Default Oi you, computer smart ppl, I need help!

Hello fellow ddo gamers, I have some major problems with my windows 7 at the
moment. It's so bad that I can't play ddo and pretty much use my computer at all.

My resolution changed when I turned off my computer like any other night before bed and
I can't get any screen during the start up of windows 7, my screen is in standby mode during
    the startup.

Right now im sitting at a resulotion around 640x480 or less, the absolute worst setup possible. I can
barely type this message cause everything is sooo zoomed in.

I have tried to update my graphic software but still no difference, I am using a program called
Catalyst and never had any problems with it before...

Any ideas, I am very bad at computers

Looks like your video card isn't working. Do you have another one that you can replace it by to test whether it's broken?

    Hey mate,
yep, sounds as your video card is broken.
Usually mainboards have an own video slot, too (at least VGA - the blue one )
So for a start try to connect your monitor to that one so you can use Windows in a proper resolution, ddo will run poorly on it though.

If that works take a look in your hardware manager and see what it shows at your video card (does it have the correct driver?).
Try update the driver (you can download it from the ATi website). You may be lucky but from what your saying my guess would be the hardware is just broken.

    Question

    Graphics card overheating ?
"You are a Tiefling. And a Cleric, with the Domain of the Sun. Doesn't that contradict each other ?" "No, all my friends are playing evil. I found that so boring that I decided to be on the good side. And, besides, Sun and Fire, where is the difference, really ?"

Might be graphics card but not neccessarily, provide some more information please:

    - Model of Graphic card
    - Version of Catalyst
    - Connectiontype to Monitor: Hdmi, VGA, DVI, Displayport etc
    - native monitor resolution

Yes they have been having problems with that resetting. Right click o. Screen and go to the resolution selection and check what the adjustments say on there. Might just keep getting reset lower. Other hand to try is in your task bar on the lower right hand of the screen should be your catalyst monitor display icon, right click it and shuffle through the little bars till you see one set for resolution. Should be near options for 720p and 1080p. Other option to try is go into your programs and manually find the catalyst program and search through screen, display, and I e other option, I forget what it's called offhand since not sitting in front of my computer at the moment. But there will be a solution to change screen size as well.m

If you right click the Catalyst icon on the tray you have the option to chose the resolution. Try that.

If that yields no results, I'd advise first uninstalling Catalyst and then reinstall.

In any case, the card doesn't seem to be broken, or you wouldn't be able to use it at all...

What's the card? Is it a laptop (what model) or a desktop?

Try changing your resolution like realism said. Some full screen games change your resolution automatically when you start, then switch it back when you exit. The problem comes if you end the process before it fully shuts down. Doing so means when the game data is wiped from memory and control is returned to the gui, the resolution is still what the game uses, not your usual desktop resolution. The only thing is, I don't know if DDO uses a 640x480 resolution, or if it has 800x600 as the lowest possible. Also going to check something in a bit and edit this post based on that.

EDIT: VGA (the only graphics capabilities supported for sure with bioses) support a 650x480x16 graphics setting, so a busted graphics card that con only do VGA settings might be part of the problem. Although that would probably render you unable to do hardware based 3D graphics. Anyway, before touching you graphics card, try what realism said.

    - If I did a correct check I have: ATI radeon HD 5450
    - The newest one, updated it when the problem had occured. 12.8
    - VGA
    - hmm, well I have a pretty decent monitor so I always run the highest, as I
    recall.

Anyways... I tried to plug in my tv via hdmi and it works perfectly fine...
I have no problems with it and seems to work as usual. So something
    must've happend to my monitor?

Thanks for all quick answers btw, appriciate it a lot, I am terrrrrible at these sort of stuff.

There we go one step closer to solution

can u connect your Monitor with another type of cable? maybe the hdmi or dvi? If its possible there should be one in the package of your monitor :P

Might be that the driver of the monitor got a problem, try to download the appropriate driver from the manufacturers homepage.

Ill be back 17:30 GMT+2 from work, can come TS then and give voice assisst

I can in no way change my resolution to anything higer not via control panel nor
catalyst control center. I can however do this with my television that is plugged via hdmi
for the moment. Something must be wrong with my monitor I take.
