Default Movie: D&D3:The book of Vile Darkness

Looks like Saturday is all about dragons on the Syfy channel this weekend - Syfy Schedule, Nov 24

For you B-Movie fans - looks like they're playing "Dungeons & Dragons 3: The Book of Vile Darkness" as well as "Dungeons & Dragons 2: The Wrath of the Dragon God" and a few other dragon-related movies.
Thelanis, The Band of the Shifting Sands:
Nen (Barb/Ranger, Founder) / Emeril (Cleric, Founder) / Kraxkit (Dex Ranger) /

No, that's from the first one.

They're doing the second one (with the bald guy villain, the paladin protagonist, and the hawt chick who gets cursed to turn into a lich) plus the new one.

I hate myself for knowing this. >.<

Just watched D&D3. At least it wasn't Tales of an Ancient Empire

Yes I knew this, but it's a great image. The 2nd one had some classic D&D moments in it, whatever your opinion of the final product. I love them as really cheesy fun, but then again, I love Mazes and Monsters.

I've got the first two, now I'll need the third for my collection.

Yeah, I can't help but enjoy Mazes and Monsters either (despite the negative politics behind it). First D&D movie however made me never bother with the second, and didn't even realize there was a third. Maybe one of these days I will have a bad B movie day and decided to check them out.

Those films are NOT D&D movies. Infact they are not even films, but mass delusions caused by a curse that clearly has been placed upon all who would love D&D.

There actually is a good D&D film, although due to licensing issues during production it ended up with a generic name and no official connection to our beloved franchise.

It also happens to be one of my favorite old sword and sorcery sci fi films. Its called Krull and some might remember it for that movie with the cool shiny gold and jewel encrusted Glaive that returned to its throwers hand.

Krull was and in my mind remains the only actual D&D movie. Having a dragon or spells like Dimension door do not a D&D movie make.

I dont doubt a group of devoted D&D fans could make a better film. Much as devoted LOTR fans made The Hunt For Golem fan film which if you havent seen could give the official production company a run for its money where those movies are concerned.

LOVE Krull! Wish I'd kept my comic book two-part series of it. I probably could have sold it for lots of food* money when I was broke in college. Then again, maybe not. A quick Internet search shows copies for it going cheap...

Krull ftw. Also have to love the teleport error reference in the 2nd D&D one heh.

Incidentally back when we were putting Turbine Point codes in the blue ray release of the D&D movies bundle, I had a "homework assignment" to re-watch them. I realized that with a little editing and inclusion of some of the cut materials (and the alternate ending), the first one could be reworked into a decent kid's movie.

First change............ rogue does NOT yell for the bad guy to turn around. Just cut straight to the back-stabbage.

Well I feel alot better about those running DDO with the above replies. Knowing a few names in the company remember Krull so fondly as I do helps me to keep faith in the future of DDO truly.

I say forget the fan edit of the official D&D movies. Im starting to really ponder over the idea of a fan made D&D based movie akin to the previously mentioned "The Hunt For Golem" which is a very enjoyable short film and imo had very well choreographed fighting and serious effort in portraying the characters.

I know we table top dice chuckers tend to give Larpers a hard time, and that larp is the first thing that springs to mind when we talk about live action D&D. However some of the best dramatic characterization I have ever seen was not on stage but at the table top. When we love a character and strive to bring that character to life via RP so that not just we but those around us are drawn in and immerse all the table top in that world created by our collective imagining is exactly the same goal directors have when trying to get actors to do something.

Im not saying every gamer can portray their conan esque barb etc. but I know plenty of round bellied guys with frizzy hair who would make great halflings

Wow. Krull. There's a movie I haven't thought about in a long time.

Although I do think my favorite of the genre is The Beastmaster

With honorable mention for The Dungeon Master
Thelanis, The Band of the Shifting Sands:
Nen (Barb/Ranger, Founder) / Emeril (Cleric, Founder) / Kraxkit (Dex Ranger) /
Klyde (DPS Barbarian) / Sojourne (Rogue, Trapsmith) / and many others

Watch the 2nd movie with the commentary it's hilarious!!!

    parphrase:

Krusk: ooo look a dragon I'll hit it with an axe!

Jozan: no this dragon is too much too powerful

    Krusk: two axes?

Jozan: no Krusk, the dragon can withstand much more than a mere blow of an axe...

    Krusk: ok three axes.
