    Default Communication

I always wonder why Turbine hasn't made a server for our Chinese subscribers or make some type of babelfish program that makes everyone commuicate better.

I find it frustraing at time when commuication ends up making the expierence
    not so fun

    instances:

Diplomatic Immunity: please come to the cliff of the beach
GOP: everyone must come to the center of the ice

*when ending the quest please wait till everyone has there voices on /stop
**was in tod raid and one was selling his ring for platt... geez i wonder what he does for a living....

I'm sure I am not the only one

My favorite is when we have a non english speaking player in the group and others think that by talking louder they will understand better LMAO

I find that most understand HASTE, so that's cool I guess? lol

The last server they made for a specific language is mostly a ghost town from what I've heard.

    Come = lai.

Also, plenty of English speaking people sell their raid loot for plat. PLENTY. Actually they often are trading Red Scales or Scrolls, so you should be happy that a person was accepting plat

I group with Chinese all the time, and have rarely found it a problem, only when there has been some kind of game bug--such as the Troll getting stuck in the wall in part 2 Shroud.

Honestly learning 3 or 4 Chinese phrases or words--is nothing compared to all the gamer lingo one has to learn.

Some of my best PUGs were with Chinese players.

Chinese players had a server, it got merged with ours way back in the day.

Most of them understand typed english so communication is usually decent.

Well, people joke that with Chinese players you get one of two sorts:

Either they are eye-poppingly amazing, or they are completely clueless. There is like no middle ground ^^ But in seriousness, foreign servers are a bad idea. There aren't enough non-English-speaking players of any nationality to have decent server activity at all times.

I generally enjoy grouping with all types of players, including the non-english speakers. It's fun when they do use voice chat, but they rarely do.

I think it's interesting to be the minority in the group, when they all speak another language. You get to feel what it's like for them when no one speaks Chinese.

The thing is, they generally know english enough to get the basics, whereas english speakers more likely than not, know nothing else.

Opening servers just because of language is lame, look at Wayfinder, it's completely dead. I love DDO the way it's. Specially Sarlona's diversified population is amazing, we have people in almost all time-zones. Besides, if you don't understand Chinese or at least care to translate why you have joined "Guo Ren" groups at first place?

Now you are being prejudiced on a particular nation. I'm not a Chinese but in my experience I never found a Chinese gamer selling his/her loots. Once I even got 3 shards in pre u14 old eDeeps (including the bracer shard) grouping with a random PUG of Chinese players (yes they gave those to me free).

Also learning Chinese don't hurt. Threads like Running with a Chinese Player? and Conversational Chinese, A Guide for Dummies made it easy to communicate with a Chinese gamer in DDO. I am sure you will find a lot other helpful threads too which will help you properly communicate with a Chinese player. So, good luck.

While learning chinese won't hurt, they are supposedly taught english so we can count on that to some extent.
It is still kind of difficult, thus it may help telling them to explain or reword.

As a native english speaker, I find that talking LOUDER at a non-native english speaker just makes it worse. However, taking a minute to type it out and give the listener a chance to get a translation from babelfish if needed or a clearer idea what I am actually saying helps. I have no idea where the whole yelling is a good idea for translation assistance actually comes from.

Never heard of that but probably comes from letting the person figure out the syllabes.
Gotta remember many languages focus on the vowels, unlike in english.

You can write and read it flawlessy and still struggle listening to an american or australian.
The native speaker talking normally can be too fast to anyone not used to it.

(the reverse is true as well, americans can struggle with spanish by ignoring the vowels)

That is usually done by talking slower, not louder.

    Communication
Person A emits verbal tones in the form of sentences while Person B utilizes sense of hearing to transmit exact words to brain which in turn, re-creates the sentence to fit their own agenda and re-emits into a new and improved, yet rarely accurate, statement.

While some Chinese players may have issues with verbal communication, their reading comprehension is pretty good.
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.
