This is happening in all versions of Wine that I can test (1.4-> 1.5.17-1-i686).

Running Arch, not that you provide support for us Linux heads, but *something* you changed in the code is causing the dndclient.exe to crash everytime.

As a slight update this happens immediately on running the dndclient.exe - before any login details are passed, parsed or otherwise used from pylotro

New: Probably related to this bug (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31979) in the most recent LotRO, will check the developed patch to see if this fixes the error.

    Lotro patch works

    Thx wkavinsky.

Hope it gets in the regular build soon.

Wine patch in previous link fixes this issue with DDO.

Your mileage in figuring out how to apply it may vary however.

I was unable to find an actual patch on that linked page, closest I found was the results of the patch

Could you explain what was done in this thread for it to work?

The patch in question is diff patch to be applied to the source code for wine. In order to use this patch you must download a copy of the source code, apply the patch, compile it and install it somewhere, then use your shiny new version of wine to run ddo. This means you also need the tools and dependencies to compile from source.

In other news, patched wine works great for me, I also took the opportunity to add the patch for this bug http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27168 which got the store/myddo/etc working again.

I have complied wine from source, but all I see in the thread is an attachment that shows the change. I manually changed that part of the coresponding file but nothing happens.

Where is the actual patch file?

You say you know how to compile from source, but don't recognize a source patch? That attachment "correct patch" IS the patch... It shouldn't matter if you make the changes manually, but you did re-compile wine, yes?

the proper way to do it would be to put the patch text into a file, place it in the directory where you have the source

    patch -p1 < [filename]

from a command line in the directory where you have the source, after witch you will need to

    make clean
    ./configure [options]
    make
    make install

in the [options] bit --prefix=[path] is useful for putting the new wine somewhere other than the normal system install

That is now where I have a problem. I am on x64 so I can't compile. I think I have to build wine 32 on x64 first then complie wine with the patch.

I can say with relative certainty that this isn't your problem. I suggest finding a guide to compiling wine on your specific linux distro.

Originally it was fine yesterday I played no problem, and have been playing no problem for almost a year. Then after the update I patched fine, but when I try to login, it directly says ddoclient.exe had a serious problem has to close.

Following the patch instructions is fine till I have to compile then it says I need 32 bit and stops compiling.

To those having problems, please can you post specific distributions so that those of us who *have* patched and are playing can maybe help a bit better?

For those of you on Archlinux, the steps to fix this are fairly simple:

    1) Download this PKGBUILD: http://bit.ly/TjPH2I
    2) extract PKGBUILD
    Code:
    tar -xvzf wine.tar.gz
    (not my PKGBUILD btw)
    3)
    Code:
    cd wine
    4)
    Code:
    makepkg -s
    5) wait (compiling took me a little over an hour).
    6)
    Code:
    sudo pacman -U wine-1.5.17-3-i686.pkg.tar.xz
    - you are using sudo right?
    7) play ddo. Or lotro (same issue affects both programs).

Other distros will have different ways of compiling code, may or may not be able to help with that.

Wine source code will (should) compile automagically for your processor architecture.

Same source will compile fine on x64 and i686 platforms. (and i386 for the really oldschool distros)

I followed your instructions to the letter and all went well until step 4:

    4. Compile in the usual way ( "./configure ; make depend ; make" )
    # ./configure
    # make depend
    # make

    Code:
    checking build system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
    checking host system type... x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes
    checking for gcc... gcc
checking whether the C compiler works... yes
checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out
    checking for suffix of executables...
checking whether we are cross compiling... no
checking for suffix of object files... o
checking whether we are using the GNU C compiler... yes
checking whether gcc accepts -g... yes
checking for gcc option to accept ISO C89... none needed
    checking for g++... g++
checking whether we are using the GNU C++ compiler... yes
checking whether g++ accepts -g... yes
    checking for cpp... cpp
checking whether gcc -m32 works... no
configure: error: Cannot build a 32-bit program, you need to install 32-bit development libraries.
    yikes!
For those about to die, we shall loot you!
