Since I am a n00b I tend to play like one but I also like to relax. To me hardcore zergers seem to approach the game like it is a job. I already have a job - I play to get away from the frantic stressful environment.
I tend to solo a lot because I don't particularly want to be a pest to players who are very goal orientated.
Play like you want to play. Everyone is different.
Personally I'm a bit of a balance. The "type A" in my wants to feel the accomplishments and progress, so I do consider XP/min to some degree. However, I will shoot myself in the head before I run a quest 10 times in a row (although thank you Ish for letting me pike the last few runs sometimes while you get me free XP )
I will often run quests that aren't great xp/min because I like them. And I will skip quests I don't enjoy that are good xp/min unless someone I enjoy running with is running them.
I guess I'm part way between zerger and flower sniffer.
Deli flowersniffing... did they break more than the server?
Characters on Orien:
Wanzer/ Klingtanz/ Incanta Superior/ Mercantus
Does that make you a Fed Ex Sniffer?
I personally love trying to hit all the optionals in a quest. Gives a sense of satisfaction that you were able to do everything the designer thought to stick into that run. (which is why I still find ghosts of perdition frustrating since I have never been in a group that was able to get all the undead on each level of the pit on the way down. gggrrrr)

It's why it took me 4-6 weeks pre-Motu, and about 8 weeks post Motu to get a life in...
Mokune was rolled up as a 8 Monk/12 Kensai WSS build right after WSS was introduced and is currently on life 9 Paladin with Sorc FVS Ranger Bard to go for completionist.
I got Shiradi 5 and LD 3 at end of my Druid life.
LD to 4 and Shadowdancer to 5 at end of my last Rogue life.
Will probably do GMoF at end of this life. 2 Monk/9 Paladin atm. Planning on 2Fighter/3Monk/15Paladin.
I am more of an opportunist. I don't like to wait and am always soloing the soloable, running with guildies or joining a promising looking PUG if one is available.
I could have gotten farther in my journey but I took the time to cleanse 2 GS items before my first TR.
Still no Torc though.....I'm over it until that 14th life
There's nothing preventing you from playing how you want to play.
Personally, I recommend you find a friend (or four) to TR with. For me DDO is all about the socializing. If I didn't have friends to TR with, I wouldn't do another.

You are doing it all wrong! It is well known that the best play style our there is piking! Either its zerg run or flowersniffing run, just stick your character in, come up with legit excuse to go afk and....profit! Well to tell the truth I enjoy running new quests or quests I am not that familiar with but when it come to GH walk ups or necro4 quests or wizard-king......ugrrrrr...I've done them soo many times that if I have a chance to pike those I'll ALWAYS (*waves to Alcena) use it!
P.S. Special thanks go to Alcena that allowed me to pike through 3 lives, Llegolas for pretty much leveling my toons for me, Mech and Vvork who farmed out litany and missing to the ground while I was totally piking, my guildies (except Trap: its hard to pike quests when the person you are grouped with is also a piker!) and many other unknown puggers that did not kick me out their groups while I was afk
I keep trying to do the opposite, enjoy each quest and get the full experience. My latest TR had 2 goals, max Favor and complete the Monster Manual, so I'd do each quest once on Elite for BB, and move on, getting all optional kills, and getting all rares in all slayer areas, and opening every map.
It's tiresome. Sometimes you just want to level up.
So... around Shadow Crypt I gave in and ran that like 6 times to level from 10-12 in around an hour (getting from 1-10 took around 2 weeks). Now I've got my GS... and I'm going back to all those level 8-10 quests I 'skipped.' Probably take 13 ASAP too, because I want my Leviks, Gauntlets of Eternity, and a few other ML 13 items, but from there I really, really am going to 'enjoy' it.
I think part of the fun in the XP per minute, from my perspective, comes from the tedium of some of the less fun quests, getting nothing out of it BUT favor, and the knowledge that I have so many sweet items in my TR bank and so many sweet abilities (RS II is just around the corner for me).

Agree with you Krim, my favourite time spent on DDO are:
1. Playing through a new adventure pack for the first time to enjoy the story
2. Participating in team challenges (ie SWAT)
3. Achieving character goals (favor, crafting levels, leveling, new gear) through regular play
Haven't found the interest in the TR game
This may or may not interest any of you guys, but take a look.....

I think it's great that people like playing in different ways, and if someone's having fun doing what they're doing, then more power to them.
But I've also run with a number of people who seem to approach playing the game with all the joy of a tourist in Las Vegas planning out an assault on the all-you-can-eat buffet in an attempt to get the most value for their money, regardless of whether they like the food or not. People who load up six plates of shrimp because it's the most expensive item on there even though they hate seafood, but it makes them feel like they're 'winning'.
I trust that these players are having their own kind of fun. But I have a hard time understanding it sometimes.
If you're not having fun, XP per minute is meaningless....
Someitmes I like to go go go, other times not so much... Depends on my mood....... Some peopel measure tehir entire lives by metrics such as XP per minute, optimization, blah blah, I'm awesome blah blah... I'm not one of them...... It's a game, if you're not having fun what's the point..... But hey, we all have our different opinions on what is and what isn't fun. If XP per minute creates fun for people cool.....
