Default Not a PSA: What are BBs?

In a recent PSA thread started by a guildie about bringing your best contribution to raids, I posted:

Not having DR-breakers showed one did not know a basic basic aspect of the game or didn't really care about anyone else's time, just wanted a completion. I remember there were many irate (sometime EXTREMELY UPSET) melees who'd be rejected from shroud because they did not have DR-breakers; their argument was "I WILL NOT GET DR-BREAKERS UNTIL I'M CARRIED THROUGH ~20 SHROUDS SO I CAN MAKE MY MIN2!" Sure buddy. In a world where only you matter. In a world where only your time and your goals matter.

Anyone else experiencing déjÃ* vu? It's the same argument. The same over-reactions.
And the fourth thread I ever posted on the DDO forums back in 2010 was "What are BBs?"

In a PuG elite ToD that I joined.

    Code:
(Party:): [To Party] everyone's here except for *****
(Guild:): [Guild] Kobeyashi: didn't it fill 15 min ago?
(Guild:): [To Guild] *****'s holding the whole group up
    (Party:): [Party] *****: switching destinies
    ... zzz...
    ... pt1...
    (Party:): [Party] *****: silver pls.
    ... pt2...
    (Party:): [Party] *****: silver pls.
    ... pt3...
    (Party:): [Party] *****: silver pls.
(Party:): Your party member, *****, has died.
    (Party:): [Party] *****: silver pls.
(Party:): [Party] *****: and in bard destiny. :P

    (Standard): ***** added.
Held everyone up to swap to an "off" ED, required constant attention + artie buffs, died in pt3 then gleefully announced that he was in an "off" ED. This is not a PSA. I don't expect anything to change. Just some random thoughts of the day.

TL;DR: Pretty much the same thing I say in every post - Play your best and you will see more of the game.

just imagine how much less of my time you'd be wasting if you respec'd to THF and crafted the same combo on a two hander...

dang. i sure as heck wouldn't leave a full group waiting for me for 15 minutes. i've been known to bypass ship buffs (or only hit the top level stuff... the resists in our case) and run straight to quest if i was the last one in the group so no one had to wait on me. for an ELITE tod, i might take the extra MINUTE to hit everything so i can be at the top of my game (cuz really that's all it should take to grab all your buffs if you aren't farting around).

as for BBs... i have them, they just aren't always the most ideal. on my rogue/monk i can chose between my devout handwraps, or my holy of greater evil outsider bane wraps that i looted. if there's an arti in the party, you better believe that i will be asking (NICELY...no silver plz from me) for a silver buff. if no arti, or he/she just doesn't cast it (as i've had happen before) i have a passable backup.

I know who it is also. I was the Artie in that group.

It was very irritating waiting for that person to get to the quest. He wasn't the last to join (three others joined after) and had more than five minutes to buff before the group filled.

The worst part about the wait was that the person was constantly typing in chat. Probably could have saved five minutes there.

Did you ask him to hurry up? Even once?

When you saw his HP and behavior, did you ask if he had BB's? If he said he would need artie buffs to break DR, would you have explained whether or not the artie would provide them?

On cannith the usual approach is to go pull the lever and annouce it over party chat. It's really good at keeping people who want the party to wait for their ship buffs and fatespinner shenanigans.

We will let you pike, but we won't let you waste everyone's time.

That's the other side of the "play the way YOU want" mentality, wich I'm all for... As long as you don't impose your lack of DR breakers, proper build, common sense on a raid or a group doing challenging content.

You don't NEED to bring a DR breaker for ToD, after all, your lack of dps only puts further strain on the healers and arcanes - hell, you're not the one who's gonna have to chug sp pots to get through the raid, right?

You don't NEED to heal the barbarian while running your FvS, I mean you're showing that ***** Velah what time it is with those whopping 200 crits!

You don't NEED to be in an optimal destiny for a raid, c'mon there's 11 other people there to compensate for you piking for an extra 10k xp towards that next twist.

    /sarcasm off

It was a party I joined, not a party I hosted. I generally assume other players will be sane, considerate, and at least of average intelligence. Despite some hyperbole about PuGs on the forums, I'm usually right. I usually try to be helpful and not only suggest strategies but also explain the reason behind the strategy. I also try to listen to other players. Some people might find that boring, but there are other players who want to see as much of the game as possible. There's a balance where you must ask certain basic questions and give basic advice, but you have to respect and trust other players' decisions. You can't ask every possible question or make a laundry list of every possible requirement in the LFM.

However, sometimes I meet people who are insane, inconsiderate, or stupid. People have a right to play this game how they want. I respect that. I also have a right to play the game how I want, and I choose to ignore and avoid as many of the insane, inconsiderate, or stupid people I have the misfortune of meeting. They're in the distinct minority anyway. None of them are forced to play with me, and I shouldn't be forced to play with them.

How does a DR-breaking ESoS (e.g. good slotted, silver buffed) compare to a +5 Holy Burst Silver Greataxe of GEOB? If it's behind, is the investion to craft a LoB/Demon/Devil beater seperately justified?

A guildie did some math to compare 2 handers on different toons and with different destinies not long ago. Crafted Great Axe landed on the bottom of the list for almost every build + destiny combo.
