    Chai will love/hate this one.

DDO is like a 1990s model Honda with 300,000 miles on it. If you can deal with the strange sounds, rattles, certain things not working and the constant repair work/costs, it'll still get you around. Should we get a newer model? Hell ya. Is this current model dead? Nope, not as long as they keep fixing it and adding more aftermarket parts. =-D

DDO 2.0 would not be about totally new code. The "spaghetti code" remarks are just interoffice bickering about different coding styles, and there are more people working on the code now, most likely.

DDO 2.0 would be about new content and a new character database. The code would contain a lot of the same-old stuff from the same-old engine builds. I'm sure DDO inherited quite a bit of stuff from Asheron's Call.

So, this is basically just a thread wanting a whole bunch more content and for everyone to get put on equal footing with a new character database (something that is sure to LOSE Turbine a TON of money).

    Nothing to see here.

I think the core team is more than aware of the unique value of the DDO combat system, and wouldn't think of even trying to downgrade the combat system of a 2.0 to anything WoW/LOTRO-like.

I may not always get involved in the conversations around the Gen Con party table, but I listen a lot. The Powers that are driving the bus are not deaf/blind, even if the suits in the front office may be.

Also, DDO is not the only game out now with live combat, so it's not like everyone is still copying WoW combat. (Fallen Earth, as an example.)

Or an entirely new game, that has nothing to do with DDO other than the fact that it has the name DDO. Like EQ2 - which is basically WOW with an EQ graphics shell on it.

The game is far from Dead.

However, if the influx of funds and players is to be believed, a DDO2 in the works, or planned, might be a better choice then to try and rework the "Spaghetti Monster of Code" (MadFloyd's phrasing) that DDO is, and simply build a better, more streamlined game code, so that additions and improvements do not cause such conflicts as they are now.

Given the success that DDO has, and one of the larger Turn offs was the Ebberon Campaign Setting, since they have the Rights now to to Forgotten Realms, they could just start there and grab an even larger player base of DnD fans.

There is a lot to be said about the advantages of a DDO2, but, none the less, DDO is so far removed from Dead it's growing.
As Yogi Berra once said, "Nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."

I think this is the crux of the issue. All the oldtimers (some of, I should say) stopped playing when DDO started making changes to encourage more and more players. The old DDO is dead, but I don't think the game we play is dying. It IS DDO2. Epic destinies are not even kinda DDO, or PnP 3.5, nor is the grind, mechanics or anything else. It's a totally new DDO. And that sent a lot of people packing, though it brought a lot more.

So, nobody plays this game anymore, there are too many people playing, is an apt paradox, IMO.

Also, the reason I quoted Ungood is he made a decent point about the code. DDO was never supposed to be this big, support this many people, or go past level 20. It simply wasn't designed that way. Or to have crafting in its various forms (or PvP, but it still doesn't )

All these additions really show like what they are, last minute additions. And so much is unfinished too, just happenstance ideas thrown out never fully developed.

So much potential, if they were to do it from scratch it would be amazing. But building on this 'flying spagetti monster' is causing havok to the code, bug list, and lag.

OMG, the lag last night was so bad, I decided to download SWTOR instead. Maybe see if DDO really is the best game out there (I know it is, but I'm thinking of taking a month break or so, 'til U16 and its promised Enhancement pass, which I'm sure won't come).

Enhancements, BTW, looking like Destiny trees, should help some of this apparent problems with how things just don't seem to mesh in game. So many different mechanics, it would be nice if leveling to 20 looked the same as leveling from 20-25.

Like I said, it really IS a different game from 20-25.

This. When you introduce microtransactions into a game and balance content with that in mind, it ensures that you cannot ever make a successful sequel or "next generation" of the current game. Reason being that people already poured a LOT of money into the old game so they simply won't transition to a new one from the same company. If they can't have their old benefits, they'll find another company to give their money to.

    Default Right.

The game needs a huge Graphics change to EVERYTHING even if it takes a year to do it, in order to keep up with competitors and it, the Game, is too complacent, I think it will fail to think about this and in the long run Graphics will wreck this game, and will fail unless it does the right thing and does a major change to Graphics even if it means most of us will need a new computer to do this (play the game). We have outlasted long enough to play a game that has 2012 technology, yet computers that are outdated that support lame graphics and to put it niceley the Dev's need to mean about this to save the game.

The game feels like its on life support, not really dead and I don't see it going anywhere soon but it definitely had better days, hopefully they'll release a few updates with great content and some more people will come back. The new raid being such a bore and just failed potential couldn't have done them any favors, then add on top of that the ridiculous drop rate of the new raid items, one can only wonder how much better they would be doing if we had a fun raid like the shroud, minus the portal part of course.

Really? Did you just say what I think you said? When the biggest problem with the game is lag and bugs, you want to make a graphics change???

The fact is, I would stop playing this game immediately if they upgraded the graphics, simply because I can barely play it now, and I simply don't have the money to get a new graphics card, much less a whole computer. Would turbine rather see my money go towards a graphics card or to turbine's pockets?

Also, turning the games graphics up to max will make it look awesome from my perspective. How about you turn your graphics settings down to the absolute minimum for a month, then turn them back up?

    Oh my god this.
Although I feel a bit of "abused wife" syndrome when it comes to DDO. I've been with it so long it feels normal to be abused, and have new glitches every few weeks.

Not sure I'd go that far as to say its destroyed, the guild is still there, and IMO in a much better place than it was prior to my stepping down.

Not sure why you are so hot and heavy Boldor. I ran it for far longer than you were a member, and I think the majority would agree, I didn't do to bad a job. I no longer enjoy DDO, so started the transition to new leadership, which is in place, with the guild still going strong, and man, the drama is at an all time low.

As rocky as it may have felt, things are nice and calm now, and honestly, those that left just made the transition that much easier. You wanted something the guild wasn't offering. Haters will hate though, so hate me if ya like, no skin off my back, your just another pixel on my screen

Sorry for the derail, so I'll lay my opinion again, DDO is alive and still going strong, it won't disappear for quite a while as it has a passionate player base. I'm just not one of them anymore.
