What would be the point of having guild ships then? Without buffs they're reduced to being another form of transportation and nothing more.

Wait. Didn't you just say get rid of the ship buffs? Make up my mind already!

    OK.

While I see what you're attempting to do, which is make it more of a competition, I don't think this is a good idea. It shouldn't be a race. It should be about bettering your guild and working together within the guild to make it to the next level.

Reading his idea, I think he means when you buy the shrine you don't use Plat (or TP), but rather you buy it with renown. Rather than get a tax each time you use it.

Rolled a one on comprehend reading. My fail.

It's the same as what I suggested then, albeit slightly different. Great minds eh?

I'd love to hear the thoughts of some official sources on how they think the guild system works now, vs how they think it should work RE: New, or casual players. Bit a divisive issue though. I doubt anyone would want to stick their head over the trench wall.

Remember what happened when ship buffs got wiped? I doubt anyone will touch guilds for a good long while.

Very good point. This issue is all over the forums such that I would think the Devs would say something about it, if even to say they recognize this is an issue within the community.

I think the devs recognize there is a problem. I think that is what the Build Your Guild event was about. The stated goals of that event were similar to the goals stated by those of us who complain about the current system. Unfortunately BYG did not really help the guilds they said it was intended to help, those that help new players. Instead what BYG really did was mostly help out guilds that have lots of people reincarnating all the time. But their intentions were good, as they stated them in the goals for the event. So I am hopeful that we may yet see something positive on this issue.

I see you're wanting to complicate things yet again. I don't understand why, more levels of complexity will only break things.

Do I have a possible solution? Yes in fact. I'll be posting it later and it's going to be filled with math and rather large. I invite you to read it when it's up and consider it. It's well written, clear and concise and actually offers a VERY simple solution after explaining the issue.

Add fluff and cosmetic stuff like guild uniforms etc... Your character should not be more powerful from being in a guild even if the buffs are marginal. Access to better gear from guildmates, higher quality groups, guild raids etc... All is fine. That is what guilds should be about. Turbine apperently sees it different so I proposed a change that kept the buffs.

I think the guild level and guild buffs should be seperated. Turbine seems hooked on making people join guilds to get buffs, but don't want every guild getting every buff without work. My suggestion could see small guilds pool their currency for weeks and then spend it all on a 5%XP shrine and have a guild levelling weekend. All the buffs would be available for all guilds BUT the restriction goes to cost rather then level. Small guilds will only be able to afford cheaps buffs all the time or one good buff. There is no preassure to boot casual players as any currency earned can go towards buffs.
The renown/guild levels could then actually based on performance rather then lootage and strickly for the epeen. Put guild level against the characters name. Give level 95+ guild members a golden glow, add the guild uniform skins, guild weapon skins etc... as option for being certain levels.

As dng242 said, use the Guild Currency to buy the shrine, not each individual buffs.

    To summarize
    Separate buffs from renown.
Change current guild renown tokens to guild currency tokens.
Each shrine added to the ship costs guild currency.
Every buff available for every guild, the only limitation being what they can afford.
No need to boot any player based on their playtimes.

Make renown based on performance like XP is.
The better you perform, the more famous (renown) you get.
Guild levels based on fame not chest/end reward/corpse lootage.
Guild level becomes strictly about bragging rights.
A friend will bail you out of jail.
A mate will be sitting in there beside you saying "**** that was awsome!!!"

Right, it got invites to guild alts on new accounts.

Here's hoping that it's being looked into quietly, behind the scenes.
