Default Quarterstaff Monk build with Rogue Skills?

I recently bought Monk, and I love the class, but I'd like to go dark path and so I'd like to be able to get some points into UMD and play borderline trapmonkey. I thought about going completely Rogue (I mostly solo, though) but I don't want to completely forsake this money I spent.

I wish I would have bought Artificer, but whatever.

Do you guys know of any 28 point build I could take a look at that will let me play a Quarterstaff monk who can still do traps and use healing wands and stuff?

I'm really tired of levelling dudes up to 3 and getting upset and quitting, hah.

can multi-class with rogue but you usually want your first level to be rogue if you do that. One more thing you will have a lot more success in combat if you use handwraps rather than q-staffs. I did a rogue/monk/paladin and did well but it wasnt a 28pt build

if you havent gotten to far reroll take rogue as your first level then monk levels you want these skills every level at least search, disable, concentration not were I can use a builder right now but race would be best as human or half-elf you should have enough pts do for some umd.

I know zero about dark monks as I only play light.

In general that's easy: Make a Rogue1, then take a bunch of Monk levels, then optionally one more Rogue level later to fill in low skills. Plan to get a +2 intelligence tome as soon as you can. A Monk would need 16 intelligence to maintain 3 cross class skills (Search, Disable, UMD). Or for a totally different direction, do Rog1, Monk1, and then Rog2-19. That's easier because you won't need any Intelligence.

However, the core problem with the idea is that Quarterstaff is a bad weapon. Monks should use Handwraps, or if they're multiclass they can instead use weapons for the other class (Rapier or Khopesh).

If you want to use Quarterstaff for some reason that's OK; just replace GTWF in your build by GTHF. But be aware you'll be weak in combat: not only less regular DPS, but also no Stunning Fist or Quivering Palm. You can search for any Rogue/Monk build, replace GTWF with GTHF, and off you go...

If u want a fun levelling build, not optimum at endgame a 13/6/1 Rogue/Monk/Fighter build is a lot of fun.

The build uses QStaffs and takes Acrobat 2, Ninja Spy 1. Any race will work, mine was Dwarf and had well over 500Hp at end game.

Put points into Str & Con, then a little Dex, Int & Cha depending on your need for reflex save, skill points or umd. Grab +2 tomes if u can, especially in Int by lvl 7.
You can max all trapsmith skills, concentration & umd.

Feats: THF line, Toughness, Power Attack, IC: Blud, Cleave, ...

Levelling: Rogue, 6 Monk, rest Rogue, throw in fighter wherever an extra feat works best for you.

Very survivable & relatively easy to solo for a melee.

I'm gonna bump this thread instead of making a new one because the question is relevant.

If you only had 28 points, and you wanted to splash Druid instead of fighter (I'm seeing some builds do this for Ram's Might and the QStaff enhancement) - Where would you put your stats?

    I'd be going human.

Some builds I'm seeing are making WIS pretty much a dump stat, since you only need 11 (I think, could be 12) for L1 Druid spells.

Also, should I be going Rogue/Monk/Druid/Monk5/Rogue12 or Rogue/Druid/Monk6/Rogue12?

Thanks in advance, as always, your brains are fantastic for information.

I echo the fun of a 13 rogue/6 monk/1 fighter split. I actually played one up to 7.4 mill xp, a full TRx2 life and up to L25. I actually did the acrobat2/spy1 and you do end up using wraps a lot, but the acrobat enhancement line is still fun to play around with and you are super, super fast. Being immune to knockdowns is also kinda fun and of course you can get any epic trap in the game with gear and decent skill point allocation. One staff that is fun to level with is an upgraded Breeze which is actually better than wraps for a couple levels.

The fighter level helps get to feat BAB requirements, gives you more HPs due to fighter enhancements and gets you a feat. That probably outweighs what you would get from druid.

My personal preference would be 12monk/7rogue/1fighter... take rogue level 1st for all the extra skillpoints, then the 12 monk levels, then the rest of the rogue levels & the fighter one at the end to round it out & get the bonus high-tier fighting feat.
For race, half orc would have the advantage in damage-dealing with 2hander weapons, though personally i'd go with a half elf & take the cleric dilly, meaning i wouldn't have to worry too much about UMD. If you don't have those races, human would probably be your best bet though virtually any can work & have their own interesting take on things.
For monk enhancements, go for tier3 earth stance (it grants +1 crit multiplier on 19-20 rolls) & take both tiers of ninja spy. Since you're going to be quarterstaff focussed, ignore touch of death & its prereqs.
For rogue enhancements, go with acrobat1.
Feats-wise, you'll want to fit in - toughness, dodge, power attack, cleave, great cleave, improved criticals (bludgeoning), overwhelming criticals (in epic levels). For the rest (and you get quite a few, so something using dragonmarks is totally viable), its somewhat a matter of taste though I'd probably go with mobility & spring attack, improved martial arts & precision.. if its not a half elf, probably skill focus UMD would come in handy too.
Epic destinies, any of the martial ones or fury would be great, it just depends on personal preference.
You'll end up with a build that has some decent sneak attack as well as up-front fighting capability, good attack speed, and some excellent crits - the venerable rahls might will become a pretty sweet x4 (or x5 in dreadnaught), and eventually once you get your hands on the mighty Sireth you'll be in for some real fun
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was, now what's it is weird and scary to me.

This is a bit of a flavor build I did ages ago, when wanting a monkrobat dragonmark user.

I found it really easy to level, though it was definately better in a group than it was solo.

I've been playing around with a trapworthy Q-staff concept:

    HORC 1 Druid, 7 Rogue, 12 Monk

Druid gets shillegah, rams might, lesser vigor (useful when starting out) & positive spellpower
Rogue gets skills & acro I
Light based monk gets solo healing & sweet begger all else
HORC gets THW thumping enhancements and the ability to cause elves & half elves to suffer from a nervous disorder by standing in the bathroom when they need to go...

Not remotely an optimal DPS build (probably more the small children point & laugh before stealing cookies end of the spectrum) but it should be solo & casual friendly.

I went rog 13 / monk 6 / druid 1 (Acro II / Ninja I), as IMHO the extra rog lvls provide more: +3D6+6 SA (vs +2D6 from Ninja II), +5% atk speed, knockdown immunity, lots of skill pts. Opportunist (+3% doublestrike) is slightly better than Wind II->III (+2.5%); in epic feats, it comes down to Imp Martial Arts vs. Imp Sneak Atk (if you can get your DEX that high).

I find it hard to get full benefit from sneak attack when soloing so that tipped things in the Monks favour. My build priorities tend to be 1. flavour (giant sized druidic monkey thief in pajamas = check), 2. self sufficiency (trapskills & healing curse = sorta checked), 3. killing stuff (monk skills, HORC THW enhancements, shillegah/ramming might = possibly checked).

Strongly suspect your mix is much better I really do need a proper thief acrobat build at some stage, especially as my first PnP character was a thief acrobat as per Unearthed Arcana (bonus cookies to anyone who recognises that little piece of D&D historic rules). Ah, the joy of robbing houses by jumping directly into the second story windows.
