Monster Manual Spider Hunting.

Purpose of this guide is to list all the unique spiders and where to find them for people interested in completing the spider section of the monster manual and acquiring a spider companion.

I will try to list each spider and where I found it.

3500 spiders killed and 60 spider types found appears to be all you need to unlock the Companion.

The Companion is a Forest Spiderling a brown version of the Spider included with Xpack preorders.



The fastest way to get spider kills is to do Arachnophobia in harbor. Its a level 1 quest and you get 31 spiders killed per completion, completion takes under a minute. Second fastest in Vale Of Twilight Rare spiders and the spiders near the rare about 40 kills a run but a little longer than arachnophobia and no guarantee of the rare. Chance for a chest though. I rotated between the 2 areas to keep from getting too bored.

32. Fiend Blood Spider Queen - Bugged Jukeree in Vale counts as this instead of the Subteraan rare.

Bugged Spiders

Redfang - Redfang the unruled Not counted toward score or as unique spider
Deluge - Ataraxia Lighthouse quest, Not counted as a unique named spider, instead all Phase Spiders count as Deluge
Venom - Redfang the unruled Not counted toward score or as unique spider
Jukree - Counted as Fiend SPider queen instead of unique spider
Fiend Spider Queen - Subteraan rare, Not counted instead Jukree took its spot.



Notes:
- All Quori Spiders like those found in I dream of Jeets, VON 2, and Dreaming Dark do not count as spiders.
- Guardian Statues in Portal Opens are not considered unique spiders but count as the spider they share their model with instead.

There may be some location mistakes, I'm going by memory, please post any corrections you see. And if you know a definite location of a spider other than listed please list it. If you know of any spiders I missed let me know and will add them.

Bloated flame eater (you have to do the spinners prison on heroic normal for this one, it does not spawn on epic from what I have seen)
clearfang: Cult of the six: The fane of the six
Dimmet: tomb of the shadow king
Frost spider: Aussircaex's Valley
Glass twilight spider: Vale of twilight
Hyaline matriarch: tomb of the forbidden
Pyrachnid: ring of fire

Forge is silly he says you missed 11 but he only listed 10 ^-^ (we have double entries for one spider)

Also Deluge does count as Unique, however the Phase Spider does not, and is instead counted as Deluge (I picked up Deluge first before phase spiders to verify this)

my first +1 added. may not even make use of this, but clearly you made a strong and selfless effort. server is currently down, but after restart i may try the arachnophobia quest, check the kill count and my time. if i find anything new worthwhile mentioning (such as finishing out is slower than running out through entrance) ill be sure to do so.

ALSO, i am wondering about that cr11 spider in tangleroot. yea, the longtime ddo players are all remembering that first encounter with that spider =) anyways, as far as anyone has attempted to, that spider is not killable. perhaps someone willing to waste some time trying?

confirmed: ran it under 1 minute earned 31 spider kills in total. also stopped to loot 2 collectibles and also wasted a few seconds to stop and decide if i will use cleave around the sarcophagi with a risk of failure- used cleave about 2 times, once knowingly breaking a sarcophagus. Also ran back out instead of finishing out, going to test FO in the next run. Also, going to use a throwing weapon that should insta-kill any spider, and kill a group on crit.

PS: did take a screenshot of xp log after completing first run. Since theres no upload method available here and photobucket is a waste of time, i wont be posting it. oh well, who cares really =)

Second run using the throwing was still under a minute but felt slower, because the spiders were immune to holy (go figure) but aoe did proc twice, killing spiders within a large enough vicinity to leave none left. FO i'd say was equally time consuming compared to running out through entrance. Also, I actually ended up breaking more sarcophagi (3) with the throwing wep. PS: i was using 30% striders the whole time, dont know if 10% barb run speed stacks, but if it does, assume i was running at hasted speed the whole time.
