Chai, they've done a lot for melees in the last year... If anythign at this poitn the game is far more balanced then it has ever been. What soemone spends in teh DDO store to play is none of YOUR business... Or Should it be any of your concern.. No amount of your cortling will change the fact that the DDO store exists as a profit center, it will continue to exist as that and it will in fact likely get worse as far as your "Pay to cheat" or "Pay to win" fest goes on... It's the way it is... And it's the way it will be... As for Maddmatt.... His mountain sized super-ego is under threat from all the people that do things he thinks they shouldn't be able to do. Somehow his achievements won't mean as much.....
Is it time to put a self destruct timer on this thread?

After beating myself in the head and face area with these 48 pages of awesome, I think I'm finally starting to get what Norg and Chai are trying to say. So, in honor of this thread, today, as I start my final wizard life, I have made a promise to myself to conserve my mana and drink pots sparingly. From this day forward, I will not drink more than 100 mana pots per login.
Thank you guys for showing me the way. I'm already level three and have not touched a pot. I'm the best!

You know who else didn't like people drinking SP pots? Hitler.
>_>
Seriously, though...this thread (really, both sides of the argument) now looks pretty much like this:
Just let it be dead, and let it rot in peace until it disappears. Just like the BYOH arguments and many others, arguing this won't solve anything, and all that's happening is a rehashing of old arguments. It's time to let it go. :P
(As a side-note, I wouldn't be surprised if this thread goes another 10-20 pages after this post before finally being locked/cubed/etc.)

Silly man! Arian people were all pure barbs/fighters and thus did not need measly SP pots. Jews OTOH were sorcs/wizs/druids/bards/artis/clerics/fvs's and could benefit from them. Thus they weren't alowed to drink them.
Now just imagine if they were permited to drink them - anyone seen the movie Inglorious Bastards? That's what happens if you give people SP pots.

Oh I have no idea what anybodies background is...
I do know that Germanicus and myself had this same conversation about 8 months ago.... In the end he admited he had no clue what he was talking about..... Seems he's forgtten though.. Maybe if he went back and read those posts![]()
It is invalid because melee can buy stuff from the ddostore just as easily as casters can. Stat potions, weapons, green steel ingredients, tomes, healing potions, +1 stat trinkets, xp potions, xp tomes, slayer bonus potions, guild renown bonus potions, crafting bonus potions, crafting ingredients, etc. The healing potions alone can give a melee "unlimited hit points". The only game balance you appear to be concerned about here is that others might have more disposable income than you. I can understand it, I have had short bouts of jealousy in the past that others have more free time to play than I do. But I got over it.
The game is not balanced against those that can afford to buy things from the ddostore, but an argument can certainly be made that at times things have been balanced against those people that simply have no life and can afford to spend endless hours grinding for enough greensteel items to sink a battleship. I guess we could have referred to that as 'divorced to win'.![]()
(This is not meant as a knock towards those with no life, more power to them, so-to-speak, as I've said I've been jealous of being able to that here and there).
This is pages ago but this annoys me THAT much, I have to rehash it.
I've been in epics (this was before the normal/hard/elite business where certain epics were brutal for the unprepared and even sometimes for the prepared) where the rogue is backing away out of my AOE heals and stops DPSing to heal himself with a scroll. Annoys me!
If I ask for help, yes, please, help heal the tank. But these are epic QUESTS. Dungeons. Not raids. Stop failing to do your real job... DPS... to do MY job.
You don't save anyone anything if you do not stay in the AOE range. You don't save anyone anything if you prolong the fight by not DPSing and instead heal scrolling or using SF pots.
I'm not going to condone a cleric not using aura or scrolls (my only cleric is a heavy multiclass who is not meant to heal parties, I play a FvS as heals). But I am going to say you're not helping anyone with your playstyle either. If a party is BYOH then by all means. If a party is a hard epic and not BYOH, do YOUR job.
Rogue, this means:
1. Stay BEHIND enemies if at all possible.
2. Even if tank SUCKS, stay in melee range, I will heal you even if the boss hits you.
3. DPS DPS DPS
You're not in a raid. You're not tank heal-biatch. You're a DPS in an epic quest, DPS already.
--Sarcasm mode on
Maybe we should indeed put some heftier timers on those SF pots and heal scrolls so you DPS will stop wasting everyone's time not doing your job! Learn to play your class and DPS.
--Sarcasm mode off
I'm not going to grace the original post with a real response because it does not deserve it. Blechs.

Wow... 48 pages... thought this post was gonna die during the weekend.. guess I was wrong. Still think it's silly to put timers on stuff like this. If you want to spend money on the game, be my guest, if you don't, good for you, save it for when you really need it. But you can't tell a player how to play unless it's some friendly advice about to to improve their gaming style.
Here are my +1s for the day....
Is this thread really at 48 pages!?!?
The amount of players who actually drink sp potions continously is extremely small.
Last time Fawngate drank several was doing an Epic Elite Forgotten realms series
while she and some great players were using a hirling for heals.
Silly fellow kept trying to use his mace on the boss...
