Stuck in Inner Splinterskull Fortress

How do I get across the river in the Inner Splinterkull Fortress to drop down the bridge? i've tried going into the river but one gate is blocked and on the other one it says I can't open it and that it needs the strength of a giant or something? Please any advice ?

There's a lever you need to shoot with a ranged weapon, if you don't have one there's a barrel that drops a bow and some arrows.

The lever can be triggered with a ranged weapon, which is why there is a chest with a crappy bow and some arrows in it. These kind of levers are in a handful of other quests as well.

It's a good idea to always carry a ranged weapon for situations like this as you will run into a few of them in different quests.

Ceiling lever in Shadow Knight, Skeletons in Rest for the Restless, levers in Legend of Two-Toed Tobias, etc, just to name a few.

I highly recommend buying a cheap returning throwing weapon from the AH.
Also, keep a stack of masterwork arrows slotted as they seem to be destroyed first (not guaranteed mind you but often enough to be worth it, YMMV).
