Smile DDOGamer: What if you could fill a party with six of your own characters?

I know. A big change, and one that will make it even harder to get groups.

But DDOGamer can still dream, right?

Well, actually..... I've seen a few people do this already. A couple old laptops, and your main gaming rig is all you need ^_^

I would have to PUG anyways... because I don't even have six characters (yet).

You don't need multiple machines to do this, you need multiple accounts however. I quad box on the same machine... I have run a full 6 at the same time too but I just don't have enough desktop space to view all 6 at the same time and still have enough space for toolbars...

I wrote a script to accomplish this complete with a GUI to make it easy. I've been debating releasing it to the community but I'm unsure how it'll be accepted. It saves the passwords locally unless you tell it not to (but still asks for them each time you run the script), but I could see people having issues with typing in passwords into a script they didn't write... Also, due to real life, I have really restricted time to work on it, so if people have issue, I'm not sure how much time I'd be able to devote to it to fix it.

While my script only automates logging into DDO, the game doesn't have much to help you control multiple characters. Other games I've played have a /follow command that would be invaluable in multiboxing.

Hawkeye is insane...truly...with the multi-boxing and we in Loreseekers are in awe of his multiboxing prowess.

Now, to the other questions, about a party of all our own characters? If they were mine...that's a whole lotta soulstones...

But you might be able to use one toon to grab a soulstone and run closer to the shrine before getting smoked again only to use another to get even closer? (I'll admit I've had to do this

I changed my DDO options back to staying minimized in the tray. That way, once I start them up for the first time after a computer restart, I don't have to worry about the whole "DDO is already running, bring to the front" stuff when I'm starting up more accounts.

This is the best tip. Before I found that out, I ran into many problems running things on all the different computers.

I've tried up to four CC/healbot clerics on four servers at once. It wasn't fun. It could be if the party is aware and wait for your attention during dangerous encounters.

I've had some fun running two clerics through different quests if the party is not in zerg mode.

OMG it would be my dream team for sure

    1. Kalari on crowd control killing stuff with her pale mastery goodness
    2. Her sister cleric Kamari taking down trash and healing the occasional boo boo
    3. Euphro spell singing for both of them and getting down traps.
    4. Nyxy backing up the trap getting (depending on quest or raid) and pounding on enemies
    5. Kahayla intimidating the enemy off Nyxy holding aggro so she can cut em down laying hands if needed.
    6. Kazelyn to bring out raw damage and help intimidate if needed

Wed be a menace and since I have 24 alts I could actually raid with all my girls lol doubles in melee, healers, bards, specialists who can do many tasks makes this something that would be awesome!

6-man? Been there, done that. I'm working on filling an entire raid as soon as Turbine implements that /follow command!
Perryc/Pyxie/Aerryc/Gjornn and a 'few' others. Xoriat forged and Officer of Archangels.

Hehe. I can't imagine the number of hotbars and clicks you'd need to manage. It could be fun if the dungeon has a choose "your high lag constant" mode to make it almost equivalent to a turn based game.

You can just solo or dual while carrying the other soulstones if needed. I'd start with the easy ones where not much running is required like ADQ2 and Abbot (might need another person to help especially with goggles )

You running from the same install or multiple installs? I run them all from one copy of DDO. Either way, easiest way to open multiple copies is to change the launcher's window name.

I'm currently doing multiple installs. Some of the people I've talked to doing multiple runs from the same install complain about long loading screens, and I wanted to rule that out.

And I'm not hurting for disc space in any way.

meh, I've often wondered if it would be a good ViP perk to be allowed to pull out one of your other characters (same account) as a hireling.

This is basically how games like Knights of the Old Republic and Baldur's Gate work, with you controlling a whole D&D party. Those are turn-based, though (kind of), and kind of require either frequent pausing to give commands, or relying on AI to carry out general tasks.

Not sure we could play a real time game, like DDO, where we would have to control more than one character. Movement would be a nightmare, unless characters not being currently controlled simply followed the leader (not something you'd always want to happen in DDO). Targeting and using abilities would require 10 hands and a million hotbars. Finally, there would be no good way to spread out the characters.

    That would be cool.

Also give us the tools to assign basic AI, and which actions the characters take. I'm no programmer, so the level of complexity I'm familiar with for this type of thing rises to about FF XII, where you could do things like:

    1. Heal ally using Curaga if ally <50% HP.
    2. Remove status X, with spell Y.
    3. Enemy >90% HP, attempt to Steal.
    4. Attack target with HP <20%
    5. Attack closest target.

Something like that would be pretty cool.

    My paladin as a hireling:
Usable abilities (4): Intimidate, Lay On Hands, Smite Evil, Divine Righteousness

    Gear: currently equipped
Activated effects: Combat Expertise, Quicken, Maximize

Actions: (buffing actions only occur if the target does not currently have that buff)

    1. If ally less than or equal to 15% HP, use LoH.
    2. If self below 20% HP, use LoH.
    3. Restoration
    4. Remove Disease
    5. Divine Favor
    6. Zeal
    7. Divine Might
    8. Divine Sacrifice nearest enemy> 90% HP.
    9. Attack neared enemy > 90% HP.
    10. Divine Sacrifice nearest enemy.
    11. Attack nearest enemy.
    12. Death Ward (hits party one at a time, starting with summoner, self, others)

He'd offer automatic, big emergency healing, but infrequently, could keep himself up, cures a few conditions on himself and the party, buffs himself for combat, attacks enemies you and your party probably haven't engaged (ie., those he has intimidated).

Yes, I'd like a hireling with 150+ HP, 150+ PRR, 1,000+ HP, 50+ saves, that can self-heal for 400+, heal anyone else instantly for 300-400+ (depending on healing amp), and can aggro basically anything with intimidate and Divine Righteousness + worn Incite gear.

I know I could not control 1 main and 6 alts to play this game, but the idea of making a party of my own toons is scary, because I know how gimp my alts are.

Well, maybe not, it would make me feel a tad justified that I capped a divine, arcane, and melee tho

It might finally get me to push a divine past level 7...doubtful though.

Oh! So to add to my expanding on the idea of our alts as hirelings, there should be a new command to swap control, leaving whoever you were just playing as in hireling mode.

And after this sees Live, the LFM panel becomes a ghost town for anything that isn't a raid.
