    Default F2P TWF Dwarven Ranger

I am a casual F2P player that has recently returned to the game. I have been on a melee Ranger kick lately as I have played ranged classes in other games. Since I am not going to be spending any cash to buy other races/point-buys, I decided to go with a dwarven ranger for the dual wielding Dwarven War Axes.

I have heard a lot about how UMD is essential to every current build, but with only 11 ranks at end game what is the use? Unless there are items out there I do not know about, which given my experience with the game could very well be true, how do cross-class skilled players get UMD of 30? Since it is highly unlikely I will ever do end-game content, the UMD will go to other skills.

The Hide/MS was there for the initial levels to help with survive-ability as a solo player. Currently my toon is 4th level. At this stage of play, I have no problem soloing dungeons, except for "Proof is in the Poison" and for that I take a hireling cleric.

I know I went against convention with choosing Human as my first favored enemy instead of undead, but hey all those humans are the ones creating the undead in the first place. Might as well take out the source of the plague instead of the symptom. I just picked Dragon as my third favored, even though I might never see that level of play, or it will be 4 - 6 months from now.

So with a F2P, solo player mind-set, what do you think of the choices made below?

You don't need so much base DEX; I would go for base stats 18 / 14 / 16 / 8 / 8 / 6. You don't need WF:S, OTWF, or TWD; and you should definitely add Cleave & GC; partly for Frenzied Berserker pre-req and partly to take Overwhelming Crit as your first epic feat.

See my Kougar build for how I approached it. Haven't updated it for U15 yet; WF:S is no longer OC pre-req, so I would drop it for Imp Sunder or Stunning Blow.

    Thank you for your thoughts.

At higher levels, I might not need OTWF or WF, but at level 5, it definitely helps. Its too late to change my stats, and not going to spend money to buy TP to change them. At higher levels (mid to late teens), I could see going to "Fred" and changing out WF and TWD for Cleave and GC for the OC:S pre-reqs.

You could always use your free LR if you haven't already.

    Just sayin'.

At low lvls, you're better off using greataxes, esp. if you have a Carnifex. You won't be able to swap WF:S for Cleave because you took WF:S before Power Atk. But as DonRicardo points out, you should be able to use your free LR to redo your feats etc.
