1, i live on top of a mountain, we have a metric &%&$load of rain, fog and mist
2, i ride a motorcycle (see point 1) and i have discovered that nothing feasible is truly water prof at 60+Km/h
3, i work as a dish pig, complete with high pressure hose

so yea, i think we can safley assume there is a "moistness issue" :P

you haven't seen the mobile phone sitting under my desk.

It's Big ( definitely, the size of a small suitcase )
It's Heavy ( definitely, the weight of a loaded small suitcase... several kilos )
It's Not Slippery ( it's not compatible with the first two )
It's Hydrophobic ( well you can't really use it outside while it rains, unless you want to kill it )
It's definitely NOT Fragile ( it's not compatible with the size and weight )
and It never lived in a pocket ( again a compatibility problem )

But IT is a mobile phone.


Edit : Oh, and you can only make phone calls with it... No internet, no MMS, no camera, ...

Its better to have a holster for a smart phone. Your wife likely kept her phone in her purse. I'm sure you can find some good weather resistant holsters.

It can probably be used as a hammer.
I can't vouch for the continued ability to phone with it if you use it that way, but it will definitely do the job.

Until you find a permanent solution, you can always just carry it in a ziploc bag. A bit inconvenient, since you have to take it out of the bag to use it, but at least it solves the moisture issue while you're out in the weather.

OK...you win with point 2. I've ridden a bike for many years...and even with wet weather gear I know you get off the bike and wonder "how the heck did I get wet THERE?!?!"

Some people just don't need their phone to do much more than make/receive phone calls. I resisted getting a smart phone for a loooooong time for that very reason. I used my previous phone to make calls and send texts exclusively. I can now add Facebook and Internet access to that list. I probably only use a fraction of my phone's potential, and a lot of people just can't justify the expense of getting a smart phone just so they can get Facebook notifications in their pocket.

I don't own one. I don't want one. Aside from the inconvenience of reading glasses required for me to see the screen, I don't carry launch codes and have no reason to be in 24/7 contact with the rest of the world. I've always viewed mobiles in general more as an infinite tether than a prerogative.

To the OP: My wife knitted a carrying bag for hers in the shape of a squid. I find watching it eat most amusing.

Agreed.. But... my internet access is faster on my phone and my phone takes better pic's than all the camera's I own!

I do miss my very small flip phone tho, barely even knew it was in my pocket and the battery would last almost a week. Now I carry a small tv around and have to charge it every 2 days at best......

Hit up your local cell carrier store, Otter(tm) has some
great waterproof cell phone cases that are also very shock
Resistant as well.

I have to admit, I have become quite attached to my I-Phone.

This is how I used to feel. I didn't necessarily have anything against smart phones, I just didn't "get" why people were so enamored with them.

Then my wife got a job with Sprint and we were given free smart phones and unlimited data. Now I don't remember how I lived without one.
