Dont worry, this isn't a thread about how DDO is going to be killed by a new game. Endless Space isn't even an MMO, though it will have multi player co op.

I'm pretty excited about this game. A lot of people will compare it to Civ IV/V, but I am excited because it reminds me of an old classic called Starships Unlimited (STUN) and its brief Matrix game production Starships Unlimited Divided Galaxies. I loved those games, though both are no longer being developed. You can still buy STUN, but its been a few years since an update was released. ES reminds me of a modernized version of STUN.

I think the one thing I will miss in ES is STUN's combat system. In STUN the focus was on the Starships, so you could pick ship maneuvers, move available power to shields or weapons, or mass a huge armada to destroy or capture an opponents world (which fought back with its own weapons). In ES the combat is a card system, which is interesting but not as much fun.

Has anyone played or tried out the game? I could use some input on it to temper my expectations.
