    Default Auction House /facepalm

I've been periodically checking the AH for new scrolls to inscribe. I TR'ed recently and my inner OCD makes it so I have to have every spell out there (whether I'll actually use the spell or not is of no importance).

Anyway. Every now and then I'll see a scroll that is totally overpriced. For example, I often saw Death Aura on the AH for a 60k buyout. Lolwut? I usually just close the AH window and check again some other time, but...this next one made me laugh out loud:

Has anyone else witnessed similar AH stupidity gems? If so, plz do share

As a regular trader (up to 50 auctions running 24/7) you get stuff like this literally all the time. Rare scrolls are down to 1-15k and are much dependent on whether there are more than 1 offer, and if there's a mage in desperate search for it and how much he's willing to pay. Trap the soul - this spell was inflationary often offered in recent times and you were lucky to sell for base price. Wait a day or two and you'll see 6 offered, cheapest 2k.

But this actually has nothing to do with all this, this is just an offer not to be taken seriously. I mean ok in the range of 50k some really desperate guy would probably still buy it but 900k is just something which is either a joke or the guy doesn't know sh*t about pricing, but well, looks like he could at least use the search function and check if there are offerings already. Many people can't even do that and that's why you always see prices for ordinary items either too expensive by the factor 100 or, which is delightful, at a buyout price much too cheap. That's also where you should focus your attention to

Most likely it's the Temp Storage. Sometimes for TRing you have to stash things here and there, you can't TR with stuff still in your TR bank :P I would pay some good money to leave the TR bank how it is but allow each life to roll it over.

Funds transfer doesn't seem reasonable because AH takes a huge cut on the transaction.

About auctioning pricing, how do you know what a good price to sell an item for?

I mostly just do base value but some stuffs base value is clearly below the rate it can for on the auction house. Is there any advice on how to price things att the AH?

If you have something somewhat unique, do a quick search on the AH for some comparable pricing. IF you do not find anything, hold on a few days and try again (or if you have characters on all worlds, pop over to another one and check there).

With the SEARCH function it is pretty easy to find items now. Also you need to think not only about the item properties but the slot if fills and what it will compete with in those level ranges. Mid level helms need to be outstanding to get much action since they compete with Minos or crafted items.

The easiest way to score serious bucks is with seasonal rare/desired collectibles. For example Gold Coin Stacks from FESTIVAL sell easy and can net some serious plat, if you do not want to play the special item roulette and cookie routine. During Mabar, Lich Dust would move pretty quick as would stacks of motes at decent price points. In those cases you are selling time essentially to someone who does not have it or choose to spend it in that event. Again use the Search function to compare current prices of the day. ONE important thing about items like this. PUT A BUYOUT! anyone who wants this stuff generally wants it NOW!, not in a few days (or even after the event closes) as some auctions end up.

IF you want to be sure to move the items, price them lower than the lowest price on the board at that time, unless they are below list price. I am able to routinely sell gear for far more than list price on items that will be attractive. You find a +1 Thundering Mace of Shattermantle, just broker it. You find a Flaming Dwarven Axe of PG, take that to the AH and net some plat.

    This was my first thought.

My second thought was more eccentric. Perhaps the auction house is just being used, in posts on Junk Scroll A, as a way to publicize a bid for an underlying item of extreme value. And the response (sell-side) bid is posted in the auction house,in the form of an outlandish bid for some equally worthless scroll, Junk Scroll B, to signify sell-side interest in the same underlying item of extreme value. Through these bids, persons would create a more transparent marketplace where all would know of the depth of the order book. As ascending bids on A and descending bids on B appear, market participants obtain the kind of information you'd want for an item of extreme value. Including market depth and some cursory measure of liquidity. To let the market determine its price. I know it would never be worth the work, and wow in terms of teamwork can't even get people to let ya shrine before part 5 of shroud in this tough town, but theoretically the auction house could thus be used to signal buy and sell negotiations.

I know, I know, what did they put in my eggnog....

    Hi,

Is the AH purged sometimes, like when there's a server crash or restart?

I don't remember the exact circumstances, but after some downtimes when I've logged on, everything I had on the AH beforehand was purchased and I got the money in the mail.

Anyone else experienced something like this? Or am I living in a dream-world? If this does occur while you have a few junk items up for ludicrous prices, you might just strike it rich, which might just explain that crazy scroll price.

    Thanks.

My guess is Temporary Storage, but I have in the past stuck an item in the AH at a ridiculous price and another exact same item at a much lower price (but still higher than it should sell for). That way you convince people that your second item is nicely priced- works well on Epic Scrolls and stuff like +3 True Hearts... people do play this game drunk lol

    This.

    Also:

5: Some folks accidentally type one more zero than intended.

That explains Power Word: Kill scrolls at 200k PP as historically that scroll has been around 20k PP on Khyber.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

I have made LARGE sums that way.

Works best with somewhat rare items that are bound on equip or used up like Adamantine Ore.

sorry but every online game has the ah filled with ********, imho

just check things like combustion+fire lore, devotion+healing lore, tome pages, shield fragments, shroud ings (simply LOL)

like i said, mostly ********, dunno why they want that plat for, but everyone i know that puts overpriced things in the ah is the same that buys overpriced things in the ah, quite hilarious lol

    Hehehehe...

Crafted items that sell and that you mass produce are another example.

I think I have Greater Necromancy Focus rings at prices ranging from 80k (a modest markup, mat costs are ~35k IIRC so that's a 21k markup) to 250k right now.

Ditto for ML9 spell damage amplification rings. Radiance, Combustion, Devotion, Impulse, Glaciation, etc.
