Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I still kind of think that the incentive to buy the packs ought to be with the packs themselves offering high quality, interesting, and bug free content that people want to play.

Buying the pack because it is the only way to get some piece of loot, seems like a lame excuse for putting out shoddy content that people would otherwise not want to play. which seems awfully gimmicky and like poor business practice. At least to me.

So if all the loot was removed from the challenges, people would buy them still?

Some of us would, just to run the new quests. For some players, it is not about the loot, but the story or journey or the character doing new stuff.

I like the idea about people that purchase the pack getting some extra leeway in the binding restrictions.

I cannot emphasize how much I have ignored the Eveningstar pack and probably will never buy it due to the strictly inferior binding system compared to Cannith, which I run all the time.

Side question: does anyone know if they introduced a way to unbind the green dragonscales that erroneously bound to character before or are we just S.O.L. if we have a lot of those?

My question pertained to challenges. Don't really see any story in those.

I'm not sure where you heard that this was there intention with binding.

Bound items were something added before F2P, at the same time as monks. If I remember the wording on the DDOCast episode correctly they stated it was to remove items from the economy. If anything, it looks like they are still holding true to that. ...mostly. Like Zenako said, it's kind of hard to make sense of the rules sometimes.

Crystal Cove uses BTA/BTC on acquire. Only 2 items I can think of there are unbound. Pirates port and the coffee. Not being used there to make a sale.

How many of the items from Motu and later are bind on acquire? Chain end rewards and raid items are all that come to mind. Everything else I can think of is binds on equip/auctionable/tradeable.

The rest of the premium packs have a decent amount of unbound items. Raids and reduced ML items being the major exception.

It would make sense to be using bta/btc as a motivation to make a sale, but I don't see them doing it.

I didn't hear it, I just think its sort of obvious why ingredients in Eveningstar are BTC. If you can play this content for free using tokens, they need to have a speed bump for people unwilling to pay for the content. BTC ingredients do that.

I could be wrong, I doubt we will ever see a dev response on this though, so we will probably never know.

Which is why going the extra step and making those ingredients only BtA for content OWNERs might be a good marketing step to enhance the appeal of actually purchasing the content and not freebieing it.

Featherof Sun mentioned at the lamannia mabar preview that he would consider bumping the ingredients up to BTA if he gets time.

Hopefully they'll do with the eveningstar challenges the same thing they did with the cannith challenges and loosen it up a bit. I'm more than a little curious what would happen to things if they unbound challenge ingredients completely. There are about 3 challenges I'd be happy to pay plat through the nose through and avoid the pain.

Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.
