    Default Graphics Card Question

    Hello everyone,

Not sure if i should put this here, i suppose it's a general thing....Was going to stick it in technical support, but it sorta doesn't apply there either, as nothing is wrong with DDO....so, i'll put it here and someone can move it if need be.

So, my graphics card, a http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desk...eforce-gtx-295, is starting to get really warm. There's also some flickering and tearing going on. She's worked really hard the last couple years and it's time to upgrade a bit...

I'm wanting to come back, and i'm looking to replace this card with at least something comparable to it, if not mebbe a little bit better, on a budget of about 150-200 ish dollars. I want to get it from Newegg as that's where i get all my stuff from.

I guess my real question is, can you replace any graphics card with just about any other graphics card as long as it fits in the pc 2 slot? Other than it fitting in the case itself of course....

Intel core i7 cpu @ 3.20 ghz, 12.0 gb ram...is the rest of it that might be important...

I like nvidia so i'd like to stay with them, even tho they run hot, but just turn the fan up a bit...

If someone would answer the the big question i need answered above, mebbe throw in some opinions to get some different perspective on choices, link a few ideas (i was looking at the 550 and 560 ti's...1 and 2 gb variations...

let me know what you guys think, this community has always had a solid grasp on the tech...

    thanks,

    coming back soon for good,

    R

I think the Tom's Hardware article on best graphics cards September 2012 in the $160-240 range has your answer.
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ew,3107-4.html
Answer is: NVidia GeForce GTX 560 for $170

Note: The other important info needed for your computer is power supply. This will crush the video card you had before and can easily handle DDO, but it is 160W. Check your power supply capability and you may need a molex power adapter for the card - probably two 6 pin connectors. Will also need good ventilation - probably two case slots with one just for cooling.

I have a GeForce GTX 460 and every few months I get little artifacts similar to what you describe. I find pulling the card out, blowing air through the heatsink to clear any dust, and cleaning the contacts solves the problem. It's the first time I've had a card that was this sensitive to even a tiny amount of dust (case has filters so almost nothing gets on the card itself).

I've had similar problems in the recent past, coming with Update 15.

I'm planning to buy a new card in early October.

Since my buget is somewhat restrained, I just cannot invest much. Therefore I'm currently leaning towards either an GTX 650 or an HD 7770.
Other than that I'm also thinking about an GTX 550 Ti, if I can get one.
And these cards are already heavily scratching at my budget limit.
    But I'm still undecided.

And yes, cleaning them at least once per year is important.

I am looking an NVIDA 550Ti myself. Actually the generic version, (Evga 550TI 2Gb)
On thing to remember: take a look at your power supply
As well. Make sure it's up to snuff. I checked mine out and I'm
Going to need to upgrade that as well.

I linked my system above just to be sure, it has an 800w power supply, that should be more than enough yes? or is there something else it may or may not need that i need to look at?

800w power supply should be fine.
