An interesting idea, but your general premise needs some work. Here are a couple cbits of constructive critisism that first come to mind:

    • A "newbie' build shouldn't be overly complicated, shouldn't include P2P classes/races (like monk), or expensive items (like tomes) to function. I can't say I'd recommend a build like this to a new player for just these reasons.

    • Your stats are all over the place. You seem to be trying to get a decent amount of every single stat except charisma, which will only end up mediocre in all stats, with a taxing amount of gear devoted to stats. This is not very friendly for a 28 point build (or even a 32 point build!). Infact, you end up with Dex being your highest stat, when it is arguably the least useful!

    • I'm not sure what the point of having 6 rogue in here is. Going with 12 monk gets you ninja spy 2, which gives you 2d6 sneak attack (Net loss of 1d6 sneak attack + whatever enhancements), but also nets you a lot more Monk goodies which more than make up for it, including increase in monk fist damage which more or less cancels out the sneak attack loss. You could even go 12 monk/1 rogue/6 ranger, with 1 level of wiggle room for whichever class, and keep the trapskills if that is your aim.

    • You invest in Zen Archery and 10k stars, on a character that I assume is not ranged focused. Although you get some freebies from Ranger to make using bows occasionally useful, ranged combat will always perform poorly unless FULLY specced for it. You'll be better than a melee monk at killing enemies you can't get into melee range with, but a devoted archer or any caster will take out those enemies 10x faster. And since so much of your damage is tied up in sneak attacks, melee will give you much better overall damage output.

    • On a positive note, you do hit all the major checkboxes: Starting con no less than 14, major feats (Toughness, Improved Crit, GTWF). I would argue that on a sneak attack focused character, precision would be a better choice than power attack, especially for one who plans to use a bow with any frequency, but both are good choices. The feat basics are solid here.

    • Whirlwind attack is not really all that good. Certainly not worth four feat prereq. While dodge - > mobility -> spring attack are necessary for tempest I, combat expertise is a clear waste of a feat (and starting int points) just to get Whirlwind Attack. For that same two feat cost, you could get Cleave and Great Cleave, giving you two feats to cycle between for hitting multiple melee attackers.

All in all, I don't think this build would perform particularly well. It spreads itself too thin, needing so many stats, waffling between melee and ranged, picking up several unnecessary levels of rogue, with no clear role or purpose. It is certianly not viable for a new/free player.

My rating: C- Could be played and perform medium well, but wouldn't be particularly good. Minus points for missing its original intention (newbie build)

well... to just think is not exactly the same to play... certainly most assumptions are coming out of your theoretical brain and less playing brain...
but anyways i do like the feedback...

the main goal of this build is to survive as a melee without having to use much amount of resources...
and certainly.. dex it self is hardly ever going to get as much buffs as compared to strength....
There is numerous of strength items that can raise your str..... there are very few of other items that can raise your dex...

2 main reasons i built this build is
A: when your fighting and your needing a heal- then you run *cast scroll heal* range for a bit- then head back to fighting...
B: It has a burst effect

but this build is relent on both ranged and melee - similar to like a druid that has no high or low
its a mediocre build that gets all you need

Just remember thinking a build is not quite the same as playing the build...

I reply so that people can actually try the build and not go based off an assumption
