What soemone spends in teh DDO store to play is none of YOUR business... Or Should it be any of your concern.. After beating myself in the head and face area with these 48 pages of awesome, I think I'm finally starting to get what Norg and Chai are trying to say. So, in honor of this thread, today, as I start my final wizard life, I have made a promise to myself to conserve my mana and drink pots sparingly. From this day forward, I will not drink more than 100 mana pots per login.

Thank you guys for showing me the way. I'm already level three and have not touched a pot. I'm the best!

I've seen whole departments numbering in the many dozens of peopl;e get canned for no other reason than the person above them fell out of favor for any number of reasons totally unrelated to anything involving numbers. Even if a division or subsidiary is profitable, they are constantly re-tooling to see if it can be more profitable. Simply put, this isn't an acurate indicator of anything, although it certainly COULD be evidence of some problems.

You haven't been around DDO long have you

It's gone up and down a lot over the years. I still see far more activety on the LFM boards now than has been the case on average over the last 6 years I've been playing. Yes it is down from the highs jsut after the expansion though.

Hmmm, what? The cost of the game depends on the development cycle it's in... There was a large build-up pre-MOTU over the period of about 16 months. With MUCH smaller updates planned for the future there's no reason to keep the DDO as large as it was.

They took a shot at the German and French speaking markets. It's nto paying off... It happens....

But it is now owned by an enbtertainment company and is being headed by an entertainment executive. If you think that they aren't going to slowly morph the business within the properties they've been buying at a rather rapid pace... Well you're 100% wrong....

Who knows.. Again you're jsut guessing with little to no knowledge of Turbine, the gaming industry, WB, or the entertainment industry as a whole. I point to what i said above about restructering.... Surely with a decrease in active subscriptions, revenue is down. But that doesn't mean it's in trouble, at least not the kind of trouble you're talking about.

Stepping into gaming in the way that WB has over the last 4 years, with them recognizing that movie and music revunues are WAY down, and gaming revenues worldwide are genrally way up, of course ALL their gaming propoerties are being watched closely. They are still far more intersted in and invested in console gaming, that's where they think the big money is.

You really don't know much of anything about the situation... You don't have a single set of numbers from anywhere.. In other words you're trying to read tea leaves from accross the river.

It's all about cash flow, and considering that Turbines two current in development properties jsut released large exapnsions and are now moving into a slower develpoment cycle, it makes sense for them to trim the fat. And after 2 years of watching how Turbine operates it makes perfect sense for them to bring in some new people to move the operation forward. You would realise that IF you had noted who they hired recently and what those peoples experience is in the gaming world.

In other words... There's little doubt revenue might be down.. But what your'e goign on about and to the degree you're creating.... It's a big guess with no actual real information whatsoever......

Now back to the topic at hand...

    >_>

Seriously, though...this thread (really, both sides of the argument) now looks pretty much like this:

Just let it be dead, and let it rot in peace until it disappears. Just like the BYOH arguments and many others, arguing this won't solve anything, and all that's happening is a rehashing of old arguments. It's time to let it go. :P

(As a side-note, I wouldn't be surprised if this thread goes another 10-20 pages after this post before finally being locked/cubed/etc.)

Silly man! Arian people were all pure barbs/fighters and thus did not need measly SP pots. Jews OTOH were sorcs/wizs/druids/bards/artis/clerics/fvs's and could benefit from them. Thus they weren't alowed to drink them.

Now just imagine if they were permited to drink them - anyone seen the movie Inglorious Bastards? That's what happens if you give people SP pots.

    I remember the conversation well.
Step one: They stated game balance of limited mana was the reason casters outDPS melee, until they run out.
Step two: Multiple forumite pull their card on the fact that theres a limitless supply of mana potions in the store.
Step three: Dev responds back declaring that theres an endless supply of mana potions available is an invalid statement.

Its not invalid. Its a money maker, therefore they are going to allow game balance circumvention and poo poo anything that is said against it. Why is it so hard to admit how this affects game balance? People peed and moaned for years on these very forums about how casters were just killing everything and that it wasnt fun playing their melee anymore, and now many of those same people do a complete 180 and suppoort pay to cheat allowing casters to remove the one limitation that was in place keeping any semblance of game balance whatsoever. Did I say it was STARTING to smell like a waffle house in here. Its actually been that way for a few years now. We just got so used to it that it became the norm. When other people walk in who havent been here yet, they smell the pay to cheat, and move on.
It is invalid because melee can buy stuff from the ddostore just as easily as casters can. Stat potions, weapons, green steel ingredients, tomes, healing potions, +1 stat trinkets, xp potions, xp tomes, slayer bonus potions, guild renown bonus potions, crafting bonus potions, crafting ingredients, etc. The healing potions alone can give a melee "unlimited hit points". The only game balance you appear to be concerned about here is that others might have more disposable income than you. I can understand it, I have had short bouts of jealousy in the past that others have more free time to play than I do. But I got over it.

The game is not balanced against those that can afford to buy things from the ddostore, but an argument can certainly be made that at times things have been balanced against those people that simply have no life and can afford to spend endless hours grinding for enough greensteel items to sink a battleship. I guess we could have referred to that as 'divorced to win'. (This is not meant as a knock towards those with no life, more power to them, so-to-speak, as I've said I've been jealous of being able to that here and there).

We had one divine, a cleric, and I think that I was on a rogue. I was trying to do my diligence to heal myself with scrolls and through silver flame pots and the like. In this random pug the cleric did not care about mana pots. He used no scrolls and no radiant servant aura he just used mana pots. He did not appear to need to use mana pots based on what was going on in the quest, but he did so regardless.

I was constantly healing myself only to be healed right after or right before by teh cleric. I was wearing a +5 charisma skills item and had taken other steps to make my defense and umd stronger, but the cleric did not let this factor in on things and instead drank a pot and healed me with the pot which was something he brought from the store, or had, or bought from the auction house. I had taken steps to make a different character then the normal dps only character in order to alleviate the pressure on the cleric and the cleric did not care.

    Turbine does not care.
This is pages ago but this annoys me THAT much, I have to rehash it.

I've been in epics (this was before the normal/hard/elite business where certain epics were brutal for the unprepared and even sometimes for the prepared) where the rogue is backing away out of my AOE heals and stops DPSing to heal himself with a scroll. Annoys me!
If I ask for help, yes, please, help heal the tank. But these are epic QUESTS. Dungeons. Not raids. Stop failing to do your real job... DPS... to do MY job.
You don't save anyone anything if you do not stay in the AOE range. You don't save anyone anything if you prolong the fight by not DPSing and instead heal scrolling or using SF pots.
I'm not going to condone a cleric not using aura or scrolls (my only cleric is a heavy multiclass who is not meant to heal parties, I play a FvS as heals). But I am going to say you're not helping anyone with your playstyle either. If a party is BYOH then by all means. If a party is a hard epic and not BYOH, do YOUR job.

    Rogue, this means:
    1. Stay BEHIND enemies if at all possible.
    2. Even if tank SUCKS, stay in melee range, I will heal you even if the boss hits you.
    3. DPS DPS DPS

You're not in a raid. You're not tank heal-biatch. You're a DPS in an epic quest, DPS already.

    --Sarcasm mode on
Maybe we should indeed put some heftier timers on those SF pots and heal scrolls so you DPS will stop wasting everyone's time not doing your job! Learn to play your class and DPS.
    --Sarcasm mode off

I'm not going to grace the original post with a real response because it does not deserve it. Blechs.

Wow... 48 pages... thought this post was gonna die during the weekend.. guess I was wrong. Still think it's silly to put timers on stuff like this. If you want to spend money on the game, be my guest, if you don't, good for you, save it for when you really need it. But you can't tell a player how to play unless it's some friendly advice about to to improve their gaming style.

Is this thread really at 48 pages!?!?

The amount of players who actually drink sp potions continously is extremely small.

Last time Fawngate drank several was doing an Epic Elite Forgotten realms series
while she and some great players were using a hirling for heals.
Silly fellow kept trying to use his mace on the boss...
