Default Favor Builds for me and my son

Hey all.My son recently took a liking to DDO and since we're both fans of the Japanese anime S.A.O, we decided to look for builds that follows the hero of the story.

basically the hero is a dual wielding longswords,in light or no armor at all and has very fast attack speed. To the best of my knowledge, the following classes should fit in nicely to the description.
    1)rangers
    2)fighters
    3)paladins

We both are VIP and have access to all races and 32-point builds.

What we're both looking for is something of a splash build. Somewhere in the lines of maybe a 12/6/2 variants..
    1)fighter/monk/ranger
    2)fighter/monk/rogue
    3)paladin/monk( solar plexus variant)
    4)fighter/paladin/monk

I do know that the forum community thinks that WSS feat is a trap and handwraps are way3 better for DPS but at the title suggests, this is a flavour build for both me and my son to play and enjoy.Any suggestions as to how to come up with the following build would be awesome.Below is something i came up with..

The only classes that offer anything in terms of raw attack speed are fighters and rogues via Haste Boost and monks via Wind Stance (does not stack with Haste). Rangers give additional offhand chances and paladins give a bit of double-strike, but you won't be physically swinging faster, which seems to be what you're going for.

I think building on rogue will serve you better than fighter judging by the character's appearance (skinny kid) and what little information I can find on the SAO wiki (mastered in Searching and Hiding). Perhaps something like 13 rogue 7 monk? Judging by your build you have 32 point builds and +3 Supreme tomes so I'll run with that:

I included the skill increases because I think monk/rogue offers some interesting potential for maximization, but the leveling pattern I used was pretty arbitrary so who knows. What I feel this offers over your build:

-Less brute force, more finesse. Usually rogues (and rogue types) are tough to solo with, but if there's two of you at least one is going to be piling on the sneak attack, so bully.

-Helf fighter gives you the longsword proficiency and you already had helf so I left it there, but you could go human and just use your human feat on it with pretty much zero mechanical difference if you get sick of helf hugliness.

-I purposefully left a lot of AP unspent and just took what I feel are the musts. I do think you're better off light side for Fists of Light because mitigation can't cover up for healing forever, but if you want Ninja 1 just swap Precision for Dodge. I purposefully did not take Shintao because I feel it offers nothing to this build.

-I also purposefully did not spend level-ups on stats, because you have some interesting choices there. Spending points on Dex would let you get into the TWF chain a little earlier, which is nice, and would also get you the epic feat Improved Sneak Attack, which is very nice. However, outside of feat pre-reqs spending points on Dex is completely pointless, so you may prefer to spend on Strength for good ol' damage or Intel for Assassinate.

-Speaking of, Kensei 2 gives you Power Surge and a bunch of other flat damage. (Also to-hit, but to-hit isn't very important.) That's all very serviceable. Assassin 2 gives you Assassinate, which I think is a lot more fitting to the anime feel. (Although again I haven't watched this particular anime myself.) Your Assassinate is based on rogue level so will be a little less potent than the pure rogue's, but it is also a Fort save, and your Improved Sunder will on average drop the target's save by 5.13, no save, so you've got that going for you.

-Rogue instead of fighter gives you very strong UMD, which can be extremely useful if you can't get a group going. Raise Dead is easily within your reach, Heal scrolls are trickier but doable with some gear. It also of course gives you excellent trap skills. It's also thematically better suited to light/no armor.

difference is mainly 1 ftr,a very small increment to HP but still kinda similar to what you suggested. another build i was exploring was druid splash and using fatal harrier for the increase to attack speed.maybe a 12monk/7druid/1rogue..not an expert on druids and fatal harrier so im just tossing ard ideas as to how to get a high attack speed w/o over reliance on haste pots or spell.something like the link below but instead of using fist i'll be using longswords.

I have played monk alot, but have never used longsword on any of them. From what I understand from reading the wiki and my own experience, you should be able to use Fist of Light with longsword so long as you have the Whirling Steel Strike feat.

    Well, thanks!
Can i just check if Fist of Light works when duel wielding longswords?
It does, a guildy of mine runs... I don't remember the exact class split, but it's some kind of paladin/monk with longswords and light side, I see the "HP piñata" mark all the time when he brings it out.
i never really did think bout rogues as the anime doesnt have traps to disable but imo you do have a point with regards to speed via haste boost. i kinda tweeked the build you gave and came up with a variant of my own. First of all, the starting stats are a lot better. I don't know what I was thinking with 16 str 14 dex to start, that makes no sense at all, 15 str 15 dex is clearly superior.

The fighter splash also makes a lot of sense. You get to choose a superior dilettante, and I didn't squeeze in the monk heal amp 2 that monk 7 gives you anyway, so may as well stop at monk 6. I'm a little leery of Cleave&GCleave (understanding that they're on the way to Overwhelming Critical) just because as a rogue focus the Cleaves are actively antithetical, and I think Precision and the epic Sneak Attack feat are just so valuable for sneak attackers. It's also worth repeating that as a duo clone build sneak attack is a lot more valuable because by definition (at least!) one of you will always be generating it.

Those are just tweaks, though, I think we've got to a very good point in terms of reflecting the build thesis, and gotten some not inconsiderable mechanical power to boot.

LOL +1 for using Kirito as your point of reference, but he was broken even by SAO standards

1st off, tyvm for droppin by to the thread. =) sorry i shd have stated everything i have in the OP b4hand.Well Basically myself and my son are both VIPs and have 32Points Builds unlocked and we have all races too.thank you again for all the builds and links as well.Having already capped my Exploiter,i noe wat you mean.

Well basically we'll just be pugging or running with the guild to make it to 20.CSW pots stacked up to 500 for each toon is ever ready.Basically with the theme of the SAO,the character we're emulating is duel-wielding longswords with light or no armor at best and has very fast attack speeds.

Once again tyvm for dropping by and giving me all your insights.I truly understand that even if i build a monster blitz but using longswords it would drop down in the DPS order but it is a flavour build. =)

    hey there...

I just have a link for you.

    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php...ight=exploiter

It is self sufficient, it is good in groups. While I believe the large part of the build should be followed as closely as possible - since flavor is one of the goals you have here this build should accommodate a little variation in weapon choice and race choice.

I haven't made one, but have grouped with a bunch of them. This is a well proven build 100's if not 1,000's of people can't be wrong.

Presumably you know most of the issues depending on how far you have leveled it. I'm surprised you didn't mention if 32-point builds and premium (other than monk) classes were available: it makes a huge difference with TWF builds. With 28 point builds see the 12/1/7 ranger/fighter/rogue (you add the fighter level) build below, or a drow TWF paladin should work. Consider grinding open drow with a quick and dirty repeater build if you are both stuck on 28 point builds.

The first question should be how you are going to be healed. If you are bringing along a cleric, then I suspect that you go with fighter levels to grab all the TWF feats you need. If you want to be more self sufficient, then ranger, paladin, or monk (presumably going wss) will get further through the dungeons.

    Ranger builds:
You will need at least 12 levels of ranger, probably 13. Ranger has been heavily nerfed and going past this requires more acceptance of a ranger playstyle (you should still be ready to use the bow for any enemy in the distance, or lined up for IPS).
    Pros:
    Built in evasion
Less useless dex (not as appropriate with recent dex weapons)
healing and buffing spells (less useful if you have a med-high level guild)
bow use (depends if you want it or not).
great synergy with rogue (lots of skills)
    Cons:
    less DPS
most of the pros can be done cheaper with other builds
ranger ED is for bows. Expect to throw in 6 fighter levels for the ED

    Fighter builds:
    Most DPS
You can splash in anything as you will have a ton of feats
You can even go finesse (somewhat wasted with fighter strength bonuses) and later pick up dex weapons
    Cons:
no fighter level helps self healing (you might swing full UMD with rogue levels, monk levels would be silly on a fighter)
limited skills (don't expect more than filling out that UMD with rogue levels. No trapping for you).

    Monk builds:
    Pretty useless for swords
    probably just use a splash

    Paladin builds:
    Feat limited
    Probably needs a splash
TWF is the MADest (multiple attribute dependent) build of all. Pure TWF paladins are one of the rare builds that work best with drow.
    Low DPS

Being a fan of rangers, I would recommend those. Since you already have an exploiter you probably already know about the fun and poor DPS that rangers "enjoy". Look for 1 rogue/13 ranger/6 fighter for some great TWF builds. Also consider 13/7 (this build was made for 28 point builds, should work great with a level of fighter added to give power attack, oops).

Paldins: before building a paladin, thou shall first read thy Junts it might be slightly out of date, but it gives enough background to start. Oddly enough, I seem to have trouble finding evasion builds that use monk levels (even dating from the previous AC system). Possible feat choices would include dodge, combat expertise (maybe not, 13 int is too painful), skill focus UMD, so maybe just stick with rogue levels.

Fighter: either 18/2 fighter/rogue or 12/6/2 fighter/ranger/rogue. The ranger level unlocks a few limited spells (but if you aren't in a guild with elemental resists they come in handy), unlocks healing wands and CLW (either build will handle heal scrolls the same), and rather limited trap abilities. Best DPS by far of the bunch, still not so hot (especially if you don't use khopeshes).

Rogue: Completely different playstyle. If you want to be in the mobs' face with two swords, add 12 levels of ranger. Otherwise a good way to go TWF.

    Other builds:
2/2/16 monk/barbarian/bard or fighter/monk (or rogue)/bard I've never made a warchanter, but this might work (note that I've heard bards are dead and the bard-loving dev just left. Might be the wrong time for them).
20 FVS or 18/2 FVS. Mostly died with clickies, but human FVS's get a bonus with longswords (check to see if elf FVSs of the host get stacking bonuses, but I doubt it). 18/2 18/2.

One note: If you are building two TWF builds, I would recommend at least one be a rogue-splashed ranger. Might as well get the traps.

Final note: these are flavor builds. I came into the thread ready to tell you to go with as many repeater feats and speed boosts as possible. Probably 1 bard/2 fighter/1 barbarian or something for a favor runner.

Can't help you match such a different body of work then.

I can only remind you that two best ways of being a "fast fighter" are fighter and rogue haste boosts and haste pots. I am not quite sure how the animation works on those (I only have low end boosts for a low level rogue and one level on my exploiter).

I still recommend one of you have a rogue-splashed ranger or other means of handling traps. It might make your parties happier to have a couple of flavor builds along. An elf melee (longsword bonus) ranger would be pretty unique, and the elf features seem more anime-ish (although your sample picture doesn't look terribly elvish).

    I like 12 ranger 6 monk

Could go 1 rogue and then 7 monk for skills and extra 10% healing

could go 2 fighter for feats and 15% attack speed

1 wizard is cool as it gives extra feat and echoes of power

2 paladin for the saves bonus

Are these builds just meant for 20 or post 20 as well?

B/C a 15 drow paladin 3 monk 2 fighter get a lot of feats and would be a great Fury. And with enhancement pass full line tempest with zeal and monk attack could be pretty decent. (Could also go 14 pali 6 monk).
