Congrats on a positive life-choice. Quitting smoking was a pain, go luck on that.

My mother, a multi-pack smoker since she was a teen, stopped cold turkey the day my first daughter was born. Now 24 years later, she admits there are still days when the craving hits.

Nice Andy! By far one of your best achievements, and many more to come!

Turned 20 three days after you, but no good resolutions :/ Just the promise I'd go visit New Zealand next year.

    Max grats.
That is the choice I would make if I could, but I know I would be back to smoking again as usual.
It's been one and a half year since I quit. Not a single smoke since then so I know how hard it is.
Kudos to you, and wish you the best in your endeavour.

I smoked for about 20 years until I quit a little over 13 months ago. For me, I was able to use the patch to help deal with the physical stuff while I worked on the mental and habitual addictions of smoking, which for me at least was the roadblock that led me to fail in the past. It takes willpower! You can do it. You'll be glad you did, although it's hard to see that when you first start the addiction removal process. Good luck!

    Thanks all

I m only using willpower, the idea came recently when I travelled to the States in Novemeber, I had an awfully long flight, at the time when Sandy was around. So my flight was around 24hours long, and I never had the chance to have a cig.

So what I do when I really feel like having a smoke is pretend I m on a flight and it s prohibited to smoke, and I keep to the rules Funnily I have cigarettes at home, but dont even think about them.

The hard part is when I go out drinking with buddies... (which is like twice a week) well thats the only time I allow myself to have a smoke, which is ok for my set rules, as long as I keep it to an absolute minimum.

I ve been smoking for the last 24 years, so yeah quite awhile now. I thought minimising would be harder than it is.

Moral of the story, your willpower is stronger then you might imagine

Smoked pack a day for about 15 years or so but when my wife got pregnant I told her no more smoking and she told me I had to stop smoking in the house and I agreed. Smoking outside on the porch when it's -35 outside and there's a snowstorm really helps motivate you to chuck the habit lol.

What really helped me though is I stopped drinking for about 1 year, a drink and a ciggy go hand in hand so if you stop both it helps.

Now years later I can't stand the smell of smoke on others, not because it makes me want to smoke but because the smell is repugnant.

I didn't use patchs and stuff like that, trick is to keep your hands busy...now that came out funny lol

anyways, good job so far, but true accomplishment comes from stopping completely and being able to resist going back into it

Grats man. For 15 years I smoked a pack a day and on my 30th bday, I tossed em and never looked back. You can do it.

Grats. For myself, I just started smoking halves to throttle down without as many withdrawal symptoms, so I definitely know what a pain it was to get to that point.

Great job! I've been trying the same thing with food, and in the last two years I have lost 30 pounds. I hit a lifetime high of 225 in 2011 and now I am at 195 (on a person 5 ft 7 inches that is still a bit heavy since its not muscle).

I've found the key is goals. I have plans in 2013 to do some run events and maybe an obstacle course and drop down only 10 lbs that year. Its getting harder to lose actual weight now that I am below 200, so I am changing my focus to fitness and inches.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.
