    Default Help FVS Please

    Hi all!,

Fairly new to the world of DDO. I played it during first release but didn't quite connect with it. Doing it second time round and enjoying the game a lot more.

I would like to ask for FVS solo build - mainly due to time constraints (being on call and working 40 hour week). I won't be doing much raiding (most likely none for the foreseeable future). But for end game I would like to perhaps farm so I can afford gear for the toon and/or alts.

I have access to the 32 point build but keep in mind that I am new and have no means for tomes/gear to twink the character. But I am VIP so that I have access to all quests.

I have read the threads made by Impaqt and Gratch as well as the thread FVS Research. However due to many choices, it's kinda difficult to decide which one would be ideal for a complete novice. I understand the different types such as evoker, melee, king of blades build but I do not know which would suit me so that I can learn the game. I'm asking the community as I know the DDO community is very friendly.

Also would it be possible to describe the playstyle within each level i.e. level 1 use melee only and not rely on spell.

I am currently playing on Thelanis, so if anyone is kind enough to mentor me then that's an added bonus.

    Many thanks and happy gaming

If you plan on soloing and just returned to the game I recommend using this build http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=318443 "False Hope" or http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=268346 "Soul Survivor". They both work fine with or without tomes and high-end gear. I recommend melee based on the idea caster FVS are challenging to play until level 12 and potentially frustration levels become unbearable.

If multiclassing is your style then I suggest starting with one of the 18/2 FVS/monk or FVS/fighter combinations listed here http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...10#post4420310. I am part of the crowd who does not like to split class the FVS so I apologize for no recommendations.

If you're looking for a guide on where to level and how to play I suggest you start here http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=263354. MrCow does a nice job on his "Diaries" posts. You may not be a reincarnate but it's still a good source of information.

Many changes continue to occur in DDO so IMHO no build posted on the forums will be 100% the best all the time. They all need tweaks to gear, feats, enhancements or other facets. I suggest you pick a build, follow MrCow's guide, and make changes that suite your playstyle.

Hopefully this helps. I play Thelanis as well so if you happen to be on send me a tell and I will be happy to assist. The characters I am playing the most right now are Fuhao and Wallyj.

Hey Chub, I thought I would respond because we have a bit in common. I’ve been playing DDO for about 4 months and really enjoying it over time. I started VIP and purchases FvS and half-elf; I always seems to play half-elves when I played PnP. I also have 32 point builds. I am using the paladin Dilettante feat because I like the saving throw bonuses.

I’m about to turn level 12 and since this is my first character over level 5 I don’t know how to compare to other classes. I will say that I overall I have felt that I’m not great at anything, other than surviving (in most cases). I miss my targets far too often, I can’t really use too much SP for consistent damage and of course I can’t trap. I started off board and sword, but I was doing very little damage. At the time I had the fighter dilettante and started using a greatsword. I found I was progressing better. Now I’m trying TWF with longswords and am doing ok.

So, damage output is not great, but I can heal…. Thus survive. I should also add that I solo a lot and have been able to epic many quests as long as they are below my level. I recently purchased the +4 tomes, but I don’t have the +3s yet; I’m waiting to see it they go on sale soon.

Honestly, I like playing melee more. Since I’m close to 12 I am pressing forward. What I need to decide is if I plan on playing more melee or going more caster (evoker). I’m thinking of switching to quarterstaff soon, because I can use them (simple weapons) two-handed (I have some higher strength) and many of the weapon abilities help casting. I have also thought about going with either 2 monks or 2 fighters, but I want to see what all the rave about BB is before I drastically make changes. At this point I’m thinking I might just move to 20 and TR into 18/2 FvS/M on the next life.

Yes, I see most of that above is me just rambling, but maybe in some way you can find something in there helpful.

    Hi!,

Thank you both for you replies so soon.

I have added your in game chars in Thelanis Fuhao and Wallyj! that's great so thank you Zenny.

Kylric, thank you for your post. This is exactly the dilemna that I find at present. I do have an FVS which I'm trying to play to see the playstyle. The build I think is the Lord of Blades one. So far what you've said is quite true, however let me know when you hit the level of BB and please tell me what it is like.

I do believe that we can't really summarise the class until level 20/cap so I will try and keep going.

Many thanks again to you both.

Today was about watching football :0

Anyways, if anyone else is reading this thread, I have a question. At level 11, or so, is there anything I should be farming as a level 11 or so FvS?
