It just drives me mad when people mis-spell it. I mean, its a computer game, you would of thought everyone would practice perfect grammar and spelling at all times! Its shocking.

    Yoof of today!!!!
    Shouldn't that be "would have"?

That's the one that gets me.

'would of' instead of 'would have'

'should of' instead of 'should have'

And also 'not that big of a deal'

and 'could care less' instead of 'couldn't care less'

    Oh no...must stop now...head hurts...

you should take up yoga... or try reading the newspaper, seeing all the really bad things going on in the world and get a headache over something worth while.

Also, I think would of comes from writing as I speak. If I was writing something important like I would read and double check my writing.

I'm not though, I just chat to you same as I would chat to a bloke down the pub. Would have sounds like would 'ave when I speak but I don't separate the words so it sounds like wouldof

Sorry. I didn't mean to pick on you specifically. Sadly I am a grammar fiend and can't help it. I am sure I should look for treatment. Don't get me started on apostrophes...

I have a big black marker pen for just such eventualities...so sad.

Na its alright, I can take it

My point is though, spelling grammar, punctuation etc is very unimportant when just chatting in a non formal way. If it goes to the extent of giving you headaches then yes you should go see someone about controlling your stress levels.

Thing is I don't really care if DDO folk think I'm illiterate. I'm not, I know I'm not the people important to my life, friends, family, employer etc know I'm not. I want ddo folk to play a game with me not re write the complete works of Shakespeare

Yea as I say, its only because I'm being casual and relaxed when I type on a forum....

But yes, you obviously understand what I mean, I couldnt think how to type it out as it sounded

Probably easier for someone to understand if they live, or have been, in the south London area of England.... Its a regional thing

I've been spelling it "reknown" for about 2 years now.

I think that's how I saw it spelled most often on the forums and just kinda assumed it was right.

Many spelling mistakes are infact typing errors. Switched letters caused by some fingers being slower than others. Even though your brain tells a finger to start typing before another finger..the second finger might beat it..Rouge is infact this type of error. The "u" and "g" are switched. I have these kinds of errors with any letters that involve my left pointer finger, as I nearly cut it off several years ago, and it still has nerve damage, and slight numbness in the tip. I often type the word "from" as "form". Not because my brain did not try to type it correctly, but because I type the letter "r" very slowly.

    Finally (maybe).

My last one is knowing the difference between:

Yeah, Yea, and Ya, which all kind of mean affirmative, but never know which to use in what situation.

So I go with Yup or Yep. Or even, rarely, yes.

Or, when I just put: y

Which half the time I read "why" and wonder if somebody is saying yes, or asking me why I asked him to do something.

This is not the correct spelling in American English. English is spoken all over the world in many countries, in many different forms. In my opinion the language as spoken in England has a lot of strange words.

    truck-lorry, toilet-watercloset, wrench-spanner, mom-mum, nuts-dotty, pants-trousers, arrested-nicked, lawyer-soliciter or barrister, phonebooth-callbox, brash-cheeky, bathroom-lavatory, beat-fagged, bar-pub....there are hundreds of other differences.

    Not quite spelling but...

I've met quite a few people who don't know the official name for firewall is "Wall of Fire" just because everyone says firewall...to the point where people abbreviate it as fw rather than wof...

    And,

Of course English has a lot of strange words. We stole them from the French, Germans, Romans and god alone knows who else.

I refuse to recognise the existence of American English however. As far as I'm concerned it's just a bastardised form of the true language

Incidentally, I've noticed a few strange comments when I saw "AFK, going for a quick f a g". Which is for some reason blocked on this forum. Do they have something against smokers?

Any self-respectin' Southerner on this forum will tell y'all it's "y'all". And I used the singular "y'all"the first time. there's a plural "y'all", too, but y'all (plural) wouldn't understand that.
