    ^^This.

I think new buffs for MM achievements are a very bad idea, as they would make MM into another required grind-fest. Same, to lesser extent, with xp -- the way it is now is a nice bonus but not worth working toward. But information about what you are fighting is very much in spirit of Monster Manual. Hit points, fort, DR, resists, etc. (No need to allocate special key for that. "Z" will do just fine!)

Looking forward to the whole monster manual.

    Like:
-The ability to see details on the monsters. Would like to see more info also (fort, resist, etc.). The MM is a great idea.
-Having companions, tp, and elixirs as rewards.
-The layout of the UI for the MM, nice. It's easy on the eyes and fun to flip through.
-The way the monsters animate when you hover over them and can be manipulated. Kinda fun having them trapped there.

    Dislike:
-Rewards for character deeds are xp, only. Maybe the TP has to be guarded closely but what about giving a random, rare, or named bane/slaying weapon for a final tier of the character deeds? For undead character deeds, a couple of the potions from Mabar that add light dmg to weapons? A certificate from the twelve to shop at some "special" store?

    WAI?
-The final tier account deed for some of them doesn't show anything for a reward (noticed it on elf and ghoul, maybe others).

    My Impressions as a VIP...

    My Likes
!-Monster Details, would love to see more detail as the deeds get completed...maybe tier up the deeds for better detail?
!-End rewards seem nice. Cosmetic pets are cool...I personally don't use them much though...they get annoying in quests. I would prefer tangible rewards. TP, pots or maybe cosmetic items. I like the buffs myself...but they would have to remain TINY and always stack. +1 vs poison for completing the spider deed, +1 save vs energy drain for wraiths...something to fit the monster types...but not game breaking.

    My Dislikes
?-XP Rewards are lacking. People have discussed 1xp per kill...that would be good...but reward at deed completion would be better...not per kill. If you have to kill 50 skeletons give 50xp at deed completion. I personally think this is too low. Should be like 250xp for killing 50 skeletons...that would be more fair. Not as good as a slayer, but a nice reward none the less.

(yes i know some players are more dedicated that i am and DO) I'd like to know more than just their HP. I want to know weaknesses, resists, alignments, what kind of DR they have etc.
^This! Stats, stats, stats! Gamers love stats. Face it, most of us are nerds and math geeks and love to see the numbers. We're the guys who read the Monster Manual, and not just for the pretty art. Give us detailed stats on all the monsters we slay. We'll go out of our way to hunt down every critter just to fill in our books with the relevant stats. And make it look pretty, too, and we'll love it.

When i first heard about the manual, that is what i was expecting. From the little i've seen i was a bit let down. I personally think HP should be given from go..then other stuff, like the DR etc, could be earned.

Also, i want every monster in the whole game in there!! (well..i do.)

Anyway..i think it's a good idea and am looking forward to the finished version.
3 million times this. Well, except the first line and the "HP from the start". Maybe killing 1-5 type of a certain spider will do it for that spider type? The rest of it I agree with though.

I am also looking forward to the new monster manual.

The rewards seem to be fine to me. 1 xp per kill or something like that, I can go with or without.

There are several things in place to pump your exp and if you are doing slayers in each wilderness then you are getting a double whammy of exp from both the slayer and book until you have finished your slayer and book has a higher kill count feat.

When the prologue was online, I found myself running the low level wilderness and quests with my 20 just to see what the book would do. You know, that was a blast!

One thing I would like to see-once you have completed each creature line of knowledge, you should be able to fight that creature type better-you know more about it-so maybe we could get a mediocre increase in attack and defense against that creature type. let's say a +2-+2-+2-+2. att, damage, defense, spell resistance. Maybe replace the +2 att with a +2 spell penetration for casters.

    Peace

Well im not interested in pets at all(in fact i boot players for even breaking them out in groups),the extra info on mobs is ok but i can do without it too.Xp rewards are just plain horrible but then again all my characters are higher lvl.Id like to see cosmetic armor exclusive to finishing a "book" or something similar but then again its because im already tired of seeing every monk i run across in a spider-spun caparison.

All in all i dont see these as a priority only if i have the extra TP with nothing else to buy.

    1) The final account deed does not list a reward for any of the creatures in Vol I or Vol II. I'm thinking it's supposed to be more TP? I'm too scared to get it in case I get nothing.

    2) The 15TP for 500 Bat kills did work, but required a log in and out to be added. Not complaining.

    3) The Medium Gem of Fortune reward requires the deed to be clicked on before appearing in your inventory. This is cool and convenient.

    4) Bat, Rat and Sahuagin Mastery all work.

    Default Another Thought on MM

Any chance that as a bonus for finishing all the goals in one of the volumes of the MM, you get the next one for free? I.E. If I do EVERYTHING in the prologue, I get vol. I for free?

I think that new dialogue for mobs would be a good monster manual reward.
Killing thousands of a certain monster type would earn you a reputation amongst that type and the non-quest relevant dialogue of those types (such as in slayer areas) could be reflective of this something akin to "Its him" "Why are you hunting us?" "So... Our blood fued continues" "We've been expecting you, #playername" etc

A thing like this could make killing the next 1000 creatures feel "new" as they are not repeating phrases you have come to know.

    /signed

Except I would phrase it "If I do EVERYTHING in vol. I, I get vol. II for free?"

Because to do EVERYTHING in the prologue while remaining 100% F2P would be an achievement of such epic proportions, it deserves a lot more than free volume I!

    This isn't really funny anymore.

The fact is, professionally, there is a reason put dates to deliverables: it makes people accoutnable, they work harder, and they're more likely to actually finish the task.

Leaving it out in the open, or even just leaving us players in the dark are two sides of the same coin: it allows the devs designers and producers way too much slack in NOT getting things done in terms of making us angry/sad/disappointed.

I think Turbine could use with a WHOLE LOT of accountability, and putting some dates on the next 2-5 updates (And expected features/fixes, barring unforeseen problems caused by new content which is Turbines specialty) would make a big difference in both goodwill, and also probably kicking your dev teams butt.

Dates and deliverables clearly communicated = greatest chance of completion. That's just the way the world works professionally.

And then the Devs set a date, like say Dec 16, and then they say "it got pushed back due to [some problem cropping up] so it won't be ready until Jan 1." And the players go "BUT YOU SAID DEC 16!!!!ONE!!!! HOW DARE YOU LIE TO ME! I'M GONNA STRING YOU UP BY YOUR TOES AND THROW CATS AT YOU!!!"

And that's how we got SOON(tm).

Like Wielder said, they learned their lesson about dates. Sometimes they relapse a little, like with MotU and the Enhancement Pass, but they usually remember that its not in their best interest to get overly specific.

It might make people work harder and finish the task, but if you are pushing them to hard the quality can easily tank. Plenty of examples of that in the world of games. Maybe they dont know exactly when the next MM will be out. After all, there was just a bit of a shake up behind the scenes. That causes priorities to shift, and things in development to get put on hold or reassigned.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.
