So far I go by the Three Rules of Looting:
1) My loot is my loot
2) Your loot is my loot
3) Everyone else's loot is my loot
Sadly, the last two points don't work too well. I need a better PR department, I suppose.

DDO: If a problem cannot be solved by the application of DPS, you're not applying enough.
I was in a HoX group over a year ago and a cleric rolled on the wraps saying that they were going to be a monk on their next life. Well a year later and they are still a cleric. I wasn't offended at all by them rolling on the wraps even though I was on a monk and was second highest roll. I was slightly upset that they ended up being "trophy" loot instead of actually being used, but karma hit pretty quick with the nightmares nerf anyway so I wouldn't have used them for more than a month or so if I had won.
It's hearing stories like this that probably makes people upset by players rolling for future lives. Many people will probably get great use out of raid loot even if their current toon can't use it, but some just want to roll for the sake of rolling and are looking for an excuse that doesn't seem greedy.

No...
But I wouldn't.
Maybe wait to see who else wants it first. (but of course you can't too long.)
Or if you win, take a moment to look at who else rolled for it.. and was second.
Let's say it is clearly a cleric item. And you roll and win. But a Cleric also rolled and was second.
I would consider giving it him instead.
Your time will come.
But I only roll on things that I plan to use immediately. And know I will actually equip and use often.
It is different if I open the chest and it is in my name.
If it is in my name, and I want it... even just a little. I usually take it.
(now... before TRing I usualy did not take items I would rarely use)
But, for named raid loot, I do usually wait a moment to see what others say before I take certain items.
The basic idea is: do I really plan to use it?
Is it an item that some other guy really, really wants?
Do I care?
I understand that some items are really sought after by certain classes.
So I judge how much I actually want it and how often I think I would use it.
I see the character walking around from time to time. I don't go out of my way to keep tabs on them. As mentioned, the loot is obsolete now, but at the time it was something most monks were drooling for. At that moment I was happy the other player would be making use of it after they TR. I was unhappy that they misrepresented themselves in order to acquire the gear. That was my issue, not that they rolled on it as a cleric. As I'm not fond of people rolling for trophy loot, I noted the name mentally as someone I'd prefer not to raid with and went about business as usual.

Yeah, I loved my Bracers of the Glacier on my deep splash bard / barb life and my melee bard life. And the fireshield proc is pretty nice, even without a blue bar. Plus my pally enjoyed the Demon Consort bracers for a long time, the neg level proc was rarely an issue plus restores were trivial. Could see them being nice on a melee FvS too.
All sorts of builds can make use of all sorts of stuff. I just want to see a coherent plan rather than a Beavis and Butthead laugh and "gotta catch them all" as a rationale (yes this has happened to me in a raid).
Terebinthia, Terebynthia, Tereana, Tereaina, Tereanna, Terebyte, Terechan, Terebinthis
The Hand of the Black Tower, Khyber.
Cupcakes welcomed.
As others have said No its not wrong if no roll stipulations were given.
Also as others have said your loot is your loot so if I see a fellow guildie in the group I will ask them if there is anything they are looking for and if its drops for me then I will pass it to them, apart from that must stuff I get these days is up for roll on D95 as realy all the old content epic gear is rather worthless now to me.
It would also like to say that if you untick the loot from party chat you will be able to see if I have put something up for roll as I have had numerious occasions where people have not seen it due to loot scrolling the party channel up so they do not see my offer.
No, if the person who has the loot doesn't mind giving it to you, why should you care? After all you have every intention of using said item.
