Default Rogue 32 Point Assassin Build - Half Elf best Choice?

    Hey guys,

After playing a - gimped - "range damage only" rogue, I decided to give some thought to an Assassination build for lots of DPS - while still maintaining decent control over traps. So, I decided to see what people thought of a 32 point Half Elf build, primarily concerned with levelling up to 20 (I will pursue the Shadowdancer ED at a later time. Shadow lances just sound awesome). I'm going to work on getting 1990 points - 995 of which will go for the Half Elf... however, I'm torn about whether or not I should use the remaining points for the Epic Destiny item, when this character hits 20, or just use it on Druid's Deep or Secrets of the Artificers.

I just had a few questions about what the standard Assassin build would be - what stat tomes (+2s) should I go for? Gearwise, I have a Bloodstone already - and I'm thinking of trying to grab two Envenomed Blades. I also have a tome of intelligence, constitution and a +1 tome of strength already - I'm considering selling the Con tome for a Dex tome... though I'm not sure. Any input on a build like this would be great.

If you are planning on making other things besides a rogue, then yes buy Half Elf.

Otherwise, a Human rogue would actually be better than a Half elf. Rogue Dileante doesn't stack with Rogue sneak attack, so anything else would just be a slight bit of help and nothing extra at cap that a rogue couldnt do anyway.

Someone might want to clue meh in here.

i dont think anyone in their right mind would take Rogue Dilly on... a Rogue.
goes for any dilly your already taking the class of.

i only had a HE for a week, an AA the week it came out.
then deleted. gimpy compared to Pureblood, with what i build.
coulnd't find a mask quick enough either.

but hey, they do have le best moves for when you wanna get your dance on.

but ive always assumed, after looking at their abilities? they would make quite an excellent Rogue, or Bard also.

    am i wrong?

Ya id say human would be the best choice. Even as a rog, feats can still get to the point where you wish ya had one or 2 more. Especially depending on where your eyes lye as far as epic feats go.

Helf is more for either self reliance to characters that don't want to sacrifice lvs for umd, or for kind of shoring up various things, or splashes it helps. But as a rogue your already able to do **** well anything.

So in that case you'd go for human for the extra feat. As well as of course the ability that both human and helf get to jack up your dmg using the versatility enhancement at the same time as your haste boost. Burn stuff down real quick after whipping a bluff at em.

Actually That is sort of the one good point of a helf to a rog. Helfs get a racial line, intimidate, bluff, diplomacy. These are on a separate timer from the regular skill. So basically you have 2 bluffs to use. And those are really nice for forcing SA dmg on a red named.

Chiming in: Half-Elf is nice, but I wouldn't buy it for rolling a rogue. Go human. This choice is currently so much better (Human Versatility, Healing Amp, Extra Feat) than the alternatives it isn't funny.

Do you plan to stay at cap with the rogue for a while? If yes, I suggest to arrange the stats in a way you can get the Improved Sneak Attack feat at level 21, which requires 21 Dex with tomes, i.e. spending level-ups and tomes to reach this break point is a viable option. This way, stats which matter for a rogue are: Str, Con, Int, Dex. Even Cha since this helps you with UMD.

It helps a lot if you have level-adequate trap gear, which also includes +Int items and other skill boosting clickies.
