Default Build Help Request - Rogue/Fighter/Ranger?

I'm not entirely new, but I'm pretty new, and playing DDO has got me re-reading some Salvatore books (Sellswords, what's up) and re-reading those books has got me wanting to play an Artemis Entreri-ish build for my real first-life attempt at levels 1-20. I realize what I'm asking for is going to gimp me a little along the way, but I want to play a character (note: I'm not looking for a role-players build, but I'd rather feel connected to a decent build than min-maxing my way through the game).

I've gone through the forums already, and I've seen some of the other attempts at this build, and none of them seemed to me (with my limited experience) like they would be something I would feel comfortable playing. Looking at the type of character I'm trying to play, a few things come to my mind.

    - No specific weapon specializations. While this character will probably be mostly using a main-hand sword/off-hand dagger TWF setup, it will be proficient in the use of whatever weapons are required to handle the task.

    - A fair balance of strength and dexterity. I want to go through the TWF feats, but have no need of the OTWF. Weapon Finesse is a possibility, but it is still a melee build.

    - Enough splash to accomplish what needs to be accomplished. I'm a solo player 90% of the time. The archetype calls for rogue abilities, maybe even more rogue than fighter (for assassin), but this character is a skilled combatant first and foremost. Being able to disable traps, open doors, and UMD are all on the table, but efficient killing is key.

    - I don't know if Ranger is required at all. Not needing OTWF, I don't know if going 2 levels of Ranger would even be worth it. If I did, I'd end up taking something stupid for favored enemy, and if the fighter levels can get me what I need for the TWF, so be it.

I only have 28 point builds available to me. I'd like to keep this guy a Human or a Half-Elf (If there's a dilly that will really help the build out). I'm more than willing to ignore Wisdom and Charisma, although I'm not sure if I should keep INT a little lower to help out for UMD.

From what I understand, while solo-ing as a Rogue, if you don't have a hireling to draw aggro you can use Bluff when it's off CD to set yourself up for sneak attacks? Having that benefit of the sneak attack damage and not knowing how to maximize its effectiveness is the one thing really holding me back from working on a Rogue.

Any help would be appreciated, and if you have any other questions, feel free to let me know!

I'm not 100% sure what your looking for (as I have never read the books your talking about), but here is a little build I was kicking around a while back. With the right gear you should be able to get most if not all the traps (human skill boost ftw). I tossed in some tactical feats to help you lv you might want to swap some (at least one) so that you can get overwhelming crit later. The way I see this build playing is to range pull a group of mobs with manyshot, then when they get close smash their faces with tactical feats, hastring, or w/e (you get sneak dmg when the enemy is helpless). As for the simi's it realy doesn't matter what your using (I'd trade a feat for khopesh). As for the tomes I used the int one is important but not needed if you dont care about spot, but the dex one you will have to eat before you take GTWF. As for that line you can get it much earlier but I like to plan for end game skills so I spread the ranger lv's out. Also I just love the idea of human dmg boost + fighter haste boost + manyshot.

Is there any way to work it like that with 6 Rogue and 2 Ranger?

I want to take Assassin, and if I can get the TWF line with Fighter I can do that. I feel like for soloing most things (again, I only have lowbie experience) I'll get the most mileage out of bluff/backstab with either Lacerating weapons or Deception weapons.

Any reasons you prefer Scimitars in the build?

I'm iffy on ranged combat, in my limited experience I haven't tried it at all, so I'm not sure how required it is.

Thank you though, this is something I can work with - more fighter than rogue fits the character.

ok then here we go again lol....
If you want assasin then this next build I'll post is almost what I call the "thug" build nomaly we go with either barb or monk (monk for a feat barb for more hp/BAB/sprint boost) but I made it ranger for the flavor. Only one lv though as the 7th lv of rogue gets you an extra sneak att die. The sunder in this build is great against bosses and those things with higher fort.

Not sure about ranged builds screw 'em then.

Scimi's are in no way that much better than anyother wepon though the do havea broader crit rang and wil therfore crit more often making things like deception proc more often (or w/e procs on crits). I actualy perfer Khopesh as it does more dmg (if you decide on khopesh get rid of CE and imp trip and go with cleave and khopesh).

    Well here goes

    +1, sir. I like it a lot.

From what I've read, most people roll with Power Attack on at all times unless faced with a difficult boss for the DPS, is that right or are you taking it as a prereq?

Can't wait for work to be done so I can give this a shot.

Yes roll with PA on all th time I think a good standing rule is that if you missing with 7 or less turn it off. the CE is pre for imp trip you ca just let that sit off (as you cant have PA and CE going at the same time) unless some wierd situation comes up and you have AC gear.

    Word.

One more thing, just because I think you might have only included it at this point because of the title:

Is the 1 Ranger level worth anything? I only put Ranger in the title because I wasn't sure if Rogue/Fighter could satisfy everything I wanted to do AND TWF. If Ranger doesn't offer any real benefits, it's not really a requirement - ergo should I put that other level into Rogue or Fighter, or would a splash in something else help me way more than I thought?

If you're going rogue 7 / ftr 12, then the only question is what to do with your final lvl-up. Some options:

    • rogue 8 - get Imp Uncanny Dodge and W&S Mastery III (+15% for +60% total). With the recent changes to Dodge bonuses and Uncanny Dodge, I think this is the best choice; IUD is a huge boost to short-term defense and now on a timer not limited-uses-per-rest.
    • monk 1 - 1 extra feat, +1 to all saves, handwraps as a secondary weapon (if in robes), WIS AC bonus (tho U14 nerfed pajama AC builds)
    • barb 1 - +10% run speed, single use of Rage, and +1 Power Atk enh. Best for zergers with modest DPS boost as well.
    • rgr 1 - free Bow STR, 1 FE, and rgr wand usage. Only makes sense if you want at least a part-time archer, IMHO.

In regards to playing a solo character, are there things that don't care what your dodge chance is at later levels?

Also, if it went Rogue 8/Fighter 12 - Is IUD really the last feat I would end up taking?

You don't take IUD; you get it free at rogue lvl 8, just like you get Evasion free at rogue lvl 2 and UD free at rogue lvl 4. Or more to the point, it's not a selectable feat.
