Default Dungeons and Dragons 3: Book of Vile Darkness

Wow... they made a third one. With a trailer and everything. To be honest, I didn't know they made a second one.

This one seems like it might be good after a few beers, and a group of good friends to make fun of it with. I love me some D&D - but this looks like a great example of why a lot of folks kinda pity D&D fans. Although, after seeing that terrible heap of pixels that was the dragon at the end of the trailer - I kinda want to see this just to get a glimpse of their version of a Mind Flayer.

That was the second one. While campy they did do a few... gamer geek things. Standard dungeon puzzle, failed teleport, and dragon swallowing a player whole.

Sadly, the barbarian acted too much like Red Sonja to really be a barbarian.

I watched the first two, and will see this one eventually. They are not horrible, well I keep telling myself that anyway.

I actually kind of liked the second one. It was direct to video, and it at least had a dungeons and dragons feel to it, unlike the weirdness that was the first one. This trailor has the feel that they are both trying to hard and not really trying at all to me. I hope the actual film is better than the trailer. I'll probably watch it at least once.

    The first was the worst...

    That came out badly...

But the second did a much better job of catching some of the
Flavor of the game while keeping the silliness down to a minimum.

The third looks to be more like the second than the first.
Which means it could be a good beer and pretzels movie.

I mean it could be worse... It could go the way of

I liked both for different reasons - the first was just campy and slapstick humor with some D&D tossed in as a side. The second took itself TOO seriously ("DAM OH DARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"), but TRIED to get back to the feel of a D&D adventure. I'll get this one on iTunes or Blu Ray just 'cause.

Oh dear. I watched the first one, I wonder if Jeremy Irons lists that among his career highlights? This trailer looks truly awful.

You can get more bang for your CG buck as time goes on .. so perhaps it won't look too bad. Anything should be able to beat the dracolich from the second one.

Also, English accents do low-budget fantasy much much better than American accents.
