Default Please Help! Wireless Connectivity Issue.

OK to lay the ground work for this horse...

Out of town for 2 weeks working at a different plant for my job.

The Super 8 does not have a wall jack for a wired internet connection but does have WiFi.

I purchased a Belkin N750 DB/N900 DB, Dual Band Wi-Fi USB adaptor at the local Best Buy and can connect to the internet just fine.

I get to the the character selection screen and choose a character but "THE CONNECTION TO THE SERVER IS LOST"
window pops up after waiting 5 or so minutes for the character to login.

Window Firewall is set to allow dndclient through.

I use this PC at home just fine on a wired internet connection.

I have the same problem if I turn Windows Firewall completely off.

Can anyone help. I am REALLY GD FRUSTRATED that this HORSE problem is showing up. But I'm hoping this is just some stupid setting I need to change somewhere.

    Thanks.

Wild guess is that the hotel is filtering a certain packet type and that once you hit the signon button, the client and/or server is trying to send a packet type that won't hit the other end.

Another possibility is that they are blocking some ports that the client shifts to once signed in and thus the same result.

Certainty : ( I have the trace somewhere on my HD )
Once you select a character an UDP connection is ( supposedly ) established with the server ( along with the previous HTTP connection).

So if you loose the connection with the server selecting a character, it's because the UDP flows are filtered out by the router you're connecting to and the UDP connection between your PC and the server couldn't be initiated.

I had that happens to me too in a hotel... Game starts fine, you can login, you can select the character and then crash to desktop, connection to server lost.
Most hotel/Free Access Wifi filter out UDP as they want to keep bandwith for all their user, and that way they restrict easily the use of online games and a few other things ( torrents and such for example ). ( Note : UDP is not the only thing they filter out )

The ports used by DDO are pretty straightforward :

    Destination ports :

    http ( 80/TCP)
    https ( 443/TCP )
    port 9000 to port 9010/UDP
    port 2900/UDP
    port 7081 and 7082/TCP

Source ports : ( ports that the Turbine Servers uses, you shouldn't have to bother with them as the protocol uses TCP and UDP connections initiated by your computer, but it's always good to know them )

from 1041 to 1200 in TCP
from 1040 to 1200 in UDP
On G-Land : Flavilandile, Blacklock, Yaelle, Millishande, Larilandile, Gildalinde, Tenalafel, and many other...

    Default No Luck

Changed Http Proxy Setting From the Character Selection Screen->Options-> Troubleshooting to...

    Http Proxy: TCP
    Http Port: 80

    Https Proxy: TCP
    Https Port: 443

In Windows 7, Windows Firewall->Advanced Settings->Inbound Rules for dndclient, Turbine Invoker and Turbine Launcher both Public and Domain.

Used these values in every instance for TCP 7081, 7082 Local and 1041-1200 Remote

For every instance of UDP 2900, 9000-9010 Local and 1040-1200 Remote

Was this the right thing to do? If it was then it didn't work and something else must be blocked.

I think the problem is with the hotel's config, not yours. Hotels will sometimes implement blocking of ports for good or unknown reasons. I doubt the people working the desk at yours will know how their firewall is configured for guests but that's where I'd start.

Default As good a time for a break from DDO as any I suppose...

I really doubt the Super 8 has a fulltime IT person that can tell me.

Unless the older lady running the front desk is some kinda Network Savant
