DDOGamer: Haggle is important! Or is it?

It might not be feasible to buy the hard to get items anymore but haggle is def a way for the have-nots to have. I personally don't spend 10+ hours playing and looting but my ability to have enough supplies and keep my toons sufficiently stocked is attributed to my haghlebot. At level 21 he's sitting at 94.

IMO the time spent dealing with hagglebotting or even just running around to brokers is better spent just doing another quest. You get more loot=>plat and XP at the same time.

I rarely remember to put on a haggle item (or hit a skill boost) and I have learned that it takes a huge pile of stuff to sell for it to be worth using a heroism pot or GH scroll.

For a first lifer yes doing a bit of running around will pay some dividends but really even then most time would be best spent questing.

As to the question .....the economy has an abundance of plat but a shortage of unique non-BTA items thus those items get driven way up in price. That's economics for you.....and it does make hagglebotting even less fruitful.

As an example - my most recent TR - started with about 150k in the bank - I buy a few low level items in the AH if I forget to get all my twink items....then a bunch is spent on consumables. By the time I hit 10th level I may have been down10-20k but by the time I hit 20 I was well above 200k......no haggle skill no running around - just questing and looting.

If new players want easy plat - sell collectibles and essences (assuming they aren't crafting). At 200-350plat (trade vs. AH at 500-35% fee) each essence you can stack up a pile of plat in no time.

I cherished my haggler for years. But since the Cannith crafting system came in, I deconstruct anything that does not end up on the Auction House. Deconstruction now gives you a platinum return on your broken down item, so there's less reason to visit the brokers.

The game has changed on the buying end, too. If you have access to a discounted guild potion and scroll vender in House K, your buying power with a dumb 0 haggle character is nearly the same as a devoted hagglebot. And you don't have to muck around sending it across the mail or shared bank.

Many of the other high-cost potions are bound to character, such as yugoloth potions and silver flame potions.

The haggler was deleted, and I don't miss it. Except for parading around town in silly robes.

Hmm. My whole Haggle run takes 2 minutes, I know this because my 2 min CHA skills potion is still ticking down when I'm finished. I do however use teleport scrolls so that's not exactly new player friendly. Still, you can get a reasonable haggle score on a level 4/7 bard, and having a single repository for plat across your characters can be good. I suppose it depends how much time you put in to it. I've got mine to 17 by pugging and trying to be a useful buffer/healer. As for GH/action boost clicky differences, it's a case of 'every little helps' I guess.

For me what really killed haggle was the change to weapon values. For a long time items with a 75K+ price did better with a good haggle than with a deconstruct (ie - on average the you got more plat on sale than the then market value for the ingredients+plat you got on decon). Once all the weapon values were cut in half... Not too much in the heroic levels really worth selling to a broker anymore.

Yup, this definately as well. Supplies was a big item. Heck, there was a time I made plat acting as a broker for others that needed big stacks of heal scrolls and the like.

I think the days of the haggle bot are dead, except for new players where it still probably makes sense.

You use a Cha skill potion, 2-3 teleport scrolls (mktplace, house d, house k...). It probably pays off for you only in large batches. Which means you aren't counting the time it takes to mail/bank all the sellables to your hagglebot, picking and sorting it as you go etc...swap characters, unload bank/mail zip around etc....2min is just from first sale to last sale after all this other . I would say all the other stuff is 10-15min minimum. Nearly enough time to run a full high chest quest like Irestone, Von3, 5xRusted Blades etc....now if you are doing this while waiting for a pug to fill it's dead time anyway and more power to you but for me its' FO/Sell/Repair/NextQuestChain rinse and repeat .
