healer that will swing at bosses. Her offensive spell usage will be the bare minimum to get through flagging (mostly blade barrier) as she'll be saving her spell points for buffing and heals.
I was considering something like this for her future feats:
Feats
1-Power Attack ( + Fighter Dilettante)
3-Toughness
6-Empower Healing
9-Maximize
12-Quicken
15-?
18-?
21-Mental Toughness
24-Improved Mental Toughness
For 15 and 18, it could either be something useful for melee (Cleave/GCleave?) or something that makes heals better/easier (extra turning for more bursts, etc). The mental toughnesses are because I've run one cleric through and found first lifers are in desperate need of spell points, even with full sp-boosting gear (Archmagi, greensteel sp, etc) which I won't even have to start. Since she's not going to even pretend to be an evoker I don't *need* Spell Focus or Spell Pen.
I realize her hp are low - not much to do about that except craft some decent gear as she levels (and throw on any Con tomes I get).
Any suggestions on how to make her a better melee in ways that won't cost her healing potency would be appreciated, as long as she stays pure cleric. In particular, I'm wondering if/when I should be putting level-up points in strength instead of wisdom, or what feats to take to finish out the list.
Edit: Not sure if it'll be useful at higher levels, but I'm putting my dilly enhancements into Trip. This might be helpful for considering feats.
