I would never in a lifetime have considered this as a solution. On some level, it makes perfect sense now that you brought it to our attention.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give this a try when I get home.

P.S. Other posters are exactly right. Set party chat volume to max. Set every other sound in the game to .01ish.

If you guys wanted us to enjoy the sounds in the game, you may want to continue to work on this. Oh, and volume sliders for party members, yes. Just a volume DOWN would be a huge improvement. At least then I could attempt to balance the whisperer with the guy swallowing his microphone!

Well hey, at least now we know that they CAN get things to stack. Unfortunately, it's not the things we would choose to do so with. :P

It makes perfect sense, but now I want them to just swap this "mistake" with party chat - THAT would be a handy way to make sure we can differentiate.

    Erm. Really?

Seriously guys, you gotta do something about that code.
No, they're playing %number of chat windows you have open that allow tells to display% all at the same time. Has essentially the same effect as increasing the volume 2-3 db (where 3db is a relative doubling of the original sound volume) per tell being played simultaneously.

Is it a matter of just adjusting the decibel level of the ding? Like dropping it a few hundred decibels? Do you have backup copies of codes from before patches are implemented? Could looking at what the code looked like before the patch and comparing to what is looks like now give any clues?

This problem also occurs when summoning Hirelings - an extremely loud ding, i think its exactly the same as the /tell notification.

    Is this the same problem?

(only been a problem for the last week or two...what did you break this time?)

If you have Windows Vista or above you can also set the overall volume of DDO through the Windows volume manager. This gets rid of the loud ding, at least for me.
