    I think it might be the first pure monkcher build O: anyways, tryied it out, with spider-spun caparison, pally ED, and easy to gethttp://ddowiki.com/page/Epic_Elemental_Longbow_of_Earth_(Level_20)_(Tier_3 ) and maybe sun-soul (wind) REALLY good build with only 10 seconds which you can switch to handwraps of major dpsing. imbue arrows with WHATEVER. their +5 returning AA arrows and its fun to use +20 attack boost with attack boost from versatility III. stand against the tide, as it benefits us GREATLY! may want to twist into sense weakness/haste boost for ultimate awesomeness when having kukan-do/manyshot:10k stars on. gear is pretty easy to get, just faram challenges with expiernced party/solo and deal and demon easy to get robes. level up to 25 fast so you can farm ED and get all up to TIER 6!!! may wanna spend 3rd twist into grandmaster of flowers wind thingy or shiradi champion something.

    I'm unsure if you're after comments or not, but here are some thoughts anyway -

    1) Feats:
    I assume your epic feat at level 21 is going to be Improved Martial Arts for the +0.5 W on bow damage.

    This gives you the epic feat at 24 still to play with.

    To my mind, all of Improved Precise Shot, Manyshot and Bow Strength are critical to making an archer viable.

    Given that, I'd take one of them at 24, and swap out Precision and Rapid Reload for the other two.

    I know Precision is your pre-req feat for Shintao which brings me to...

    2) Enhancements:

    Shintao is nice, but I don't think you'll see much benefit from it since your melee will be god-awful anyway with no TWF line (which is fine for a pure archer Monk). The stuns would be occasionally useful, but I think you'll get much more benefit from the 2d6 Sneak Attack + Incorporeal that Ninja Spy gives, as well as the feat slot you can free up (by dropping Precision and Stunning Fist).

    I'd also drop Con to 14, and put Wis up to 16, and go with Grandmaster of Oceans (rather than Storms) for the Passive Ki regen bonus and +4 Wisdom to allow you to keep Ten Thousand Stars pumping out arrows when Manyshot is down.


    2) Spell points:
    Are you packing enough Sorc and Favored Soul Past Lives such that you have the Spell Points (50) to cast Imbue Slaying Arrows?

    Or do SP granting items work on characters with a blue bar solely from Past Lives now? (This is totally possibly true; I haven't checked.)

    3) HP:
    Are you packing enough Barb Past Lives such that you can get away with skipping toughness? If you do decide you want toughness - which I probably would on this build - as stated above, I'd ditch Stunning Fist to make room.

    4) Where are your level-up stat points going?
    I honestly just can't tell due to the tome additions, etc. I'd recommend Wisdom (for more arrows during Ten Thousand Stars), but can see why someone might go Strength. I wouldn't put them in Dex.


    The Pure 20 Monk Archer is a cool concept though. I'm unsure how it'd play out, but it might be awesome.

    First glaring issue I see , you are not proficient in bows (unless zen archery grants proficiency but last I checked it didn't)

    Second is rapid reload , only works with crossbows

    Last is you take zen archery then load up on Dex?
    Since you aren't taking IPS I see no reason to do so. Enough dex for precise shot and rest In to wisdom.

    Good spot. I'd re-organize the OP again such that you take Proficiency in Longbow instead of what I'd assumed would be "Improved Martial Arts".

    It's not as easy as just swapping some out for others due to BAB, Pre-reqs and other requirements now since you'd obviously want proficiency in Longbow as early as possible, but you have the number of feat slots to still make this work.

    I suggest that a pure monkcher build would simply be so feat starved that it would be best to lesser into it at lv21 or 24...

    If you do that, then relying on Windhowler Bracers (ML 13) for proficiency should work fine, and gives a bit of extra damage on top of that (+1 physical, +2 to hit, 30+5d6 sonic on vorpals with no save, I have tested that one it is not like the description)

    I actually have thought about the build before, now that Sorc past life can theoretically allow a pure monkcher. The feats I believe would go something like

    (In no particular order, since I planned on lessering into the build)

    Regular+Epic (9):
    Point Blank Shot
    Weapon Focus Ranged
    Sorc active past life
    Rapid Shot (rapid reload does not work for bows at all, and that is WAI, only rapid shot works)
    Manyshot
    IC: Ranged
    Bow Strength
    Precise Shot
    Improved Precise Shot

    Monk special (3):
    Precision
    Zen Archery
    Toughness

    As other people have pointed out, IPS, Manyshot, and Bow Strength are simply crucial for any archer build, and it will take a while to get all the feats you want due to prerequisites and BAB requirements and the fact that you only get most of your feats every 3 levels. You also won't be able to use 10k stars that many times until you get some passive ki regeneration, and your handwraps fighting will blow. So that's why I would want to use the free lesser to get to it.

    This is the only way I see a pure monkcher being remotely viable. And even then, its a tough sell. Once Combat Archery and Improved Martial Arts get fixed (Last i heard they were not giving any +[w] bonuses to Ranged combat, and I have not seen any patch notes that they have been addressed since then), this build will be missing a decent chunk of epic damage due to feat restrictions.

    An alternative to this route could be ranger Dilli, as mentioned by an earlier poster. Bow proficiency and mini bow strength could work out well, though it will eat into you AP and will effectively softcap your strength at 26. Even for a max wisdom build, that is a rather low benchmark. It would free up a feat and let you swap out windhowlers, though (Perhaps for the Bracers of the SunSoul - great item from a great set!).

    OP - There is a reason you don't see pure monkchers.

    I think it might be the first pure monkcher build O: anyways, tryied it out, with spider-spun caparison, pally ED, and easy to gethttp://ddowiki.com/page/Epic_Elemental_Longbow_of_Earth_(Level_20)_(Tier_3 ) and maybe sun-soul (wind) REALLY good build with only 10 seconds which you can switch to handwraps of major dpsing. imbue arrows with WHATEVER. their +5 returning AA arrows and its fun to use +20 attack boost with attack boost from versatility III. stand against the tide, as it benefits us GREATLY! may want to twist into sense weakness/haste boost for ultimate awesomeness when having kukan-do/manyshot:10k stars on. gear is pretty easy to get, just faram challenges with expiernced party/solo and deal and demon easy to get robes. level up to 25 fast so you can farm ED and get all up to TIER 6!!! may wanna spend 3rd twist into grandmaster of flowers wind thingy or shiradi champion something.
    going to try to build one my self ... based off of mah pure monk with some archer feats because i mean who wouldnt do such

    awww.... I just noticed you did not fit melee in the monk

    usually the entire point of even using the monk is to have a real reason to have a bow in your hand outside of manyshot. And for that wis is needed in spades. Just stacked.

    Theirs a thread somewhere with the numbers all tested out. But the quick end is, unless you do have a grand grand wis mod, you still might as well not have the bow. If ur firing even 2 arrows most of the time ur still just capsizing. It needs to hit 3 reliably.

    Otherwise no matter the class you end up like that dude I saw in EN von 5. He might of had the shir ED, but all I saw was this sliver of red slowly, agonizingly reluctantly going down. Meanwhile I turn around, stun and beat the other robot down in 3 seconds. Then I turn back around to still see it sloooowly going down.

    And also I don't even see manyshot. That's literally THE feat for range. To even pick up a bow on the monk would just hinder dps extremely.

    In addition to all of the other myriad problems mentioned above: This is a pure build and you posted it in the Multiclass forum.

    I'm not usually one to say 'fail' as it is both rude, and godawful grammar to boot, but I think this thread may qualify.

    I could see this (sorta) working after a few tweaks:

    • Take rgr dilly instead of cleric for bow prof. and (limited) Bow STR.
    • Put more into WIS; lower STR & CON if need be. Only need enough DEX for ranged pre-reqs (21 for Combat Archery).
    • Drop Rapid Reload (xbow-only) for Imp Prec Shot; swap Stunning Fist for Manyshot; move Precision to lvl 6 monk feat.
    • Epic feats: Imp Martial Arts and Combat Archery.

    That said, I consider monk 6 or monk 12 the "sweet spot" for monkchers; you need too many darn feats to be successfully - more so if you want melee too.

    First glaring issue I see , you are not proficient in bows (unless zen archery grants proficiency but last I checked it didn't)

    Second is rapid reload , only works with crossbows

    Last is you take zen archery then load up on Dex?
    Since you aren't taking IPS I see no reason to do so. Enough dex for precise shot and rest In to wisdom.

    THis does grant proficinecy.... i only take zen for center. shinato is for kukan do/metal bypass(byeshk, such)
    oopsie, rapid shot
    new feats:
    switch out rapid shot for toughness, if you'd like that and i took precision because i think its beetter now for dps, 25% crit bypass, and +5% stacking to hit. manyshot, IPS for 21, 24

    Are you sure? I'm not seeing Proficiency anywhere in that build, and I cannot find any resources that indicate Zen Archery grants it.
