    Default Upgrading Old Named Weapons

With all the new weapons introduced in the loot tables, and certain area specific upgradable weapons. There are a handful of older named weapons that should be considered for some kind of bump.

Here's a few examples, *note, some of the named weapons, have no epic content for that zone*

    Below is the wiki list link;

There are a few that if given some kind of upgrade, would find a deserving place in today's game.

I like the OP's intent, however, the examples given were poorly chosen IMO. Sunblade and Carnifex do not need improvement. While they are not as wonderful compared other items as they used to be, they are still about as good as you can get at their ML and for several levels past that.

I'm fairy certain the Devs said someplace that they are not going to go back and adjust existing items to deal with power-creep, but I'm too lazy to find it and we're outta coffee.

I remember that post, but as some things in this game are like the weather......
If we are getting epic GH, so why not have Inferno upgradable? (another example)

As for the post from space pony, you didnt look at the link?
I just posted a few samples, to criticize a random spattering isn't really note worthy imo.

I hear you on this Ferd, but with low level crafting doesn't that make upgrades kinda useless? It would have to be pretty powerful to beat out what you can craft in a lot of cases.

There are some people that don't use Cannith crafting, if that's what you're referring to.

And thanks for the support of the thread. My hope is gets "tabled" at some dev meeting again.

    Lol @ getting it tabled!

I don't understand people not working on Cannith crafting just a little bit. It doesn't take a whole lot of effort to be able to make some nice twink items.

I'm too lazy too, but I think FotS basically said his hands were full with new items. I think it was basically a "Nice idea, but don't hold your breath" sort of statement. That being said, I suspect that at sometime, or every now and then we may see an item or 2 get an update (like Cloudburst recently did). Here's hoping anyway.

Oh and Ferd, I understood those were just a sample. I agree with what you're saying, I was just pointing out that I felt they were a poor sample to illustrate that they needed an overhaul.

I also interpreted the dev comment as not being a priority rather than never going to happen, which is understanable given the large amount of old (and useless) name items in the game.

Maybe there's some more general alternative the devs may consider, such as allowing "craftable" on named items.
A mere +2 like in challenge items and runearms should suffice and would extend the lifespan of the less used items.
(with the corresponding level increase of course yes, the item won't be shelved too soon)

C's inferno doesn't make sense to tweak since it's not an end-of-game item and isn't totally underpowered at level.

However, it never really made sense to me why it was a named item. The only advantage of it compared to random +5 flaming burst was the ml. Whoopty-do. So I guess they could add some sort of additional effect to make it worthy of being a named item.

The obvious time to do this would be with release of epic gianthold. They could make a subtle alteration to the base item at that time and of course have a much better epic version. Epification of weapons actually always scares me, because it's hard to get the right "balance" - strong enough to have a particular niche use worthy of their end-of-game item status, but not so strong that they obsolete all previous epic weapons. A tough task indeed. (Insert random lack of faith comment in our current devs abilities to balance items here.)

Since they dont want to take the time/effort to rebalance and upgrade they should add an antique weapon vendor who would buy named weapons from you for a lot more plat. This way it would make finding them in a chest a little more exciting.
