Default Halfling dragonmark newbie build help/request

    Hi all,

I'm a new player looking for help with a build.
After a bit of experimenting I think I've narrowed down what I want.

    -28 point build to start
    -All 3 healing dragon marks
    -Enhancements to dragon marks
    -Most likely dual wield
-Not going to unlock monk yet
    - goal: be able to self heal a lot and solo for a while to get the hang of ddo

    After that I'm torn.
My first thought is a fighter (with combat finesse?) With khopesh for crits/kensai
    -the bonus feats look helpful
    I could easily go rogue
-id like to be self sufficient so traps and locks would help
Paladin looks very solo friendly but possibly crippled by the 28pt - probably better for a 2nd or 3rd

I've tried to use the downloadable character Gen but knowing which feat to take when and why along with base stat allocation has left me lost.

So any suggestions? Any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated

Have a look at my Jorasco Medics, specifically the rgr version: TWF (plus some ranged DPS), full ranks in UMD, Evasion, Devotion II + Max + Emp to boost the DMs, d6+12 sneak atk, and only needs a +1 DEX tome by lvl 12 to make it all work. Only drawback is you don't get Evasion + full UMD until lvl 20 unless you take a +2 INT tome; otherwise you don't have enough skill pts. I didn't spec her for trapping, but you could shift some pts on rgr lvls into Open Lock.

I had a hell of a lot of fun with my Halfling Acrobat.
Not dual wielding - just tossing that out there.

Been trying to come up with a Halfling Fighter with full marks as well.

I've got one too and would've pointed it out except OP said:

Which rules out the Quad H or any other monk-based build, unfortunately.

I put together the following. The Feats seem ok. Then Enhancements seem to line up.
My major concern is that I'm not optimizing and getting things later than I should. (Barely Kensai III at 20, Cant use a Khopesh till 8).

    Any feedback would be great!

The problem with pure fighter is you can't take any metamagics nor enhs to boost the healing output of your DMs; and since you get a limited number of uses per shrine, I feel it's better to get more oomph from them by mixing with rgr or pally.

You will want metamagics for your dragonmarks. I have a 12 fighter/7 monk/ 1 wiz dragonmark build and the healing is respectable for when I made the build. without the metamagics the healing would be ineffective.

An 18 ranger/2 fighter would work easily for you. You can save some build points on dex this way and keep a higher str and con.

Dont go combat finesse.(Its a trap) It will take you even longer to kill things mid to high level and you self healing will run out.

For soloing to figure it out. Dont do it for to long just join a group and say your new and make friends. You will have more fun playing that way.

You will have a much easier time being a cookie cutter melee and using a hireling.

Regarding traps, while soloing traps are not very scary.

A paladin is not crippled by being 28 points and having no tomes.
-Divine Might is not very good. Very high base CHA therefore not relevant to viability.
-Starting with 14 Str is not the end of the world.
-Splitting level-ups is also not the end of the world.
14 Str 16 Dex 14 Con 12 Wis 10 Cha on a human, if you can't acquire a +1 Dex tome by level 8, put a level-up in Dex then, otherwise all in Str. What does a 36 point build get you over this set-up? Surely you would start with 16 Str (4 points). Perhaps another 4 in Cha? So you're at +1 damage and +2 saves... that's it. There is no possible case where that is the difference between a good character and a bad character. The impact of higher build points is very grossly overstated, even on MAD builds.

    .

With all that said, I encourage you to run the build you've got but bring a hireling. See for yourself how infrequently you resort to using your dragonmarks while soloing. Get in a few traditional groups, see how you never use your marks. Get in a few BYOH groups, see how quickly you exhaust your marks. They just don't stack up. It's all well and good for me to proclaim this, I'm just some person, when you see it for yourself it will be much more convincing.
