    Lightbulb How good is today's MotU sale? (did some numbers)

    I did some numbers on todays Motu Sale and this is what I got in short:

    If you bought your Turbine Points with double bonus points and wait until MotU is for 20-30% less (typical discount range) on the store you will still pay more then todays offer at the DDO-Market.

    The numbers: Buying the big TP bundle with double bonus points is $ 59.99 for 8850 TP. That’s 0.68 Cent per TP. With the base edition you get the MotU adventure pack (later 2495 TP) and the epic destinies (995 TP, other sources say even 1495 TP). Lets go with the best case and a 25% discount: That’s approx. 2618 TP for the pack and the ED when they are on a sale. 2618 TP cost you at least $ 17.75 and the base pack is on sale for $ 14,99. Even in the best case (buying a even larger TP bundle and getting more discount) you won’t win much compared to today’s sale and have to wait until there is an DDO sale of MotU.

    For the standard pack you get Druids, Challenges and 1000TP on top. Let’s say you can use the 1000 TP and get everything at a 75% discount then the standard edition is worth 5260 TP to you. Again at 0,68 Cent per TP that’s approx. $ 35.65 and today’s deal is $ 24.99. IF you don’t own the Eberron adventure packs that come with the standard pack then it is a even better deal to you.

    This is only numbers. Whether you should buy the expansion or not because of fun vs. bugs is not part of this. I just wanted to figure out if it is a good deal to get it today, if one wants to buy MotU anyway.

    Except that the vast majority of people who had not purchased the pack already likely either have no intention of purchasing it at all, or have a pre-existing store of turbine points (such as from monthly VIP points) saved.

    I doubt many people were planning on purchasing additional points to pick it up when it goes to the in-game store, instead of just purchasing it outright earlier on.

    Basically, it doesn't really matter much if it's a better deal. It would have to be ~80% off to make a real difference.

    Edit: Forgot to account for those who would purchase point cards to pick it up from the ingame store. Unfortunately, those people are unlikely to be able to benefit from this deal for the same reason they would use point codes - lack of credit cards.

    I didn't buy MotU yet because I allways wait for a good deal and don't mind waiting a bit. (Less bugs that way as a benefit.) I only buy TP like once a year when they are on a sale so I can get the good store sales. I know a lot of players that do the same and this thread was targeted at them. And I am not sure, if the vaste majority is VIP or had bought the expansion allready. I would say the vast majority are the FTP follks who can make a good deal today, especially if you don't own the Ebrron packs in the standard editon.

    imo, no matter what deal comes up, the best deal (for an f2p player at least) was the collector's
    you know, an f2p becomes premium, lifetime tomes, all the pets, a number of really good packs, some nice perks, vet II and the spending tp, not to mention everything else

    For a f2p player who owned nothing before the deal, I agree.

    The collectors one was $79.99, right? Was a good deal if you didn't had any packs or if the tomes and pets have a high value to you. For people that allready owend the packs, that don't TR much and don't care for pets it was a rather poor deal by the numbers. And the biggest flaw was that you paid in advance, if I got that right a lot of players regret that they spendet that much money.

    But the comparison with the collectors edition doesn't matter anyway because you can't get it anymore. If you wondered whether to buy the pack now or to spend TP (you don't have in surplus) you got an answer.

    Juat bought a base edition for me (I'm vip so druid and challenge are "free" anyway) and a standard one for my gf so presumably she can spend the 1000 TP to buy the new U15 pack
    Happy to see that my plan (Don't buy till 20 august or so and let's see if they put some good offer to get more $$$ before the expansion go out for TP) worked ^^

    Imho the 50% off is a great gift for us all!

    ^^ This^^
    I too bought the expansion today, the Standard Edition at 50% off.
    As a premium player who has allready every pack the Collectors pack wasn't a good enough deal for me so i decided to wait untill the pack would hit the Store.
    And i'm glad i could resist myself not giving in before today! Yay for a good deal! (also yay for paypal option for buying outside the DDO Store. I bought the pack from the DDO Market).

    For those interested, this is the calculation i kept in mind:
    * MotU Pack - 2495 TP
    * Epic Destinies - 995 TP
    * Druid - 1495 TP
    --------------------
    Total 4985 TP

    I had the plan to buy TP in the store as following:
    3600 + 2700bonus = 6300 TP for EU 40

    Now i have all 3 the above mentioned items for EU 25

    With the Store bought option i would have 1315 TP left to spend freely.
    With the todays 50% sale i have 1000 TP extra to spend freely and got a greater tome of learning

    Good deal if you ask me.

    Originally I had planned to wait until the new content hit the DDO store, but as a player who suffers from altitis I couldn't resist the collector's edition because of the tomes of learning. It was absolutely worth it, even though I already had all adv packs and enough favor on my main character for vet2

    Otherwise I agree with the OP: Players who have decided to go from f2p to premium (or from VIP to premium) and haven't bought any of the preorder packs can get a lot of content for their money with today's special offer.

    Default Well done Turb. You made a sale.

    I have only spent £5 on the game so far (when the low-med advs were on an 80% discount) and have enjoyed the game enough to the point I was going to buy some more TP points to take advantage of a potential 35% sale tomorrow.

    I think this sale is pitched at my demographic. I play ~8 hours a week so I have no real incentive to invest heavily and don't ever see that changing. £16 for pack + points + 4 adventures I was going to buy this week anyway? Deal.

    Yes, it really IS 0.68 cents per point. Just gave me a chuckle thinking of the old $.01 / .01C thing

    Most the math in here doesn't even include the 1/server Greater XP tome. The more of those you can actually make use of, the better this becomes-- even premiums with most of the other "bonus" stuff aren't going to have bought a greater tome for EVERY character!

    Yep, I didn't take the tomes into account because not every player might want/need one for his/her playstyle. But it's a nice bonus for those who can make good use of it for sure.

    They almost got me. Then I saw that it wasn't even really DDO's marketplace, but Digital River's.

    I'll just wait 5 days and get it with money I spent 8 months ago, when I felt comfortable giving Turbine money.

    Are there any promo codes that work with the DDO Market / Digital River to sweeten the deal? Does anyone know?

    A lazy google search didn't find anything, but I'm at the cart page now and they're offering 5,000TP for $34.99. Eh.
