I really don't see what everybody is freaking out about. I don't see how Disney can make the Star Wars franchise any tamer than it already is. None of the Star Wars movies ever had any cursing, blood & gore or raunchy sex scenes. I think the most offensive phrases were "scruffy nerf herder" and "Bantha fodder". And I personally would take Goofy over Jar Jar anyday.

I get all the disney hate. They are an insidious evil company in their own right.

But I seriously doubt that Tinkerbell is going to be painted on the nose cone of luke skywalkers x-wing and that princess leia will be sporting mouse ears instead of the cinnabun hairdo.

Lets face it Lucas tried, but no longer has the ability to craft a decent story. His casting choices were horrible, his multi-media cross over marketing, instead of being clever and deft, was more like him using the great club of the skragg in a china ship and in an effort to make a stream lined story evaporated in a cloud of midi-chlorians.

This change can be nothing but good. Because the Lords of Kobol know it couldnt have gotten any worse.

    Agreed.

Do you really think Disney will go for any lightsaber dismembering? Do not remember any pirates getting limbs cut off or cut in half in Pirates - let alone beheading.

Not to mention Lucas will not even be writing or directing these new abominations!

You sure you watched Star Wars?

Miss out on the beheading, dismembering, and cutting people in half?

True that, but still, Disney couldn't do any worse than Lucas. Lucas put far too much emphasis on seeing toys at McDonalds to 3yr olds. Sure, Disney makes the targetted at children fairy tales, but as mentioned, they've also made some pretty good targetted at adult movies too. I'd be thrilled with a new Star Wars that lived up to the standards of Iron Man.

    I'm super-excited.

Disney also owns Marvel, which produced Avengers. So, there's hope for future movies, because I freaking loved The Avengers.

Also, Lucas can do no more harm to his own franchise - the prequels were a tragedy on every possible level. #3 is watchable, but I can't even sit through #1 and #2.

Disney now has an incentive to milk that franchise for all its worth - it could literally create a new story with new characters (Kyle Katarn, anyone?) and go in all kinds of directions.

The company has put out plenty of content which is not PG rated.

They have had their hands in plenty of production companies over the years after all.

    Why do you dislike Disney?

Disney owned Miramax for 17 years and as far as I could tell Vincent and Jules in Pulp Fiction might have used a curse word or two. They may have even shot some people.

Disney has had a long standing relationship with Lucas. We saw Indiana Jones the Ride, Star Wars the Ride... There was this little studio called Pixar that was sold to Disney in '06...

After what Lucas did to the both the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises, are we really gonna cry over this deal? He went full circle and ended up back at Howard the Duck. So what if the sequel is Donald the Duck(ok, that was terrible, my apologies). As many have succinctly stated so far: It can't possibly get any worse.

Look what they did for Marvel. They brought it back from the dead.

If they can do the same thing they did for Marvel to star Wars we are gonna be in for a treat.

Don't forget without Disney, no Avengers, no Iron Man no Cpt America etc etc.

I think SW universe will be in great hands with disney,

I was thinking this would be a good thing. Who likes the three prequels better than the originals? In my opinion those last three were kinda stinky. I'm a huge starwars fan... Sci-fi in general really. If this gets more movies out in not the sole hands of Lucas... I don't see how this is a bad thing.

    Thumbs up

I had the same 'argghh' reaction at first.

But then I remembered all the terrible things Lucas has done. Many have already been mentioned but here's one you missed...
    Indiana Jones 4: Nuking the Fridge! f e c k i n g Aliens!!

And on the other hand, as much as I hate 'Disney', the company has done some good stuff through autonomous sub-units (like Miramax). And they have done OK with the Marvel Franchise.

So maybe this should give us all "a new hope" for Episode 7...

However, the Expanded Universe - in particular fan fiction (remember Troops?) may not fare so well as Disney is a notorious copyright nazi (oops sorry Walt, I meant copyright sympathiser). Time will tell though.

Disney has not messed up the Marvel movies, and there were a lot of jokes about that merger.

Disney has respected the characters and films, and the above never happened even though Marvel fans howled about it.

I, for one, am overjoyed to hear that Star Wars is no longer in the hands of some senile old crank who is too insecure in his early life successes that he has continued to tinker with them endlessly in his old age.I'm happy that Star Wars won't be subjected to any more gag-reflex inducing bad fanfiction written by the same senile and cranky old man.

Will this be as good for Star Wars as it was for Marvel... I don't know. I just think it's pretty far from a bad thing to have George Lucas no longer behind the wheel. He did not direct Empire or Jedi, and was one of a team of writers that worked on both. They were not his alone, and they were better movies for it. Episodes 1-3 were his alone... and they broke fans' hearts. I wasn't kidding about what I said above... I don't consider anything in Phantom, Clones, or Revenge to be lore - but really bad fanfic written by somebody who doesn't understand the setting or characters very well.

I've really lost all interest in Star Wars in the past decade. I just hope this will bring back some of the love I used to have for my favorite movies growing up.

Oy Ewoks may be cute and cuddly but they do know how to do violence when they are in their element, and I think Episode 2 is my second favorite of the series next to 5. I didn't think there was anything wrong with the newer movies a little comedic relief never hurt anyone plus I'm a general Greivous fan.
