Easter Egg? A stay at the inn

Killed the innkeeper in his secret room. His death spawned a CR 0 bat which followed me around. It fluttered like the companion ones do but when I stopped moving, it reverted to a hang upside down graphic. Tried taking the little bugger to the barn to see if some strange vortex opened up spewing high level chests but (sigh) no luck.

Anyone have any idea what this is all about?

ya, that's probably it. I was under the impression that offensive spells didn't spawn critters...only pew pew shiradis. I have seen thousands of procs and this is the first animal I have generated. tyvm, I can finally sleep now.

i can't speak to whether they *are* planning on it, but i can tell you that it was planned at some point, likely for quite a long time. it is the planned 3rd PrE for wizards that was announced a long long time ago (note: not all PrEs from that list seem to be still in the works however. mostly racial PrEs that we know of, but possibly wild mage could be a casualty as well).

for more evidence it was planned at least at one point, go look at the list of named loot you can get in shavarath.

Chest was a mimic! Had this just once though in a number of runs. Spawned a chest after killing it thankfully
