    Default Free for VIP

    The word "Free" means:

    1) Without charge
    2) Without restriction
    3) Marketing jargon for "included" or "please click-through my dubious iPod web-banner offer".

Since VIP is $9.95 per month, and Terms and Conditions Apply; "Free" does not adhere to definition #1 or #2. Can you please stop using #3?

Turbine's use of the word "Free" is exactly the same as the use of FreeCreditReport.com's. Do you really want to evoke comparisons of your business model to theirs?

Free fir VIP just means you do not have to pay TP/$ to buy it, because it is included with your subscription.
If you downgrade from VIP to Premium, guess what?
All those perks you enjoyed as "Free to VIP," you now have to spend TP/$ to enable.

(PS: If you have an issue with marketing, perhaps a different forum might be the best venue?)

Yes, it is included in the price you paid, which is the point.

    You Paid. It ain't Free.

(btw, which forum would be more appropriate than Suggestions? It's not a bug, it's not content related, it's not for general discussion... It's a suggestion.)

well... they could've said "at no additional cost to VIP members"

but free just sounds shorter and more appealing

You have paid for X. Because you have paid for X, the seller decides to give you a bonus of Y in addition.

Whether or not Y is free is a matter of semantics. I would personally say Y was free, but only free to those people who had already paid for X.

However, for future purchases, it is probably more appropriate to advertise "Buy X! It now comes with Y at no additional cost!". And eventually, X + Y would simply become the new standard for that particular product. But then again, "no additional cost" is still a form of free...

To sum up, I find your argument awfully nitpicky. It is unlikely anyone will misunderstand the advertisement due to the language used, and therefor i have no issues with it.

I'm an attorney and even find it nitpicky and assinine. As it is somethink added to existing payment plans without additional consideration, it is free.

"Free for vip" and "At no additional charge" describe the same thing. Its like saying "Buy one, get one free", "Two for the price of one", or "50% off".
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

You're not paying for content, you're paying for the right to call yourself a VIP.

The content is free to those who can call themselves VIP.

You are on the forum of an awesome game. So clearly I can't think "wow, this person has nothing better to do than argue ridiculous semantics like this?" because you do, go play the game. Have fun!

An MMO can still have conditions as it's a software license concerned - we have not purchased a standalone product but simply unrestricted certain features of the client, hence free to those whom have purchased a VIP player pass.

T&Cs always apply, even for freeware software - you would need to define what specifically is 'restricted' as a VIP that you feel aggrieved about to have a discussion over that aspect.
