Old news...read that article over a year ago, experienced the effect for years when I used to play runescape...Runescape, WoW, Diablo and a few other games have been infected by gold farmers and botters for years...as long as people are willing to RWT there will always be this problem in a game.

Most prisoners aren't in there for political reasons that we, in the west, find sympathetic. I think the guy featured in that article was 'allowed' to farm because of the non-violent nature of the crimes alleged against him.

I certainly hope the violent criminals are not afforded that kind of 'luxury' in prison.

No, they make the lead-coated toys that are on every shelf in Toys R Us and Wally World.

The real political prisoners; you know students, teachers, anyone who thinks they should have things like freedom of speech and open internet, end up in the slave labor camps working forges and foundries.

I agree, things like this are a real shame.

At the same time, I respect China for giving victims real justice. You rip off people for 2 Billion dollars in China, you get death. In North America, you're not even charged. You're allowed to resign and retire to the Caymans.

China is so Cyberpunk, like the early '80s SF-Guys thought the West would end.

We're working on it, just google the NDAA, signed into law in December of 2011. Specifically gives the US Government permission to indefinitely imprison and torture anyone who disagrees with them, simply by declaring them to be terrorists.

It's a simple economic step to start using the death camps as work camps.

Why would it? If people want to trade money for in-game currency or items, they can already do it. Plenty of details in the server trade sections of the forums. Why risk getting banned by using a third-party when Turbine doesn't try to stop the currently used method?

Turbine did so something about this. I remember when I first started playing I had come from a Korean MMO called Mu. This game had every area littered with general chat www jdskjf;fhlsf BUY MY GOLD.com It was horrible, but it was everywhere and I just got used to it. When I came to ddo day one saw the exact same thing and even got some mail that said www xxxxxxxxxbuygold com

Now the amazing thing is after a month or so it vanished. I hadn't seen a single gold farming thread or anything like it for literally years until one day a few months back I saw a big spam of them in the harbour, then once again they mysteriously vanished.

Turbine has, is, and will be dealing with these guys rapidly.

I've seen a gold spammer in June or Juli; it has vanished after reporting it.

Good that DDO has a "report spammer" thing built-in.

I took a screenshot of one of the I think they were 5 spammers, all in the Harbouir, nowhere else : This one looked like a female from Korthos, wearing nothing but the rags and a weapon, and standing at the "post office".

This means that the real person behind that didn't even bother with the quests to get as soon as possible into the Harboir; from that perspective, Korthos itself acts like some kind of filter, too. Plus the rather complex process of character creation.

Either that, or it was a veteran player who just needed some more bank space
    Sounds like patriot act stuff...

Also, it's sociologically interesting: what one man considers (and is) slavery and abuse, others consider a playing marathon, or a normal night.

I would have never consider running the same series of quests for the same chest(s) again and again for 100+ times fun or even a normal night.

I have never done it in my 6+ years of DDO.

You know those criminals that held up in the Maine prisons back in the 1800s? They have 2+ pounds lobsters every night. What we have considered a delicacy and enjoyment was considered punishment as there were plenty of lobsters and plenty of cholesterol from those lobsters. Prisoners that retired early from too much cholesterol could skip the e-chair.

Of course, for health reasons we have 1.25 pound chicken lobsters every once a few months or a year.

Quite a few "aware" and critical thinkers here.
Must be a prerequisite for gaming.

Information is key to survival in this day and age IMO...with so much change happening in the western world, drones flying over US airspace, Canada losing its seat on the UN security council for the first time, Steven Harper selling out Canada to corporate greed are just a few concerning examples of what our governments are doing these days...it's just a matter of time before North America falls into third world status because of human rights issues and collapsing economies.

    http://seekingalpha.com/article/3095...country-part-1

In fact having travelled to south east asia a few times in the last couple of years and seeing for my own eyes how things are out there...I am actually considering moving and retiring to the Philippines in about 10 years simply because at least there my accumulated wealth will be worth 40x what it's worth here in Canada, lower taxation, more buying power, no property taxes, and economic conditions will be almost the same as what you find here....not to mention NO SNOW !!!!

Heck my Filipina wife and I may bail even sooner than that if our house is finished by then.

I read an article some years back about syndicates in Japan and South Korea that hired younger folks, mostly makes in their late teens to early twenties, to play online games. Their purpose was either to farm in-game currency or items or level up accounts, either/all of which were then sold on various auction sites (including, at the time, eBay, though they have long-since banned the practice is the developer of the game does not expressly permit it). While the leaders of the syndicates pocketed the big bucks, the worker bees made almost nothing....as in a dollar or two for a 12- to 16-hour day. China seems late to the party.
In an election, always vote for the candidate who likes big butts....because, you know, they cannot lie.
