Default Favored soul - favored weapon suggestion

    Pulled from website...

A favored soul is proficient with whichever weapon her deity favors -- and many deities, particularly the more warlike ones, favor martial weapons.

Excellence with the Deity's Favored Weapon: At 3rd level, a favored soul gains the Weapon Focus feat with her deity's favored weapon. At 12th level, she gains the Weapon Specialization feat with that weapon.

Allow favored souls to pick a single weapon proficiency feat and give them the two bonus feats associated with chosen weapon.

Don't the available Faiths already give you weapon proficiency with the favoured weapon of their faith?

Yes, but the list is limited. IIRC, there are about 12 deities in the pantheon of the Sovereign Host, but you can only choose 1 or 2 of those guys to be the favored soul of.

EDIT: Found a DDO Wiki link to the churches of Eberron and the various deities that are worshipped in them. Some do not appear in DDO, along with some of the weapons that are favored. http://ddowiki.com/page/Deities

I find the weapon restrictions flavorful and therefore fun, however, I have long thought that 4 options was not enough. Please expand the list of religious options (and therefore weapons) available.

    You can't choose any.
You choose to follow the Sovereign host as a Pantheon, not pick out specific deities.

While it would technically be possible in Eberron for a PC character to follow an evil faith, its probably unlikely to be implemented other than the LoB. The Keepers of the past are a niche Elven faith that in DDO is probably merged with the undying court, the Path od Inspiration is almost exclusively Riedran, and that and the Path of Light are too bound up with Psionics and the Kalashtar to make much sense until they are introduced.

We are no longer Eberron. Just give a proficiency, focus and specialization bonus feat at those levels. This does not unbalance the game at all, just adds flavor to the class.

What i'm saying is do we need to waste time messing around with what god matches what favored weapon. Just give favored souls a weapon prof feat at level 1. then for that same weapon they receive weapon focus and specialization at the later levels.

Can you really imagine that many holy people, devoted to, if not directly touched by their faith, having mass crises of conscience when they step through a portal?

Please elaborate, keep in mind this is not PNP.

Agreed. Also, since we have enhancements now, I think FvS should get some better weapon damage/to-hit enhancments than what they have now. Maybe a divine-typed enhancement bonus, improved weapon dice, or an implement bonus to spellpower as if their favored weapon were a spellcasting implement. I've seen some FvS not even bother with their favored weapon, and just use a twohander instead. That's only fleshie FvS's, of course.

PC Divine classes are native to Eberron, and followers of the eberron faiths. Aside from Llolth and Mystra, they do not have any real contact with Realms deities, and there is no particular reason why they would suddenly switch religions.

I'm not sure how PNP or not would change this. Bear in mind that the OP was justifying this by quoting the PNP game.

Until such time as we can CREATE new characters directly from Forgotten Realms, then Eberron faiths are going to be all we get.

We come FROM Eberron and go TO Forgotten Realms, not the other way around.
Being able to choose from individual aspects of the Sovereign Host would be a step in the right direction.
We're not going to be able to worship the Dark Six as it stands anyways, so a little more variety couldn't hurt.

Not a bad idea... could have two options.

    Martial Option
A weapon proficiency feat at first level, weapon focus feat at 3rd level for chosen proficiency, finally the weapon specialization feat at 12th level for same weapon weapon would be appropriate.

    Spellcasting Option
similar but instead of weapon focus and specialization give small stacking spell power implement bonuses
