    Default Help with my Drogue build

    Hi. I'm attempting to come up with a build that combines the tanking aspect of the Druid Bear form with the evasion of the Rogue. Why? Just for fun. For some reason I have this urge to make a bear tank. I already came up with a Drunk version, but am not entirely satisified with its AC and PRR. Since the Rogue has evasion but can also wear light armor and shields I'm going to test it out and see if it ends up tougher.

    Basic goals for this build: A druid bear tank with useable evasion and as much HP/AC/PRR as I can get. Made self sufficient by Druid spells.

    Notes: Trap skills are NOT essential but I figured if I'm going to get the INT to use Combat Expertise I might as well dip into traps. I'm sure my skill point allocations are not ideal as they stand, though. Yes, there's a +3 int tome that I'm not married to; its there mostly to make my int even. I suppose I could drop the dex down and start int at 12, giving me 14 with a +2 tome. But then my reflex suffers...

    Thoughts: I feel a little light on feats. The monk build benefits a lot from the monk combat feats, but the only extra feat I get here is from the 1 level of fighter. I had considered briefly making this a dex build for easier evasion and some more defense, but the lack of feats pretty much closes the door on that (if it even would have been viable in the first place). Also I spend three feats on the Druid doublestrike feat, not sure if all of those are necessary.

    Anyway, help! This build stretches kind of thin for a first lifer (I do have a monk I could TR into this build I suppose).

    Well why not 20 WF Sorc?

    I need at least 8 druid for Dire Bear (I want to be a bear). I don't care if you call it a theme build or a flavor build or what have you, but I would like to keep the bear.

    Outside of that, I can't see a reason why not change the level amount. My initial thought was at least 8th level Druid spells for Heal. I'm certainly willing to entertain ideas for altering the classes and levels, but I need a reason

    If the rogue splash is just for Evasion, why not go monk instead? You don't lose Evasion from being uncentered, so you can still use lt armor + shield; and gain two feats you need.

    FWIW, I just started a bear tank who plans to go druid 13 / ftr 6 / wiz 1 (NW II / SD I). No Evasion, obviously, and only lvl 7 spells; felt I need the feats more. The goal is to wear Black Dragonplate (IIUC druids can wear dragonscale w/out losing their abilities); not sure what to do for epics yet (if I get that far).

    Anyway, be interesting to see which approach works better.
    Semi-retired Build Engineer. Everything was better back in our day. Get off my lawn.

    I think I went with rogue for the synergy with having to have 13 int for combat expertise and trap skills, and also to differentiate it from my Drunk build.

    If you don't mind me asking, why 1 Wiz? Just for 5 min level 1 buffs?

    Wow that's a heck of a lot of feats. I'm thinking of throwing an extra fighter level in my build ... possibly even more. I'd like to able to keep Heal though. That's 15 druid right there, and 2 rogue for evasion, leaves 3 for fighter. 3 fighter isn't very helpful, though. Rogue 3 isnt helpful either, not for a tank build at least. Druid 16 doesnt give much either, besides another 8th level spell slot.

    Now that I think about it though, another level 8 slot might be helpful. I think I'll try it out this:


    1:Rogue 1- Toughness (Gen), Stunning Blow (HB)
    2: Druid 1
    3: Druid 2 - Shield Mastery
    4: Druid 3
    5: Druid 4
    6: Druid 5 - Empower Healing / Maximize
    7: Druid 6
    8: Druid 7
    9: Druid 8 - Combat Expertise
    10: Druid 9
    11: Rogue 2
    12: Fighter 1 - Natural Fighting 1 (Gen), Imp. Crit. Bludgeoning (FB)
    13: Druid 10
    14: Druid 11
    15: Fighter 2 - Natural Fighting 2 (Gen), Imp. Shield Mastery (FB)
    16: Druid 12
    17: Druid 13
    18: Druid 14 - Natural Fighting 3
    19: Druid 15
    20: Druid 16

    I think that looks ok. I took out Augment Summoning and Power Attack. They don't really help the build as is, I don't think.

    Since I'll be using a shield, the shield mastery feats seem like no brainers, especially when combined with the Natural Fighting doublestrike. Add that to the doublestrike from Unyielding Sentinel, and I figure I'll be getting quite a few. Is there any gear I could get that would give me even more doublestrike? I've never looked into it.

    Now I just need to figure out what to take for feats at 21 and 24...

    Yeah, I'm basically throwing a lot into making a weak DPS build less weak: 5 feats to boost my doublestrike by 29% (NF x3, SM&ISM), another 5 into PA/CL/GC/IC:B/OC.

    I belatedly realized Heal's a lvl 8 druid spell vs lvl 7 for clerics; but still decided that the extra feats & tanking bonuses from SD I were more important, given the intended goal of this build is to be a tank first, caster second. Apart from Heal, there aren't any good bear spells past lvl 7; Unstoppable, like Bladesworn Transformation, is a trap, because you can't be healed while using it.
    Add that to the doublestrike from Unyielding Sentinel, and I figure I'll be getting quite a few.
    Errr, what doublestrike? I've skimmed US's wiki page and don't see any mention of doublestrike bonuses, but would love for it to turn out I just overlooked them.
    Is there any gear I could get that would give me even more doublestrike?

    Swashbuckler is out (metal shield) and obviously you can't use a greataxe (Hellstroke) + shield, but everything else is an option.

    Yeah I think I just assumed that the Legendary Shield Mastery destiny ability did a similar thing to the SM feats, but it just gives PRR. Oh well still useful I guess.

    I'm going to try it with the 8th level spells and see how it goes.

    Now that I look at it in game though ... Legendary Shield Mastery does say it gives 2% doublestrike at rank 1 ...

    This bears (ha!) further investigation.

    Edit: I found it. Update 14 patch 1 has this line:

    ◦Unyielding Sentinel Legendary Shield Mastery now properly grants 2%, 4%, and 7% doublestrike.

    So I'm not losing my mind!!
