    Default Have Companions...do something!

So companions are cute and follow you around and sometimes prone to bug certain parts of the quest apparently, but I think it would be kind of cool to have a very tiny buff/helpful "diddy" they can perform to you or party members. Not enough to be overpowered, but enough to make more people buy them and make them of more use. What do you guys think? Here's some of my ideas if these were implemented, curious to see what others you all would have in mind.

    Gargoyle Companions

Magma -Adds 1d2 Fire damage to attacks
    Shadow - 2% Incorporeality Chance
    Granite - 2 DR Adamantine

    Rust Monsters

Pink Gray - Adds 1d6 Rust Damage to Critical Attacks
Regular Red -Adds 1d2 Rust Damage to attacks

    Kobolds

Shaman - Regenerate 1d2 HP per 10 seconds

    Earth Elementals

Stone - 1% Chance to Earthgrab Enemies on Attacks
Gold - 2% Chance to Earthgrab Enemies on Attacks

    MOTU Specials

Spiderling - 1% Chance to Web enemies on attacks

    Wolf Pups

Anything like 1-2% Chance to trip opponent on attacks
    or
    Adds 5% (stackable) run speed

    Special

    Wraith - 5% Incorporeality Chance
Gelatinous Cube - 2% Chance to Engulf Enemies on-being attacked

    What do you guys think?

It's an interesting idea, but it could create many more bugs when the pets are no longer cosmetics. They will take over the world.

Won't like them to add to skills or combat, that's the realm of familiars and they risk death.
It'd be good however if they could help in minor ways.

    Ideas may vary:
You can make them sit in a spot they may be good as markers.
They should be able to turn when seeing approaching creatures, like all other helper creatures do.
It'd be really good if they could pick up all the coins that drop from barrels.
Maybe let them use a pot on you, that'd be useful when disabled.
Perhaps they can make you friendly to monsters of their own kind
Or let them be a clicky to summon a creature of their own kind.

No thanks. They are "cosmetic" only as intended. I personally don't like them and as a min-maxer don't want to feel "obligated" to use them.

That pretty much sums up my feelings.

The OP is pretty much suggesting a new equipment slot, one that is mostly filled with store bought only items. Even though they are not bound and can still be sold on the AH and traded, they are still purchased from the DDO store first.

Some of the cooler ones can be earned through Monster Manual, so it would give min-maxers something extra to work for after obtaining all their epic gear.

I personally feel that if Turbine suddenly made cosmetic pets "Do something" that would be tantamount to lying to the player base, right to their face.

    You mean the Wraith?

    http://www.ddo.com/ddostorelimitedrelease

Yep - Kill 7000 Wraiths in game - At least two people have already done this {forum threads, Screenshots and all}.
    OR Spend 295 TP!

    Really!

The grind for that Wraith Companion was insane before {and I applaud the people who actually did it} BUT NOW?

Nice ideas but I wish they would break out familiars first. I know Rangers need their pets and Arties need their metal dogs but my wizzie is waiting for her Imp or Quasit and no not the cosmetic kind. I want a familiar I can send threw a dungeon ive never been in and scout (kinda like wizard eye) I want to risk the danger of stat drain when they die. I wont lie I like my pets I have a few of them even decorated the little schmucks but I am dying for Kal to finally get herself a true familiar (oh and a pointy wizards hat **** you Elminster!)

The idea that cosmetic pet should have some sort of in-game positive effect foor their owners has been brought up several times before. And i am just as vehemently against it now as i was then.

Cosmetic pets should never have any ingame advantage, other than being fun to look at or play with. They should have exactly as much impact as Armor Kits and Hair Dye.

Now, the idea of a familiar, who would functionally act similarly to a cosmetic pet, be available only to Sorc/Wizards, and give really tiny bonuses (like 5 HP, or +1 reflex save, or +3 spot) is an idea I could get behind.

If the DDO store sells any "pets" that affect gameplay, they should be either hirelings (a-la Wonderous Figurine) or Summons (A-la Shard of Xoriat).

And hats. And masks. oh wait, nevermind...

But generally I agree, any item that doesn't take up an item slot shouldn't have an ingame effect (to prevent some responses: I have bought the MotU CE preorder, so I have *that* mask).

No. The only mandatory 'trick' they should know is how to be invisible to others.

Someone dont get the idea of "cosmetic" of pets.

Otherwise i demand that haricuts have a chance to:
    - Stun with my beaty
    - Scare of enemies with Mohawk
    - Seduce them and trigger the charm monster effect.

Much better idea is introduce a familiars as both Sorc/Wiz perk and chosable feat. (as long as you have some magic)

Oh please...just an idea would be kind of cool imo. Calm yourselves.

I can't find the post, but a while back when someone else was suggesting that pets do something. another idea came up, a "Pet Arena" where players could battle their pets to placate their PvP urge, or at the very least, at least give people something to do with their pets, in an interactive away.

The idea was that a d20 was rolled for both sides, Highest Wins.

That way, while they can't do anything quest worthy, we as players can do something with them.

    NO.

    Not signed.

    Never will sign.

If they get to do something then so should armour kits, hair styles and hair dyes.

That is all I am gonna say about that.
