It always boggles my mind when I hear people complain about having to complete quests based on XP/per Minute and how it is not fun...

If you are doing a recreational activity and your not having fun, than you're doing it wrong.

I like to mix questing up, while some story lines are fun to run in succession others it is more fun to break them up with single series quests.

Sometimes I enjoy taking it slower and other nights hit the ground running and don't stop until we reach the end.

What I have found is that the ZERG Groups (Even TR's) is not the dominate groupings out there, just the more vocal.

Play a game to have fun.

I like to zerg. I like fast play through a quest with like minded people, and race who instakills faster with friends.
Go on. Say I don't play D&D, say I'm noob, say I'm not having fun, say I'm working not playing, say whatever you want.

^^ Exactly my thoughts. +1 to you !

What's fun for me doesn't need to be fun for others. I enjoy the fast pace and the huge XP I am getting in a short period of time.

I'm done flower sniffing, done that been there when I started the game. Now I have set different goals for myself and that involves a fast pace through the game. I enjoy that. That's fun for me.

When new quests come out, then I am back to flower sniffing and explore the new content but hell no, i will not go for all the breakables in Ringleader (for example) or any other quest that I have ran already hundred of times. That would be boring for me, maybe not for others though, but for me it would be a waste of time

Great thing about DDO is that it suits all kinds of play styles. All you have to do is hook up with like-minded players and you're golden which is another thing I like about the game.

I agree, in OUR opinion, it is boring... Now some of them enjoy that style of play... And that's cool too...

The people I really don't understand are the ones who complain that grinding like that is boring, yet they STILL do it.

I've often heard this is a view contrary to popular opinion.
Nah, it's a pretty small segment of the player base who play like that.

Me, I find grinding the same quests at end-game a lot more boring than TRing, and running a whole variety of quests on the way back to cap.

It is like going to a museum and bragging about how fast you made it through. Or bragging about how fast you finished a good steak.

It's because they HAVE to Thrudh, they HAVE to.

As several threads have explained, once a player exhibits Neo-like qualities or just starts speaking like Keanu Reeves (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Keanu not Constantine Keanu - wait, same thing, nm) Turbine actually sends a rep to his house to nail his keyboard to his knees and props open his eyes with wire and toothpicks until the player resembles Malcolm MacDroogie being re-programmed, all the while flogging said player with a cat-o-nine tails forcing him to run House of Rusted blades 9.43E23 times until he speaks Nasdat and his character is so uber that the game ceases to have any challenge for him whatsoever.

It is at this point the player actually BECOMES the red pill and ascends into the ubernet to face the virtual Leviathan threatening Sam, Dean, Castiel, and all life beyond the Stargates. After banishing the Shadows and Vorlons once and for all, said player may, at times, cast a weary glance upon these meek and humble forums to offer pearls of sublime wisdom and existential advice nonpareil: Rangers are still gimp, and that customer service guy from GW2 actually responded to my post!

I don't believe anyone said anything negative about the style, except that it is not what they enjoy. If you have fun doing it that way, Happy Hunting. However, if you play that way and are not having fun, maybe it is how you're playing a game and not the game itself that is the problem.

Wouldn't piking zerg runs be better?
If you're not seeing the quest anyways, why not get more xp per min?

I tried to be very selective with my words in order to clearly indicate I was describing my own personal preferences and opinions.
As for me having fun. The original post said it all. I choose to do what I like and I can respect others doing the same.
Whenever I get a chance to have one of those Zan moments of grouping I enjoy it while it lasts.

Having read some of the responses here I can see how players who are familiar with the content could set themselves different, more challenging goals centering around xp per minute, etc. to have fun.

    I now consider myself edumacated.

Its even more hilarious when its the same people who complain the end game is now too easy. The supposedly much hated grind is what kept their attention in the first place.

I get bored doing the same thing over and over, regardless if its TRing or raiding. So I keep a few toons capped and TR a few. I also enjoy the entire game, and dont see TRing as solely a means to attain more power for running the same few quests and raids at cap. This is the key to not becomming jaded in DDO - enjoying the entire game.

This is also how I play. I agree with you 100% that for players who enjoy actually playing vs grinding and eking every last drop of power this is the most enjoyable way to play.

I really do not have a problem with power grinders, only when the vocal ones try to dictate that play style to the rest or act like it is the only possible way to play DDO. what makes this game so great, is that it allows so many styles of play.

Depends what are you trying to accomplish while piking, with zergers you still have to keep an eye on the screen to recall reenter, with flowersniffers you can take extended afk and....make a dinner or clean the house or make a forum post! :P

It's funny to see how things turn out when the extremes group up unknowingly.
5 flower sniffers standing at the entrance to elite OOB waiting patiently for a last member. It's they're 1st or 2nd time ever doing the quest. Or maybe they know the quest but are undergeared 1st lifers and so have devised a plan to make the run easier.
A power zerger joins, types OMW and gets to the quest in a shake. Enters and starts before the others realize he even went in.
The zerger kills the scorps and the 1st boss before they drop to the ground and then heads off alone northward hacking and slashing his little greensteel heart away.
All 5 members are not as powerful combined as the zerger and they rush off unbuffed and discard the leeroy jennkins planning session. By the time they get to the first bridge the respawns have harried and killed the whole party of 5.
The heroic zerger reaches the last fight and hears 5 dings in a row. Like a bad song.
He giggles. Kills the boss and finishes the quest. He then congratulations them on the completion and leaves group.
    fun times.

What I like best about leveling - is being with people I like. This may sometimes mean zerging with the craziest of zergers, or sniffing flowers with others, or just moving at a good pace.

If the company sucks, what ever method you use is likely be unsatisfying.

Now were are the level 6's right now lol (my poor wizard is stuck there)

    I do a little of A, and a little of B.

Right now started a new TR so have been grabbing all extra xp for the first time through a run, as well as trying to get the low level MM entries, so have been very thorough.

For the Korthos quests, I just buzzed through them, because ****, I hate Korthos.

For later in the game, the first few times, I tend to do alot of exploring to learn the quest, then am happy to buzz through. Especially when I am starting to tire of a life, and just want to finish, so just powerzerging.

I find these post funny, not trying to be rude. Though we get the heart issue, people have different fun gauges. I might find it fun to see how fast I can complete a quest. Other might not, so we have to make a big post about how boring it is to zerg. What the point of this post to get some people to give you thumbs up and other a thumps down. Really you not the only one that things zerging is boring. Though I not the only one this so called different strategy is just really standing around with your thumbs up your butt. Do really need to play slow to try new ideas? I have no idea were this concept comes from, if play slower you use more strategy. It is not base on truth at all. Reality slow or fast playing has nothing to do with strategies. That just a play style. I usely play faster pace, because I get bored of slow playing quest. Though I do tend to try diffferent methods and strategies for fun, it spices up the quest. Kind of like the no huddle in football, trying to catch the other team off balance.

I have no idea why so many accept the speed you play the quest, (Zerging) is a direct relationship with strategy. It has never had anything to do with it at all. Reality I rember the first time I beat the quest and thing of improvements I can make to my game play all the time. If you spend to much time worry about prefect strategies you can get caught with your pants down. Speed you enjoy playing the game though is a personal choose and that is all. Zerging can be boring for some and a blast for others.
