Default Myddo and DDO Store (i.e. browser) unbearably slow

Since 15.2 (and through 16) my DDO Store and MyDDO - the incorporated browser -
is now unbearably slow. It takes upwards of 10 minutes for the the DDO Store home
page to come up. Looking at the various pages takes ages. Transactions often time
    out. Anybody else?

Same problem here too. I was hoping it would go away in a patch or two and has not.

I have also tried things like unblocking awesominum process or whatever with no change.

Like everyone else, the browser window is slow, and sometimes even fails with a "DNS Name Not Resolved" white page shown, eventually it will go away with slow launcher. Launcher and everything else outside of store/myddo seem ok.

The other symptom I notice is a tendency the DDO will not shut down immediately, especially if I have not been logged in for a while. I think this is probably related to the whole 5+ min wait before even the basics for the store come up.

Also I notice that things do not animate properly, so you don't always getting loading circles and most of the time you don't know if the Submit button you press worked, just after a while it would come back.

I don't raise this by in game browser as it has issues too.

My awesomiumprocess.exe does not run (not visible in process list). I believe this
is strongly related to these symptoms. They introduced this new technology fairly
    recently.

Anyone confirm that awesomiumprocess.exe is running and they do/do not have
performance issues? (very slow, odd graphic behaviour in store/myddo).

I also get a 404 when I open the help window.

Anyone familiar with awesomium and know how to debug it?

For reference, I added awesomium to my defender list and excepted it from my
Avast file system shield. I get the same issue with Avast uninstalled and also
on a clean boot (all non-MS services disabled).

Is there any dependency on JRE version here?

For unbearably slow in-game browser plotting (DDO store etc) maybe give this a try?

You're very welcome. I was stunned at how simple this was when I found it. My in-game store was so slow it was unusable. Now its super speedy.

    The technical details:

I need to do more reading on both that option and on what chrome embedded applications like the in-game store and DDO do with it...its got "find out more about me" written all over it...

From what I have read so far, there appears to be a bug in the "chrome framework" that runs these embedded apps such that when that Auto setting is enabled in Windows the framework constantly calls the "proxy resolver", must be doing it every time it wants to load a local graphic resource like every display element, maybe more. So the thing is resolving and resolving and resolving when it shouldn't need to do ANY resolving. A couple of notes in the google chrome code blogs say it was "fixed" in a later release.

Now if I can figure out who to tell at Turbine....

Right. All the info is in here (you can even get the diffs):

    http://code.google.com/p/chromium/is...etail?id=40797

It was fixed 2 years ago - Turbine need to update their bits.

I had a ticket open with Turbine, I passed on this information to them.

    Thanks again!

Glad you passed it on - yes 2 years ago it was fixed, but I know how a company might want to be careful about just quickly updating versions without careful assessment of what might go wrong, too. I'm glad you passed it on. I was hoping they'd at least add something to the support center FAQ page - maybe they considered it but felt it was too risky to recommend lest they be blamed for other browsing issues that might come up for the user? More likely, probably just too busy.

I'm also very curious just how many people are affected by this. Since it affects the player/user's willingness to give money to the Turbine Store I would have thought it would be a priority for them, but if the Turbine staff access the net in such a way they don't see the problem, they would reasonably assume its rare and/or entirely a "client side" issue.

Interesting further reading about that Automatic option itself, apparently it can slow down generic browsing, too. On some systems group policies and other registry entries can override it anyway. Sometime I want to read more to see if there is any downside at all to always disabling it, and under what conditions it was meant to be default enabled anyway. But that's for when there's spare time, and right now every little bit goes to playing DDO!

I asked them to update their FAQ. They said:
"Per the internet options change we will definitely note this for
future reference and add it to our information for players. "

I then forwarded the specific chromium bug to them. They said:
"Thank you for your reply. We will forward this information to our engineering and testing teams."

I don't think there's much more to be done. Hopefully it will make an FAQ as
it's a total PITA and completely non-intuitive to debug.
