Yeah, a horse wouldn't work very well in Rushmore.

Why not? The passages and doors are wide enough for an elephant, let alone a horse.

Honestly, once you get familiar enough with the maps/develop personal methods that work for you, most of them give very nice reward amounts.

Except kobold island. #(*$&#ing kobold island.
I find I get more out of colossal crystals solo than opening it up for random people to join for the "fun" of it. I find something wrong with that.

If I'm in a full group that all have soloed the challenge successfully, THEN it becomes an enjoyable experience. The problem occurs when you get characters that are reliant on group dynamics to succeed because they struggle to pull their own weight when the group has to split up.

It is not to say that they should make colossal crystals more challenging to do that it cannot be done without a party, but challenges in general should be more rewarding in a group

Group ingredient bonus would be a step in the right direction. Pity ingredients recieved when you have a full group and made an effort would help too

The reality of the challenges is that more than almost any other content in the game, the challenges scale with player skill and knowledge very heavily.

If you are not very skilled or do not know the challenges very well it is entirely possible to spend a ton of time in a challenge and get little out of it, or even fail.

The problem is that with such scaling rewards the Devs have to decide where to set the scale - if they make it so lower skilled / knowledgeable players can get good rewards, the better players will be recieving unreasonable levels of payout. Of course, the reverse is also true and the current situation - while high end players are receiving good rewards, thats at the cost of newer players being shafted.

The only real solution would be for turbine to decide what they actually want the rewards to be and then make the scale much more limited - something like baseline rewards and xp around 3 star and then it is only +- 5% per star above or below. The problem there is that it does not encourage players putting in effort and you will just see people do the bare minimum and then AFK the rest of the challenge.

    . . . Never mind. . .

Most of the challenges are too bad. The Rushmore ones are a bit of a pain. The Kobold Island ones kinda suck though once you take into account the abysmal ingredient percentage.
