Default Stuck on openning main form

    Hi,

The launcher simply go to "open main form step".

Has somebody ever found a solution for this problem ?

    I have tried this :
    http://support.turbine.com/ics/suppo...questionID=389

I also have tried to delete alert.html and news.html in appdata.

Sometimes I can open DDO and play (like yesterday evenning).

And now I have been trying for the last 40 minutes, to no avail.

I don't know if this will be any help, but for me it works just fine.

I run ddo via steam AND have dx11 down to dx9. (the game crashes when i run dx11)
You could always try a clean reinstall. Remove the game, clean the registry and run a fresh install.

Anyway, i hope you get it fixed soon!

The launcher uses the Microsoft .Net framework, so it might be worth checking that that's all up to date. Fire up Windows Updates and check for any .Net framework updates; they may be tucked away under the Recommended section, and not necessarily selected. If you have all the available updates, you could try repairing your .Net framework from Add/Remove programs.

Also, there are often problems with firewalls not recognizing DDO files after an update. Try turning your firewall off and trying again. If it works, turn your fire wall back on, remove any existing DDO entries and re-add them.

As a minor aside, from the article you linked you don't need to worry about the

If your DDO launcher is hanging on the 'Opening Main Form' stage, please make sure that you have Internet Explorer installed and open, as Internet Explorer is the default web browser for the DDO launcher
as the launcher now uses Awesomium for the web components, not Internet Explorer (I've uninstalled Internet Explorer and everything works fine)

    Default Q

I have found something which seems to help : i simply delete the raw / de / logo data and now it is redoanloading stuff. I will keep you updated but if I can reproduce the error, and the "work around".... It might be good to add it in some FAQ somewhere... ?

Nope after a while it says "restart launcher" then again go stuck on main form.

But interrestingly if I force it to redownload data, it shows me all the update process.

Does the steam version use the turbinelauncher.exe for launch ? If it does not I might try that.

I found a forums post somewhere on the net saying to wait.

AFter 10 minutes it seems to be openning the main form. I closed to retry but here is what is in the log :

See the time stamp between line openning main form and the rest.

My bet is that it is not at all my system, but the launcher trying to download something , failing, and then skipping it after 10 minutes.

I retried on two different machines and I get the same result.

After 10 minutes of waiting on Openning main form, I get to the update screen / login screen.

    Default My last update

I consider the problem "solved". Without debugging the launcher I can't be certain 100% but it seems that the launcher attempt to check or download or do some stuff , maybe from microsoft.com. When that fail or is slow (like yesterday evenning the speed I got from MS was less than 2 kb.s-1 the rest of the web was OK even akamai I got full speed) then the launcher sttutter for 10 minutes on "openning main form". And before somebody ask, no it isn't a virus.

Today I get full speed on MS web site, and tada ! The launcher is going without standing at "openning main form". My gut feeling is that it maybe is checking for the latest version of dotnet and not getting a timey answer.

Maybe the dev could check if there is a way to insert a time out or display a message saying the access is slow or something. And maybe simply skip the check if the localy installed version is matching the minimum requirement of the launcher.

Well anyway if somebody got a STUCK OPENING MAIN FORM then simply let the things simmer for 10 minutes maybe more. Chance is that it will then work.

I'm wondering if it was some kind of bottleneck in the path your ISP chose to route you to the download server you mentioned, i.e. a "transient internet error"?

If that's the case, these things have been known to happen and there are so many places a developer would have to check for them....almost everywhere.....

Or some other transient connection related problem that would be relatively uncommon....

After a biot more sleuthing (wireshark) it seems that it is content.turbine.com.

It is very quick to answer in the morning.

But on the evenning it is slow as hell (interrestingly I am *not* lagging at all in game).

Whatever is being downloaded from there seems to take forever in the evenning.
