I was playing Neverwinter Nights 2, specifically the SoZ expansion. In that expansion they have what's called history feats. For instance if you send an undead army to fight the Luscans you get a history feat that increases your character's attack vs undead by 2. I started thinking about this game and what history feats they have here. I thought of the feat that adds 10 hitpoints if you do the quests in GH and Reaver's Refuge. I also thought about feats that come from past lives. And I think there's one that your character gets if he maxes out coin lord favor.
I thought to myself that I really like the idea of my character getting bonus feats from doing hard things in game. I often play a game called Star Trek Online. They have history feats, though they don't call them feats. For instance if you kill a lot of borg ships you eventually get a feat that increases the damage you do vs borg ships by 2%. Instead of calling it a feat they call it an achievement. Lots of games have achievements, from World of Warcraft to every game on the Xbox 360.
What if DDO had an achievement system and what if some of the achievements granted bonus feats? For instance there could be one where if you receive over time 1,000,000 points of damage from every element you get a feat that grants 5 or 10 points of stacking resistance to every element. Or maybe if a rogue kills enough enemies with crafted grenades or mines he can get a bonus to their damage or dcs. Speaking of rogues and artis since I like them best (take that barbarians!), maybe if they disarm enough traps they get bonus trap parts.
There could be some feats in the ddo store. Like there could be one called Fire Feet that causes the character to leave fiery footprints as they walk, and maybe it could grant the ability to walk on lava when toggled. Or one where you can shape change into an ogre and ogres won't be hostile toward you and they might even say funny puns like, "Yesterday I ate a halfling and it wasn't half bad."
So what do you guys think of this idea? Bien? Malo? Muy loco?
